Joan Hill

Joan Hill (nee Arndt) of Lynnwood, WA passed away on July 31, 2019 after a lengthy illness. Her close friend Theresa Daverio assisted Joan throughout her illness and was with her the day she passed away. Joan was born in Grand Rapids, MN in 1951 to Herbert and Bess Arndt, before moving to Seattle with them in 1964. Although she had become a Seattle resident at heart, Joan spent several years in Alaska after her marriage to Mr. Henry Hill, then of Palmer, Alaska, and has maintained a close relationship with him and his family since her return to the Seattle area. Joan was an academically gifted woman who earned a nursing degree and practiced as an RN in several disciplines for many years before returning to school to earn a post-graduate degree as a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine.

Joan was also a talented artist and musician, who painted nature scenes and carved wildlife sculptures from soapstone during her time in Alaska. She also sang and played several instruments, performing at local folk music gatherings after her return to Seattle. For several years she led a communal living home in Seattle’s Green Lake area, and her homes always included one or two of her beloved cats, who were as devoted to her as she was to them.

Joan was predeceased by her parents, her younger brother Curtis Arndt of Los Angeles, CA, and her older brother Dennis Arndt of Sauk Rapids, MN. She is survived by her older brother Leon Arndt of Apollo Beach, FL, niece Meghan Wiebe and nephew Jesse Arndt, both of Sauk Rapids, MN, nephews Michael Arndt of Victoria, TX, Jeffrey Arndt of Pineland, TX, and William Arndt of Minneapolis, MN, and niece Denise Brasher of Indian Springs Village, AL, and their respective families.

A private informal memorial gathering of family and close friends will be held in the near future in the Seattle area.
