Hello, I'm Shinnosuke.

Hello, I'm Shinnosuke.
It's a beautiful sunny day even in the middle of October!

This is Shinnosuke Ata from Tokyo in Japan. I've been staying in Seattle so far for six months and worked since this September.
As an intern, I'm helping Japan America Society of the State of Washington staff and Japan Student Group hold some events.

The reason why I chose to work at JASSW is to have an interest in the business connection between Japan and the state of Washington; especially I am curious about why so many international large companies were born here. When I intern, I have some opportunities to meet people who I haven't met in my college. These experiences are really stimulating me.

Henry Art Gallery
The members of JAS gathered for the tour which was held at Henry Art Gallery last Thursday to explore the collection of photographs that were taken by the Japanese immigrants in the beginning of the 20th century. The collection of the works that were exhibited at the gallery is called the Shadows of a Fleeting World and these photographs were selected by the central members of the Seattle Camera Club which was founded in the year of 1924, starring Frank Kunishige and Iwao Matsushita. David F. Martin, the author of Shadows of a Fleeting World: Pictorial Photography and the Seattle Camera Club who devoted his career to research and write a book about the Japanese photographs gave a complementary tour around the gallery. His informative explanation to each of the photographs helped to understand the exchange between Eastern and Western artistic traditions expressed by the Japanese immigrants in the medium of photography. The photographs also illustrate the early decades of the twentieth century in Seattle. The event was a great opportunity for the JAS members to update their current status as well as taking pleasure from the exhibited art works.
