Royal Wedding of the Century

thread

Sabi nga nila, modern day fairytales daw ito. Weird no?

Congratulations and Best Wishes kina Prince William at Princess Kate. Humayo kayo at magpakarami.. hahaha... "Great power needs great responsibility" gaya ng sinasabi ng marami.

Do not worry

thread

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?

Alaala ni Tiyo Roland...

thread
I joined Tiyo Nep and Tatay on their chat last Saturday, November 6, 2010 and I learned many unknown facts / things about the family but barber story was not out. They again told the story on how Tiyo Roland got the crater on his face. Here is the story:

Hahahaha...

Then I imagined Tiyo Lando doing these things. Grabe!!! I got teary eyes after laughing out loud. I know this story was not true but remembering this makes me smile, super talaga, to the maximum level ang tawa ko. I guess they just missed Tiyo Roland. Tatay and Tiyo Nep said that Tiyo Roland was their most kind sibling. He lived a good life, with his duty and with God.

Kuya Joel V. talked with me on FB and he also asked me about Tiyo Roland and I told him that he passed away almost 3 years ago. I do not know what was going on (bakit pinag-uusapan sya nitong mga nakaraang araw), but one thing is for sure, he was remembered and loved... I miss him...

GOOD FOR HALLOWEEN

thread

This was e-mailed to me.. worth reading talaga...

==========

This is a story from University of the Philippines (Diliman) about a young college girl who passed away last month. Her name was Marguax. She was hit by a dumper truck. She had a boy friend named Arnel. Both of them were true lovers. They always hung on the phone. You could never see her without her cell phone. In fact she also changed her phone from Smart to Globe, so both of them can be on the same network, and save on the cost and get good network coverage. She spent half of the day talking with Arnel. Maguax's family knew about their relationship. Arnel was very close with Marguax's family. (Just imagine their love).

Before she passed away she always told her friends "If I pass away please bury me with my hand phone" she also said the same thing to her parents. After her death, people couldn't carry her coffin, I was there. A lot of them tried to do so but still couldn't, everybody including me, had tried to carry the coffin, the result is still the same. Eventually, they called a Feng Shui Master. He took a stick and started speaking to himself slowly. After a few minutes, he said "this girl misses something here". Then her friends told the Master about her intentions to bury her with her phone. He then opened the coffin and places her phone and SIM card inside the casket. After that they tried to carry the coffin. It could be moved and they carried it into the van easily. All of us were shocked. Marguax's parents did not inform Arnel that Marguax had passed away.

After 2 weeks Arnel called Marguax's mom. Arnel:"I'm coming home today. Cook something nice for me.Dont tell Marguax that I'm coming home today, I wanna surprise her."Her mother replied..... "You come home first, I wanna tell you something very important. "after he came, they told him the truth about Marguax. Arnel thought that they were playing a fool. He was laughing and said "don't try to fool me - tell Marguax to come out, i have a gift for her Please stop this nonsense". Then they showed him her grave. He said... "It's not true. We spoke yesterday. She still calls me.

Arnel was shaking. Suddenly, his phone rang. "See this is from Marguax, see this..." he showed the phone to Marguax's family. All of them told him to answer. He talked using the loudspeaker mode. All of them heard his conversation. Loud and clear, no cross lines, no humming. It was the actual voice of Marguax & there was no way others could use her SIM card since it was nailed inside the coffin. They were so shocked and asked for the Feng Shuie Master's help again.

The Master brought his co-masters to solve this matter. He & his co-masters worked for 5 hours. Then they discovered one thing... Globe has the best coverage. Wherever you go, their network follows (hahaha)!!! Basta GLOBE, posible! Dahil ang lakas nyo sa GLOBE!

Halloween, not for true Christian

thread
Why are you celebrating Halloween? Do you know where Halloween came from? Are you celebrating Halloween each year? Are you Christian who celebrates Halloween? Here are some things to ponder about before you celebrate Halloween feast.

First, why many people are celebrating Halloween? What are their beliefs about this practice? Most people believe that:

1) The disembodied spirits of all those who had died would come back in search of living (bodies to possess)
2) The dead remained in limbo for a time after death, and that prayer, even by strangers, could expedite a soul's passage to heaven
3) It is just a harmless vestige of some ancient pagan ritual where folks get together for parties

These beliefs contradicts the teaching of the bible; that if the man dies, their spirits depart from their body and can do nothing under the sun.

"4When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;
on that very day their plans come to nothing."
Psalm 146:4 (New International Version)

That dead people cannot return or even visits their family

"9As a cloud vanishes and is gone, so he who goes down to the grave does not return. 10He will never come to his house again; his place will know him no more"
Job 7:9-10 (New International Version)

That we should not practice pagan doings, because all their sacrifices are for demons

"20No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons."
1 Corinthians 10:20 (New International Version)

These facts that I revealed is my way of saying that I care for you. I hope that this matter is clear to you. If you count yourself as a true Christian, then, you should stop celebrating Halloween from now on.

Attached is the History and Customs of Halloween as your reference:

~HALLOWEEN HISTORY AND CUSTOMS~

The word itself, "Halloween," actually has its origins in the Catholic Church. It comes from a contracted corruption of All Hallows Eve. November 1, "All Hollows Day" (or "All Saints Day"), is a Catholic day of observance in honor of saints. But, in the 5th century BC, in Celtic Ireland, summer officially ended on October 31. The holiday was called Samhain (sow-en), the Celtic New year.

One story says that, on that day, the disembodied spirits of all those who had died throughout the preceding year would come back in search of living bodies to possess for the next year. It was believed to be their only hope for the afterlife. The Celts believed all laws of space and time were suspended during this time, allowing the spirit world to intermingle with the living.

Naturally, the still-living did not want to be possessed. So on the night of October 31, villagers would extinguish the fires in their homes, to make them cold and undesirable. They would then dress up in all manner of ghoulish costumes and noisily parade around the neighborhood, being as destructive as possible in order to frighten away spirits looking for bodies to possess.

Probably a better explanation of why the Celts extinguished their fires was not to discourage spirit possession, but so that all the Celtic tribes could relight their fires from a common source, the Druidic fire that was kept burning in the Middle of Ireland, at Usinach.

Some accounts tell of how the Celts would burn someone at the stake who was thought to have already been possessed, as sort of a lesson to the spirits. Other accounts of Celtic history debunk these stories as myth.
The Romans adopted the Celtic practices as their own. But in the first century AD, Samhain was assimilated into celebrations of some of the other Roman traditions that took place in October, such as their day to honor Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruit and trees. The symbol of Pomona is the apple, which might explain the origin of our modern tradition of bobbing for apples on Halloween.

In Greek mythology, goddesses of the underworld were often used to invoke the Samhain. Popular Greek Goddess costumes portray Hecate and Medusa. Hecate was the most favored goddess by Zeus, and wandered the emptiness between the worlds of life and death looking for souls of the dead. Both were considered serpent goddesses, and their ancient dark legends spawned myths such as vampires, who fed off the living using venom and snake-like fangs. Ritualistic dress includes snake adornments and three headed masks. Today, Hecate is often referred to as the goddess of witches.

The thrust of the practices also changed over time to become more ritualized. As belief in spirit possession waned, the practice of dressing up like hobgoblins, ghosts, and witches took on a more ceremonial role.
The custom of Halloween was brought to America in the 1840's by Irish immigrants fleeing their country's potato famine. At that time, the favorite pranks in New England included tipping over outhouses and unhinging fence gates.

The custom of trick-or-treating is thought to have originated not with the Irish Celts, but with a ninth-century European custom called souling. On November 2, All Souls Day, early Christians would walk from village to village begging for "soul cakes," made out of square pieces of bread with currants. The more soul cakes the beggars would receive, the more prayers they would promise to say on behalf of the dead relatives of the donors. At the time, it was believed that the dead remained in limbo for a time after death, and that prayer, even by strangers, could expedite a soul's passage to heaven.

The Jack-o-lantern custom probably comes from Irish folklore. As the tale is told, a man named Jack, who was notorious as a drunkard and trickster, tricked Satan into climbing a tree. Jack then carved an image of a cross in the tree's trunk, trapping the devil up the tree. Jack made a deal with the devil that, if he would never tempt him again, he would promise to let him down the tree.

According to the folk tale, after Jack died, he was denied entrance to Heaven because of his evil ways, but he was also denied access to Hell because he had tricked the devil. Instead, the devil gave him a single ember to light his way through the frigid darkness. The ember was placed inside a hollowed-out turnip to keep it glowing longer.

The Irish used turnips as their "Jack's lanterns" originally. But when the immigrants came to America, they found that pumpkins were far more plentiful than turnips. So the Jack-O-Lantern in America was a hollowed-out pumpkin, lit with an ember.
