Paratex fumigates many different things

thread
Paratex fumigates many differe... Paratex fumigates many differe...
Paratex has the only public vacuum fumigation vault in the Pacific Northwest. We are sometimes surprised by the items brought in for fumigation. A certificate of fumigation for the casket is required for import into Taiwan. Additionally, a representative from the Washington State Department of Agriculture will come to make an inspection. There are no bugs in the casket. It is a matter of meeting some foreign government requirement. On the other hand, household goods wait in the Paratex warehouse for fumigation. There are bedbugs in the household goods.

Vini, vidi, vici, you stupid bug!

Vini, vidi, vici, you stupid bug!
In order to train pest control service technicians we try to take a page from history. It seems around 47 BC a pregnant Cleopatra kicked old Julius Caesar out of bed and told him to get out of the house. He was so mad he went over to Turkey and beat up the residents of the town of Zela in about 4 hours (so he claimed). He wanted to brag about his feat to the Roman Senate, but email wasn't yet invented, so he had to scribble something on an old papyrus leaf and pin it to the armor of one of his soldiers and make him run all the way home. Thus came the famous three word quotation. So, we tell our new technicians to follow the example of Caesar - just go find some bugs and send us back a written message. The usual message is much like Caesar's - I came, I saw, I kicked ants.

Paratex eliminates ubiqutious cockroach

thread
Paratex eliminates ubiqutious c...
Roaches are found everywhere throughout the world. They have survived from ancient times by being able to feed on almost anything and to tolerate extreme heat and cold. You can bring them into your home on groceries or almost anything from a location that has them. There are different types. The ones found outside in many warm climates are not common here. The smaller German roach is found where it is wet and warm. They particularly like kitchens. Apartments are a problem because tenants spray an aerosol which kills some but spreads others to other units. They can spread disease and they are becoming more and more associated with asthma in children.

Rodents eat new car wiring

thread
Rodents eat new car wiring Rodents eat new car wiring Rodents eat new car wiring
One of the products of the environmental movement has been soy-based wiring insulation in cars. This is great for the environment (maybe thank Al Gore), but, it is very attractive to rodents (maybe thank Al Gore). It is also reported that soy based plastics are cheaper than petroleum based plastics. Wow, save money and save the environment and replace chewed wires now and then. Who would have thought that rodents love soy.

Paratex treats rare "drywood termites"

thread
Paratex treats rare "drywood ... Paratex treats rare "drywood ...
The Pacific Northwest has two kinds of termites that are common - Dampwood Termites and Subterranean. Dampwoods are not a problem unless you have wood touching the wet ground or the wood is wet to the point of rotting. The swarming reproduction ones are commonly seen beginning this time of year as brown/orange "flying ants" fluttering about. The subterranean termite is the common variety found across the US that has it's nest in the ground and makes wood shelter tubes up above ground to feed on wood. We only find them in pockets in our area and many areas have none at all.

Drywood termites do not need the moisture content and can fly into attic areas and other spaces where the wood is relatively dry. This is the termite that causes houses to be covered with nylon tarps and fumigated in some southern states. As you can see by the picture they are not found in the Pacific Northwest. There is an exception, however, when a wooden boat or a motor home as been in an area where they are common and then brought into the Pacific Northwest. That's is when Paratex is called for a fumigation. Large boats can be tricky to do - but, we like the challenge.

Paratex fumigates crates for export

thread
Paratex fumigates crates for e... Paratex fumigates crates for e...
Most countries now require a stamp on a wooden crate and a certificate of fumigation if the wood is not heat-treated before allowing it to enter. This is to prevent wood-destroying insects. Paratex is one of a very few companies in the Pacific Northwest with the credentials to do this and the only company with a vacuum fumigation fault. The crate in pictures is being loaded into our vault and contains machinery going to Saudi Arabia.

Even UHaul has a spider

thread
Even UHaul has a spider
Everyone seems to have spiders around their home and business this time of year - especially if you are near the water and around lots of trees and shrubs. Spiders aren't usually a threat (unless you're one of the 5% or so with a phobia about them - or you are bitten by one that is especially toxic). Trimming back shrubs against the building and brushing down the webs with a broom will help. Of course, if you want professional help call Paratex.
