Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Los Angeles

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Lo...
Many people believe Cinco De Mayo is the celebration of Mexico’s independence day, but in fact, it’s not. You have to wait till September 16th for that. Cinco de Mayo celebrates the Mexican army’s victorious battle over Napoleon III and his French army at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. For most people in the States, of Mexican heritage or not, we’ve adopted this date as a day to celebrate Mexican culture, particularly with food!

So, since we love to celebrate diversity at Sakura Rent A Car at LAX , we want to share with you a guacamole recipe sure to impress any dinner guests. This stuff doesn’t last long, so be prepared with lots of tortilla chips.

Chunky Salsa Guacamole

3 Avocados, ripe, mashed somewhat
1/4 - 1/2 cup Pico de Gallo or Chunky Salsa (your favorite)
Nice fat sprig cilantro, chopped
1 T. Lime juice
1/4 Onion, chopped
1 Clove Garlic, minced
Salt and pepper to taste

Simply mix all the ingredients, put out the chips and stand back. It’s very simple and sure to be a hit at any Cinco celebration you’re attending. If you’d rather keep the cooking to someone else, here are a few other things to consider for the day…

Have you seen the Descanso Gardens yet? 150 acres of botanical beauty located in La Cañada Flintridge, Los Angeles County. If you haven’t been there, this is your opportunity. Get in your LAX rental car from Sakura and drive over to partake in a Cinco de Mayo celebration hosted by the Patina Restaurant Group inside the garden itself. It’s a true fiesta with a full Mexican buffet, mariachi band and dancers. It takes place on the main lawn and kids are welcome. Homemade tamales and a taco station are just a couple of the amazing entrees included. Register here:

If you’d like less of an event and simply a place to eat out, a few notable area restaurants include La Velvet Margarita Cantina known for its gothic décor and outdoor bar. El Compadre Restaurant on Sunset Boulevard is sure to be busy with its casual, comfortable and colorful environment. El Carmen serves up large drinks and plates in a unique setting.

And honestly, just keep driving your Sakura Rental Car around the LAX area long enough and you’re bound to find a gem of a restaurant or food truck serving up delicious Mexican food. Happy Cinco de Mayo!
