Inside Ezell’s Success: Key Takeaways from Last Week’s PSPINC and JAS-NET Networking Event

thread
Inside Ezell’s ...
Last week, PSPINC partnered with JAS-NET (Japan-America Networking) to host a special networking and educational event, featuring two leaders from Ezell’s Famous Chicken, one of the PNW’s most recognizable brands and a long-time PSPINC customer.

Featuring presentations from Lewis Rudd, the President, CEO, and Founder, and Rajah Anderson, the Marketing Director, from Ezell’s Famous Chicken, attendees gained insights on how a focus on a strong marketing strategy, community involvement, and a long-term vision drove the company’s overall growth.

What Sets Ezell’s Apart

lewis rudd from ezell's presenting at pspinc and jas-net's event

During the presentation, Lewis discussed how Ezell’s Famous Chicken stays true to the values: honesty, loyalty, and relationships. That ultimately helped build its reputation and loyal customer base throughout the PNW and beyond while emphasizing the importance of differentiating the brand in a competitive marketplace by telling authentic stories and taking unique opportunities to stand out.

Ezell’s drives customer loyalty while maintaining a strong brand presence by highlighting its key differentiators, which include:
  • Fresh, never-frozen chicken
  • Larger portions and quality ingredients
  • 100% breast meat chicken strips
  • No preservatives or additives
  • Cooking with 100% vegetable oil
  • Consistent product quality that keeps customers coming back
“We have a fighter mentality,” Rudd shared, highlighting the company’s approach to growth and innovation.

Marketing With Purpose

rajah anderson from ezell's presenting at the pspinc and jas-net event

Beyond providing their customers with delicious food, Ezell’s stays committed to giving back to the community. Just over the past year, they’ve provided $95,000 in food and financial support to community organizations through the company’s marketing fund and various community donation initiatives.

Ezell’s current marketing strategy, as Rajah Anderson presented on, consists of focusing on three specific areas:
  1. Differentiation
  2. Creating reasons for customers to return
  3. Strengthening owned marketing channels
The overall discussion reinforced the importance of building trust, maintaining consistent communication, and developing lasting relationships with customers.

Join Us for a Future Event

presenters and attendees at pspinc and jas-net networking event

We'd like to thank Lewis Rudd and Rajah Anderson from Ezell's, JAS-NET, and everyone who attended for making this event a success.

Designed to help small businesses grow, connect, and succeed, we regularly hosts educational and networking events for both our local Greater Seattle customers and our local San Diego customers. WordPress 7.0 Has Arrived: Is Your Website Ready?

thread
WordPress 7.0 Has Arrived: Is ...
WordPress recently released WordPress 7.0, the biggest WordPress update in recent years, which introduces a strong emphasis on integrating AI into its dashboard and admin experiences.

While these updates can improve your website experience, major WordPress releases also require careful attention. Updating your site without proper testing can lead to broken features, plugin conflicts, or downtime, especially for business sites that rely on forms, e-commerce tools, scheduling systems, or custom functions.

The Biggest Changes in WordPress 7.0

With a focus on making websites easier to manage and customize, some of the biggest WordPress 7.0 enhancements include:
  • New AI-powered tools and integrations
  • Cleaner, more modern dashboard
  • Easier design and layout customization
  • Improved mobile editing controls
  • Better font and visual editing options
While these will help improve website management, they can also affect how your existing plugins, themes, and custom features work together.

Why You Shouldn’t Update Your Website Automatically

Major WordPress updates don’t usually install automatically, and there’s a reason for that: Every WordPress website is built differently. With custom themes, specialized plugins, or third-party tools, you need to test them before a large update goes live.

Automatically deploying a major update could:
  • Break parts of your website
  • Cause plugin conflicts
  • Interrupt online forms or e-commerce tools
  • Create unexpected downtime
  • Affect your website’s appearance or functionality
While WordPress offers an automatic update option, it isn’t the safest choice. Especially for a business that relies on its website for e-commerce sales and more.

Thinking of Updating Yourself? Get Ready for the Heavy Lifting

If you plan to tackle the WordPress 7.0 update yourself, you can’t just click a button and hope for the best. Instead, you need to execute a rigorous, multi-step technical protocol. Otherwise, you risk a total site collapse.
  • Back Up Everything Manually
    • Secure a complete system backup before even touching the update, which includes your entire database, core files, media library, and plugins.
    • If the update fails midway, this backup is your only lifeline to restore your offline site.
  • Build and Configure a Staging Environment
    • Replicate an isolated and exact clone of your website (a staging site), configure the server environments to match, and run the updates there first to see what breaks behind the scenes.
  • Execute Micro-Updates
    • Update your plugins one by one instead of trying to update everything at once. That way, you ensure you isolate the exact culprit rather than combing through every feature and plugin, which could take hours to find and fix.
  • Test Separately
    • Manually test your site’s forms, checkouts, and pages after every single click to avoid hours of troubleshooting and digging through error logs to fix what feature of the update is breaking your site.

Protect Your Website With Professional Website Maintenance

Don’t wait for a broken website to discover your WordPress website installation needs attention. At PSPINC, our team has the expertise and experience to help your business safely manage WordPress updates, maintenance, backups, security monitoring, and ongoing website support.

Routine maintenance helps keep your website:
      • Secure
      • Fast
      • Compatible with updates
      • Running smoothly for your customers
WordPress 7.0 is a great reminder to stay proactive with website updates. Instead of risking downtime or compatibility issues, work with our experts. They’ll test updates properly and keep your website performing at its best. Contact our experts at PSPINC today to get help updating and maintaining your WordPress website with confidence.

Employee Spotlight: Meet Hiiro

thread
Employee Spotlight: Meet Hiiro
We pride ourselves on our fantastic sales team and have an amazing and supportive staff. In this series, we will highlight and showcase a number of those friendly faces who are standing by to take your call or email, help with your IT problems, and assist with your online solutions. This time, we’re shining a spotlight on our sales team member, Hiiro Matsuoka.

Meet Hiiro

Hiiro is one of the newest members of our Sales team in our local Bellevue office! We sat down with Hiiro to get to know her better.

What do you do at PSPINC?

I'm part of the sales team at PSPINC.

What does a typical day on the job look like for you?

A typical day for me runs from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. During the day, I meet with clients to understand their needs and then plan and suggest seminars or networking events that would best support their goals.

How did you first learn about PSPINC? What drew you to the position?

I first learned about PSPINC through a friend and later found the company again while searching for an opportunity where I could combine my interests in business and technology.

How long have you been working at PSPINC?

Six and a half months.

What’s your favorite part about working here?

My favorite part about working here is that employees can bring their dogs to the office, which creates a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. I also appreciate that the office has a welcoming environment that makes it easy for clients to visit.

What’s the most challenging part of your job?

The most challenging part of my job is that, as it is my first professional role, I’m still learning what to prioritize and how to approach different tasks. However, I see this as a valuable opportunity, and every day is a new challenge that helps me grow.

Before working for PSPINC, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

Before working for PSPINC, the most interesting job I’ve had was a recruiting internship in Tokyo with a UK-based company. Even though it was in Japan, I worked with people who had very different perspectives, and I really enjoyed collaborating with the team and learning from those diverse viewpoints.

What have you learned about sales/marketing since working here?

Since working here, I’ve learned that even when I think I know what a client needs, it’s important to ask and listen carefully. Clients’ actual needs can be very different from what I expect, and understanding that has helped me improve how I communicate and offer solutions.

In your experience, what is the most important part of building a long-term relationship with a client?

Always listening carefully and understanding what they actually need.

What kinds of skills do you think a salesperson needs to succeed?

I think a successful salesperson needs to take action without hesitation and be proactive. It’s also important to always keep the client’s perspective in mind and think carefully about what they truly need.

What is one piece of advice you often give businesses looking to improve their online presence?

Clearly define their target audience and think about what kind of content or design will attract them.

What is your proudest moment at PSPINC?

When I heard that people who attended a networking event I organized were able to make valuable business connections.

What does “success” look like to you when working with a new partner?

To me, success when working with a new partner means continuously communicating and aligning expectations, so that together we can create a business that effectively solves the client’s problems.

What do you like to do for fun?

Traveling, skiing, and exploring cafés.

What is your favorite movie?

Wonder.

What is your favorite food?

Spicy food (Especially Korean Sundubu-jjigae).

Where would you like to go on your ideal vacation?

Thailand or Okinawa.

We hope you enjoyed getting to know Hiiro today! If you’re a business in the Greater Seattle area, don’t hesitate to email Hiiro at hiiro.matsuoka@pspinc.com. She and her team are the experts dedicated to helping you!

Do you like what you've heard about PSPINC? Check our open positions. We are always looking for talented individuals looking to fast-track their career in technology!

How to Update Your WordPress Site & Why It Matters

thread
How to Update Your WordPress S...
One of the most common mistakes we’ve seen small business owners make is thinking a website launch is the finish line. With how fast technology evolves, your site needs regular upkeep to stay secure, fast, and reliable. Without maintenance, you risk significant downtime, security issues, and costly fixes later.

The good news is you don’t have to manage it alone.

Why WordPress Maintenance Isn’t Optional

Along with the rest of the internet, WordPress evolves constantly. Throughout the year, WordPress releases new core updates, plugin patches, and theme improvements, all at unpredictable times. If you don’t stay up to date, your site suddenly becomes vulnerable.

Take control of your site with a simple mindset: update consistently, monitor performance, and fix problems before they escalate.

What Happens When You Keep Your Website Up to Date

When you actively maintain your WordPress site, you:
  • Protect your business from security threats: Divert potential attacks by closing the gap that outdated plugins and themes create.
  • Avoid downtime and emergency fixes: Run proactive maintenance to keep your site live and your customers engaged.
  • Improve performance and user experience: Maintain top speed and functionality to drive conversions.
  • Keep your business moving forward: Support your business growth with an updated website, instead of slowing it down.

How to Identify Trustworthy Plugins

Updating your WordPress site yourself requires a careful process to ensure nothing goes wrong. One of the easiest ways to update your WordPress site is with plugins, but with so many available, ensure you use reputable plugins to minimize potential security risks and maintain performance stability:
  • When was it last updated? Avoid plugins that haven’t been updated in over six to 12 months. Regular updates indicate the developer is actively patching security vulnerabilities.
  • How many users have installed this plugin? Find plugins with high installation counts (100k+), signaling it’s a robust, vetted, and widely supported tool.
  • Is it highly rated? Seek out plugins with multiple high ratings, giving them more credibility.
  • Are the developers replying to issues? Check the Support tab and dodge those with a silent support forum.

How to Perform WordPress Updates Yourself

Updating your WordPress site yourself requires a careful process to ensure nothing goes wrong. Before you hit that update button, follow these essential steps to keep your site secure and functional:
  1. Log in to your WordPress admin account: yourdomain.com/wp-admin.
  2. Take a backup of your site: Create a site backup in case the updates affect your site’s functionality. That way, you can revert the changes if something breaks.
  • With a backup plugin: Add and activate a reputable plugin like UpdraftPlus or All-in-One WP Migration to create a backup of your site, and remember to include both your files (themes, plugins, and media) and your database (posts, pages, and settings).
  • Using your web host: Follow the prompts available in your web host’s automated backup tools.
  • Manual backup: Use an FTP client and log in to phpMyAdmin from your hosting panel to connect to your server, download all files from the root directory, and export the .sql file directly to your computer.
  • Do a visual check after deployment: Review the site for any obvious signs of a potential problem.
  • Confirm everything works properly: Beyond looks, make sure your site’s features work as expected.

Why Our WordPress Maintenance Works Better

While you could handle updates yourself, website maintenance can easily become tricky. Why? Because updates regularly contradict each other. Just one plugin update could break a feature, crash a page, or affect your design.

With our help, remove that risk entirely:
  • Test updates before going live: We apply updates on a test version of your site first. If anything breaks, we fix it before touching your live website.
  • Prevent disruptions to your business: We ensure your site pages don’t break and there are no surprises, resulting in no lost revenue.
  • Save time and stress: We handle the technical upkeep so your team can focus on running your business.
Maintenance is about more than just protection; it’s a chance to improve your site over time. With every update, you earn the opportunity to:
  • Refresh content
  • Improve design
  • Add new features
  • Optimize for conversions

A Smarter Approach to Maintenance

While WordPress updates can be unpredictable, we still recommend reviewing and updating your WordPress site at least twice a year. Along with those updates, we:
  • Audit your current WordPress version
  • Identify outdated plugins, themes, and core files
  • Test updates in a safe environment
  • Apply changes to your live site only after confirming stability

Don’t Wait For Something to Break

While missing one update doesn’t seem like a big deal, one outdated plugin can easily compound over time. It can even shut down your entire site. Stay ahead of it by investing in regular website maintenance services

Not sure how updated your site is? That’s the perfect place to start. Contact our expert team today for a quick check to save you a major headache tomorrow. With regular WordPress maintenance, keep your website secure, stable, and ready to grow with your business.
