Bellevue, Washington
Kenichi Uchikura is the founder and CEO of Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. (PSPINC), a technology company based in the Seattle area. After graduating from Azusa Pacific University in 1983, he began his professional career in Japan before being assigned to establish his employer’s Seattle subsidiary. That international business experience laid the foundation for his entrepreneurial journey.
In 1987, Uchikura founded PSPINC, building the company into a long-standing provider of software development, web hosting, business communications, and SaaS solutions serving clients in both the United States and Japan. Originally known for Japanese software localization and cross-cultural technology services, PSPINC evolved alongside the growth of the Internet into a provider of digital infrastructure, custom web applications, and business communication platforms.
For nearly four decades, Uchikura has focused on helping organizations leverage technology to improve communication, strengthen customer relationships, and expand business opportunities. His work reflects a commitment to innovation, practical problem-solving, and fostering business connections between Japan and the United States.
PSPINC belongs to an organization called "Seattle Executives Association". This is the most valuable resource PSPINC has for everything from Payroll, HR, Asset Purchase, Building Maintenance, Electricians, plumbing, Car Leasing, Health Insurance, Flower Delivery, Funeral Service, Accounting, Auditing, Background Check, Telephone Equipment, Long Distance Voice, Dental Care, Optometrist, Eye Glasses, Coffee and Water service. I don't know what we would have done anything without this organization.
I bought shirts from Oregon. They are made in USA. It is so hard to find anything that is made in USA nowadays. Having Made in USA label alone is a good sales point ... at least for me that is.
Yesterday I wrote PSPINC is the eighth largest web developing company in the State of Washington. Sorry that was two years ago, we are 12th largest web development company in the State of Washington.
I received the first MSN Offer in my email box this morning. I don't know why I want this or why there is only 30% discount. I'r rather see restaurant discounts. Anyway, Microsoft had to start what others are doing ... very lame. Come on Microsoft, you can do better than this. You are the largest software developer in the world ... I'd like to see something more technical from you.
Yes, PSPINC design and develop web site. We are ranked 8th largest web development company in the State of Washington. But we do not stop there. We teach entrepreneurs how to develop and maintain web site for free.
City of Seattle is implementing the paid sick leave ordinance starting September 1, 2012. I personally think the city should not be regulation what business should do. But they do have nothing better to do than trying get more people to like then of that they get votes.
There are exceptions this ... If the company is unionized, you do not have to implement this rule. What is with that?
I wonder if this apples to professionals like football players ... They can take 6 paid sick leaves without penalty. Is that mean they can miss 6 home games out of 8? Oh, they are union house ... I forgot.
Bruce Johnson of Rowland Studio is the official photographer of Seattle Executives Association. He is the most dedicated profession I know anywhere. He is working (walking too) within 2 weeks of knee replacement surgery. He is a superman or he knows no pain.
Mayumi Nakamura, President of PSPINC, will be doing the classification talk at the Seattle Executives Association luncheon today. Seattle Executives Association is 95 year old premiere business to business networking organization with over 100 members meeting every Wednesday. PSPINC has been a member since 2003.
There are many web sites that has lots and lots of information. Some web sites have hundreds of pages that owner think it is important for their customer to know.
I am sorry to tell you, you can not be more wrong. If you need to give information to a customer, instead of making it on the web site, create a link for people to download eBook and PDF files. People will not spend hours reading your web site.
Besides, having too much information makes your web site very cluttered and complicated. You do want your audience to get the message as quickly and easily as possible. That will make it easier for the search site to rate you as well.
This email is not from American Express. This email is sent to get my information. From time to time, you receive email like this one. Do not click on them.
You must take a look at where email came from first. If it is not the domain name you trust, through it away. Also, if you click them and it open a browser, take a look at the domain name.
It is called phishing and you may receive this type of email from not only financial institutions, but hosting companies, shipping companies, logistics companies and government agencies like IRS. Be very careful.
Emailing photos few years ago was easy. Just attached the photos that you can't to send to the email and click send. But now, it is not that easy. For instance, I took this picture with Canon SLR and the original file size of this image is over 6MB. Imagine sending 10 of those pictures ... you cannot not do that with a regular email. You need a special program design to send large files.
Nowadays, files created by digital cameras are so large, you cannot send them by standard email. PSPINC provides service that enables you to send large files. The service is called MegaMail ... http://sendmegamail.com/
Microsoft Office Live is ending at the end of this month and all are asked to migrate to Microsoft Office 365. We are working this Saturday to migrate one customer from Microsoft Office Live to our email hosting service. This customer decided they do not need Microsoft Office 365. Unfortunate for Microsoft, this is not the only customer indicated to leave Microsoft.
It is unbelievable for us to shut down the service that has many customers. But then again, Microsoft Office Live or 365 are not Microsoft's main focus. They should keep Microsoft Office Live and slowly migrate them to Microsoft Office 365.
We have not seen any email delay for a week now. We were able to reduce CPU usage by 70% by tuning up software thus making mail processing faster. The graph above shows the CPU usage for 24 hours (4/18 3:36 pm – 4/19 3:33 pm).
Legend: Red line: number of access user
Black line: Database CPU usage
Green line: IMAP/POP Mail Server CPU Usage
Pink line: Machine CPU Usage
You can see the server is running much more stable when it comes to CPU usage. We are still working to make processes even faster.
PSPINC will hold its annual golf tournament at Aldarra Gold club this year. This is the very first time this exclusive private golf club is hosting outside golf tournament. It is an invitational event and will be held on August 20, this year.
I was dog sitting one more dog than usual last night. Everybody went to Japan-America Society annual dinner. He is a less than one year old dachshund named MALO.
It is amazing how many Apple products I have. Here you see iPhone, iPod 30GB, iPod Touch, iPad and Apple TV. In addition I have MacBook Pro and MacPro desktop.
Seattle is not a place to live if you have to travel to Japan. This is a comparison of the wire fairs that I may face when I fly business class to japan. My trip starts with Seattle to Tokyo, then I travel to Osaka, from there I fly back to Seattle. On business class, you can buy those two legs for $4800 in Seattle. If I were living in LA and to do the same trip from LA, I would be paying $3600. Whopping $1200 less.
Our toll free number is 1-800-232-3989 and this is where it came from.
When we started Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. back in 1987, we were located in Mercer Island, Washington. The area code was 206 but the prefix for Mercer Island (I do not know now) was 232. The first phone number Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. got was 206-232-3989.
So when we got the 800 number, we made it a same number. So, that is where our 800 number came from. This is a picture of our lobby area. We have collection of computers starting from Apple IIe.
Pacific Software Publishing CA LLC is located in this building complex across a street from Miyako Hotel. It is very convenient. It is not too far away from Toyota and Honda HQs.
Honda America Corporate HQ is located near Pacific Software Publishing CA LLC in Torrance, California. I took this picture from my room at Miyako Hotel in Torrance.
We have deployed a new module for email server software at 2:30am. This module streamline the database access processes to require less CPU time. This graph above shows the CPU usage before and after the deployment. It seems we are able to mitigate the CPU usage problem by fine-tuning the database access module.
red = number of concurrent users
black = database CPU usage
green = email server CPU usage
pink = machine CPU usage
Even with this improvement, we are continuing to farther improving our mail service. We do not see any email delay this morning. We will let you know as soon as we see any problem. Thank you for supporting PSPINC.
We have worked 'til 4:00am this morning and released the updated version of email server software. We have replaced what we believe to be the major cause of overloading problem. This may fix the email delay problem, but we will not stop upgrading our system until we are 100% sure. That means unless we can handle many times the email traffic that we can reasonably expect, we will keep upgrading our software.
I had let all engineers go home little after 4:00am but they told me they are coming back by 8:00am to make sure there will be no delay.8:00am is when the delay problem started yesterday. At the mean time, server administration team are preparing extra email server to split the current load in half. We are doing everything we can to mitigate email delay.
Thank you for sticking with us. We will not let our customer down. Thank you for choosing PSPINC.
The IMAP/POP server we released had serious processing speed problem that we did not expect. Our customers sometime experience 30+ minuets email delay. Needless to say, it is not acceptable.
So we are doing three things. One, we are going over the source code of the email software line by line to speed up the processes. We will rewrite everything if we need to. No weekend for our engineers. Two, we are building extra server to reduce the current server loads. Three we are having extra monitoring person to watch over the server 24 hours a day.
No matter what it takes, we will get this solved for all our customers. So, please bear with us.
I believe in the balance of power. I do not mind President Obama elected as the President again in November so long as there is Republican Majority in the house and senate. I believe President Clinton did a good job second term when he was facing Republican Majority in the house and senate.
So, am I a Democrat or Republican. The answer is I am neither and I am both. Let's balance the budget first. I do not want to be on the sinking ship. I heard (although I can not confirm it is true or not) the US has bigger debt (15.6 Trillion Dollars) than all the failing European nations combined.
I am going to San Diego today. No, it is not golf. I have a meeting in SD tomorrow. But, tonight I will be meeting my aunt who lives in SD. I have not seen her for two years.
One note. I will travel with just an iPad, no PC. Let's see how I can do it.
The temperature went over 70 degree today. It was wonderful. I play a round at Aldarra and 44/45. I putted very good today. Everything esevwas not that good.
Over $43,500. One I saw at the Chevy dealer had >$50k sticker price.
Even with possible $7500 Federal Tax Credit, the car is more expensive than NISSAN LEAF (100% Electric) or any of PRIUS Hybrids or Civic Hybrids.
The car is not that big and you can go 100% EV for only short distance. This car missed the mark by a mile. If the car is around $25K, it may make sense and I would consider one for PSPINC.
Yesterday, I talked about Pornography in Japan and said what you see is not what the reality is in Japan. In Japan, there is a saying that there are “HONNE” and “TATEMAE” in everything.
HONNE is the TRUTH
TATEMAE is the PERCEPTION or the way you want people to think
So, as far as Pornography in Japan is concerned, Japan has one of the most conservative restriction against it. But the truth is, it is everywhere. I have seen school kids walking in front of the movie theater that has many posters with sexual contents.
You see Japanese tourism advertisements that show Japanese people in Kimono, Temples and Shrines, Traditional Tea Houses and music. Those are the perception that Japan wants to portrait to visitors. But is that what Japan is? That probably represents less than 1% of Japanese people. When I visit there, I rarely see people in Japanese kimono. I will do a double take if I see any male wearing kimono in Japan.
Because of this TRUTH vs PERCEPTION, many Japanese people are very suspicious of things that seem to be too good. Many times, Japanese people believe the bad news and ignore good because they think good news are fabricated. Japanese people (companies too) rarely brag about anything. Because it may rebound negatively.
On the other hand, Japanese do not treat negative publicity seriously. They believe those negativities will go away if you do not react. You can see this in slow reaction to negative publicity by companies like Toyota, Bridgestone and the Tokyo Electric Company that operates failed nuclear power plants.
As the world gets smaller and smaller by the flow of information, companies and people in Japan need to learn how to respond to the publicities whether it is positive or negative.
Here is a subject not many people talk about. Also looking at Internet, people do not believe there is any kind of regulation in Japan for making and distributing pornography in Japan.
What you see on Internet is quite different from what is legal in Japan. Any uncensored pornography you see on Internet (whether it is made in Japan or not) is illegal in Japan. Payboy magazines are illegal in Japan.
But there is no Internet censoring in Japan. You are not allowed to sell uncensored pornography in Japan, but you can see as much as you want on Internet.
There are many regulations like that in Japan. For instance, gambling is illegal in Japan, but look at all the Pachinko Parlors. Prostitution is illegal in Japan, but when you walk Shinjyuku Kabukicho at night, you will never guess that.
Back to talk about Internet. One of the biggest reason why high speed Internet became popular in Japan is the fact that you watch uncensored pornography. I guess SEX SELLS is true here as well.
Toward the end of last week, we were experiencing some email delays in our system. This was caused by two main reasons. The first is that we have moved all clients to the new mail servers, causing the new server load to peak higher than we had expected. The other is that, in order to process more email, we modified the email preprocessing system which handles SPAM filtering, email forwarding, auto reply, and mailing lists to be faster, thus delivering more email than the email servers could handle.
From last Friday, we have been rewriting our software to improve mail processing performance. Because of the changes we made, we have not seen any delays since last weekend. We have been working to make our email servers process more email all this week as well, and we estimate that over the past week our email servers have become three times faster. Although we should have done this earlier, I am happy to announce that we no longer detecting any email slowdowns.
We were able to solve the email delay problem by rewriting the software itself. That is something other hosting companies, who do not have an in-house software development team like ours, cannot do. We are constantly making our software faster, more efficient, and more reliable. If you have any questions or concerns about our email hosting, please feel free to contact us.

How difficult is it to create hydrogen fuel cells?
It sounds like much cleaner and safer than nuclear power.
Wouldn't it be great if every city block has a hydrogen fuel cell power generator.
If submarine can be fitted with hydrogen fuel cells instead go nuclear, it would make more sense to replace big, unsafe and costly nuclear power plants with hydrogen fuel cells.
I just paid supposed to be the last tuition to UW for my daughter. I am happy to say that I was able to do what my mother did for me 30 years ago to my daughter today. One of my job was a parent is done.
Here is the june air fare comparison between two cities serving to Narita, Japan. As you can can see, the fare from Los Angels to Narita (Tokyo) are almost 1/2 of Seattle to Tokyo.
Here are few facts to consider:
(1) L.A. to Tokyo is about 1,000 miles more than Seattle to Tokyo.
(2) Airlines uses better, bigger, newer air planes for L.A. to Tokyo route.
(3) L.A. Airport is much faster to check in and out than Seattle although it is much bigger.
(4) Many people are flying to L.A. to goto Tokyo because it is cheaper.
Seattle and Portland are not very international flight friendly.
We just released the new Bloguru App for iPhone and iPad. This upgrade enables you to upload picture up to 2MB in size.
Bloguru is an advertisement free blog platform developed and hosted by Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. If you wish to start advertisement free blog for your company, please fill the membership request form at flooding URL.
One of our clients web site is now listed on the top page of Google when you search "Seattle Pest Control". I am very happy to see it there. This company is very active on Bloguru too.
I am at Park Place Auto Salon in Bellevue getting my car washed. This could be my first car wash of this year. I hope it will not rain for a while. But I washed my car, it will rain soon.
I learned Goodwill has an online sales operation. I am very impressed about this. I always thought Goodwill has very old and traditional operations but I was wrong. Does your business have online sales operations?
This is a very nice art piece near Eastgate Park and Ride ... When they build the ramp for carpool and buses, those sculptures are added. Considering the tax money they are waisting, are they really necessary?
