気がつけば、なでしこ道特訓の日がまたもや来ていました。
この日娘は日ごろから熱心に指導してくださっている師匠に日本語での感謝状を渡しました。曰く、
「これからもなでしこへの道を精進して行きます」
この言葉に違わず、熱心な生徒と師匠との切磋琢磨する稽古が始まりました。
この日は高校生になったばかりの新人も来ていて、入門2ヶ月にしかならない娘が既に先輩の立場に。
張りつめた緊張の1時間の稽古は瞬く間に過ぎて行きます。
この日師匠のメリー先生は朝9時から午後4時まで6コマの授業を1人で教えられます。ランチ休憩も取らずに70歳を遥かに超える方が、どこからかのような精力的なパワーを得ているのでしょうか。彼女こそ西洋文化にも通じながら、なでしこ道を極めた国宝的な存在です。
娘らがこうしてなでしこ道へ精進している時、私はそれを眺めているだけでいいのだろうか。
そんなことを考えながら帰宅後、湖畔立った時でした。
その時娘もその場に居合わせたのですが、例の魔女の笛を持っていなかったのです。
おお、危ない、危ない。
もしあの笛を吹かれていたら魔術に取り付かれるまま、体は動き出し、踊りだし、湖へ突き落とされていたことでしょう。
そうしたら覚醒しアドレナリンが放出してしまい、その後の昼寝は実現しなかったはずです。
日本の東北に住む友人方は日曜日の礼拝を前にして、皆さん雪かきに精を出していらっしゃるとの事。ご苦労様でございます。
こちらではストレスフリーの、ゆっくりまったりした時間を楽しませていただいています。
I realized that the day of Nadeshiko-do special training had come again today.
On this day, my daughter gave a letter of appreciation in Japanese to her teacher who has been teaching her diligently. She said,
I will continue to devote myself to becoming a Nadeshiko.
True to these words, the friendly competition between the enthusiastic students and the master began.
On this day, there was a newcomer who had just entered high school, and my daughter, who had only been in the class for two months, was already in the position of a senior.
The tense hour-long practice went by in the blink of an eye.
On this day, Mary-sensei, the master, taught six classes from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. by herself. I wondered where she got such energetic power for someone who is well over 70 years old without taking a lunch break. She is a national treasure who has mastered the way of Nadeshiko, while also being familiar with Western culture.
I wonder if I should just watch my daughter as they devote themselves to the Nadeshiko Way.
It was while I was standing by the lake after returning home, thinking about such things.
My daughter was also there, but she didn't have her witch's flute with her.
Oh, watch out, watch out.
If she had blown that flute, I would have been possessed by the magic, my body would have started moving and dancing, and I would have been thrown into the lake.
Then I would have been awakened and my adrenaline would have kicked in and I would not have been able to take a nap afterwards.

本日の日没時の空の模様をご覧ください。
これは朝と昼と全く変わらない空模様です。
何の変哲もなく面白くもない灰一色の空。
ここノースウェストの冬季には珍しくもない、典型的な景色です。
わざわざ高台に登ってこの空を写真撮影する価値があるのか、と当初思いました。
目を楽しませてくれるものはなく、心を動かされることもない退屈な景色。
やがてこの空がコロナ禍の強制ステイホーム期間の単調な日々と重なりました。
食に、交友に、旅行にと外からの刺激を求め、自らを喜ばせ楽しませてくれるものを探し歩いていた自分自身が強制的に灰色の世界に閉じ込められているのです。
こんな時こそ自分自身の棚卸しの時であると、ある方の文章から気づきを得ました。
自分自身がワクワクできる事とは何であるのか。
人に奉仕せよと教えられることの多いキリスト教世界ではあるが、真の意味で自分自身が生かされてなく他者を生かすことはできない。
「自分自身を愛するようにあなたの隣人を愛しなさい」と主イエスは教えてくださった。
先ず自分自身を愛することを知らないものが、隣人を愛そうと努めたところでそれは付け焼き刃にしかならない。
私はどんなことに命を燃やせるのだろうか。

This is the same sky pattern as in the morning and also afternoon.
A plain, uninteresting gray sky.
It's a typical winter scene here in the Northwest.
At first, I wondered if it was worth the effort to climb up to the top for photograph this sky.
There was nothing to please the eye, nothing to move the heart, just a boring view.
Eventually, this sky overlapped with the monotonous days of my forced stay home in Corona.
I have been trapped in a gray world of food, companionship, and travel, forcing myself to search for outside stimulation and things that would please and entertain me.
I realized from someone's writing that this is the time to take stock of myself.
What are the things that excite me?
In the Christian world, we are often taught to serve others, but we cannot help others unless we are truly alive ourselves.
The Lord Jesus taught us, "Love your neighbor as you love yourself."
If we don't know how to love ourselves first, our efforts to love our neighbors will only be improvised.
What kind of things can I burn my life for?
今朝のシアトルの天候はおかしなもので、およそ半分ほどの空が青空、
3割が白い雲で、残りの2割ほどが黒い雨雲に覆われていました。
夕暮れ時は激しく雹も降り、寒さも募ります。
ある方向の一画だけ空が切り取られたように黒雲で覆われていて、
その雨雲からは激しく雨が地表に注いでいるのだと思われます。
ここで話の方向転換して、
大河ドラマ「麒麟が来る」がいよいよ面白くなってきました。
最終回の本能寺の変に向け、その光秀の背後にある黒幕が伏線として登場してきています。
謎に包まれた本能寺の変ですが、信長に対する光秀個人の怨恨説と言うよりも、イデオロギーや価値観、そしてナンバーツーの力関係が光秀をして突発的な暴挙に走らせたと言うものでしょう。
イデオロギーについて〜武士の棟梁である征夷大将軍・足利義昭を奉ぜよ、との荒木の言葉。
価値観について〜天皇との密談を信長に問われても黙秘する光秀。光秀が初めて主君信長の上に天皇と言う存在を高く見積もっていたことが明らかとなる。ついに信長から額に出血するほどの暴行を受けるに至った。
ナンバーツーである徳川家康との密談〜家康が本能寺の変に絡んでいることが最近の検証から私も納得しています。
これら3点についてはまた後ほど詳しく。
現段階では黒幕の正体が誰かは明かされていません。
さて、日暮れの暗い黒雲でしたが、雹が降ったと思ったらその直後、晴れ間が広がり虹が差していました。

The Honnoji Incident is shrouded in mystery, but rather than a theory of Mitsuhide's personal grudge against Nobunaga, it is more likely that ideology, values, and the power relationship of the number two made Mitsuhide go on a sudden rampage.
On ideology - Araki's words that Mitsuhide should be dedicated to Ashikaga Yoshiaki, the founder of the warrior class.
On values - Mitsuhide keeps silent when Nobunaga asks him about his secret talks with the emperor. For the first time, it becomes clear that Mitsuhide had a high opinion of the emperor above his lord Nobunaga. Finally, he is assaulted by Nobunaga to the point of bleeding on his forehead.

その時、娘は諸般の用事のためそこにはいなかったのです。

例の笛を吹かれて魔術に掛けられることから免れました。
昨日からの晴天ゆえ今朝の気温は摂氏0度を下回るほどとなり、
辺り一面に霜が降りているほどだったのです。
寒中水泳の代わりに湖上をカヤックでのんびりと遊覧。
遠くにはレーニア山を見据え、湖面にキラキラと輝く日の光の反射を身に受けながら新鮮な空気をいっぱい吸い込むと、生きている実感が蘇ってくるようでした。

十分に太陽光線を浴びることから脳内からセロトニンと言うホルモンが分泌されるのだそうです。やがてそのセロトニンが脳内の松果体でメラトニンに変化すると、そのメラトニンによって睡眠への導入がなされるのだそうです。
布団を日干しにしたときに太陽の暖かさを感じるような快適さで今日は眠りにつけるでしょうか。

Sunlight is now a precious resource for maintaining humanity.
It is said that when we are exposed to enough sunlight, our brains secrete a hormone called serotonin. When the serotonin is converted to melatonin in the pineal gland in the brain, the melatonin will induce sleep.
Am I able to go to sleep today with the comfort of feeling the warmth of the sun when you dry your futon in the sun?
今朝のシアトル地方は一段と寒さがつのり、外は厚い靄に包まれました。
日本列島では半日前にやはり寒波に覆われていたこととつながってるのかなぁ、などとその関連性に思いを寄せました。
太陽が上がるにつれ晴間が広がり、夕刻にはきれいな夕焼け空を眺めることができました。
「アメリカは今大変でしょう。大丈夫？そちらは平和ですか」
先ほど日本に住むある牧師から電話でこんなことを聞かれました。
明日1月20日がバイデン新大統領の就任式であることを日本の報道機関がかなり取り上げているようです。
「少しも大変さなんて感じてません。大騒ぎしてるのはテレビだけではないんですか。いつもと変わらない平和な日常ですよ」なんて事を答えておきました。
何を騒いだり不安に思ったりすることがあるでしょうか？
特に日本人のみなさん、私たちはこんなことよりももっと不確かで急激な変化にも対応してきた歴史があることを思い出そうではありませんか。
唐突な事例を持ち出すようですが、1582年、本能寺の変による織田信長の横死です。あの段階で一体誰が信長のいない世を考えられたでしょうか。その直後、豊臣秀吉による中国大返しの離れ業があって、光秀の天下は13日間しか続かなかったわけです。
一寸先は闇。
翌日にはどのような世界となってるかも、自らの命そのものさえもわからないあの不確かな戦国時代を駆け抜けてきた歴史を抱いているのが私たち日本人です。
大河ドラマ「麒麟が来る」は、その最終回まであと数回を残すまでとなりました。最終回があの本能寺の変の場面なのだそうです。
それに向けて信長と光秀の関係が徐々に亀裂が入り、断絶していく物語の展開に見ごたえがあります。直近のドラマでは松永久秀が残した茶器の平蜘蛛をめぐる両者の価値観の違いを描くとは、これまでにはない画期的な脚本でした。
時代考証を担当している静岡大学教授の小和田さんが良い。
彼によれば日本史最大の謎とされる本能寺の変を、光秀による「信長暴走阻止説」にあるとしていて、脚本家は今のところ忠実にそのストーリーを紡ぎ出しています。
大河ドラマから米国の現実に話を戻せば、
明日には今や予定された就任式があり、その後の政権移行があり、どんな暴動が起こったとしてもこれを抑える警察力があり、たとい外国が攻めてきたとしてもはね返すだけの強力な軍事力のある国にいて何を恐れることがありましょう。
聖書には、「恐れるな」と言う言葉が356回出てくるそうです。
聞いた話でして、自ら数えた事はありません。
それによるとまるで1年365日、毎日神が私たちに「恐れるな」と語っておられるようだと言うことです。
恐れなくて良い確かな理由と、恐れるなというのが神の命令であることだけは確かなことです。
十字架にかけられる前夜の最後の晩餐の席上で、主イエスが弟子たちにに言われた言葉があります。
"わたしはあなたがたに平安を残します。
わたしの平安を与えます。
わたしは、世が与えるのと同じようには与えません。
あなたがたは心を騒がせてはなりません。
ひるんではなりません。"
ヨハネの福音書 14章27節
当時の弟子たちには、警察力などの物理的な力があって安全が確保されていたのではありません。
主イエスがやがて与えてくださるスピリットが、恐れを乗り越えさせて下さるのです。
It was even colder in the Seattle area this morning, and a thick haze enveloped us outside.
I wondered if it was related to the cold wave that covered the Japanese archipelago half a day ago.
As the sun rose, the sky became clearer, and in the evening we could see a beautiful sunset.
“Are you okay? Is there peace there?”
A pastor who lives in Japan just called me and asked me this question.
The Japanese press seems to be covering the inauguration of the new President Biden tomorrow, January 20th.
“I don't feel it's a big deal at all. Isn't it just the TV that is making a big deal out of it? “ I answered, "I don't feel any difficulty at all.”
What is there to fuss about or worry about?
Let's remember, especially Japanese people, that we have a history of coping with more uncertain and sudden changes than this.
At the risk of bringing up an abrupt example, in 1582, Oda Nobunaga was killed in the Honnoji Incident. At that stage, who could have imagined a world without Nobunaga? Immediately after that, Toyotomi Hideyoshi carried out the Great Return of Chuugoku and Mitsuhide's reign lasted only 13 days.
The future was dark then.
We Japanese have a history of running through the uncertain Warring States Period, not knowing what the world would be like or your life would be the next day.
We are now only a few episodes away from the final episode of the historical drama "Kirin ga Kuru". The final episode is said to be the scene of the Honnoji Incident.
Toward that point, the relationship between Nobunaga and Mitsuhide is gradually cracking and breaking down, and it is a story worth watching.
The most recent drama depicted the difference in values between the two over a tea instrument the Hiragumo, left by Hisahide Matsunaga, which was a groundbreaking script never told before.
Mr. Owada, a professor at Shizuoka University who is in charge of historical research, is good.

At the Last Supper, the night before His crucifixion, the Lord Jesus said to His disciples.
"I leave you peace.
I give you my peace.
I do not give in the same way that the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled.
Do not be dismayed."
John 14:27
The disciples at that time did not have a police force or any other physical force to keep them safe.
The Spirit that the Lord Jesus would eventually give them would help them overcome their fears.
成人式おめでとうございます。
昨日はズームを通じて数百人の新成人たちと共にお祝いし、
一夜明けた今日は、数人の家族で再びお祝いしました。
暖かい陽光の降り注ぐ中、水面に反射する光を受けて、
優しい風と緑の植物に囲まれながらゆっくり、それにまったりとした時間が流れて行きます。
幾多の試練をくぐり抜けて、神様がこんなにも綺麗でそして優しいお姉さんに育てあげてくださったことに感謝し尽くせることはありません。
本日届いたばかりの彼女の着ている紫色の浴衣は、次回の日本舞踊で「藤の花」を新しく稽古するときにぴったりのものとなるはずです。
踊りの稽古に先立って、その日本語歌詞の読み書き練習をしました。
ここに出てくる「踊りのお姉様」って明美自身のことだねぇ、なんて笑いながら。

Yesterday, we celebrated with hundreds of new adults via zoom.
Today, after a long night, we celebrated again with a few family members.
As the sun shone warmly, the light reflected off the water, and we were surrounded by a gentle breeze and green plants, time passed slowly and peacefully.
I can't thank God enough for raising her to be so beautiful and kind after going through so many trials and tribulations.
The purple yukata she is wearing, which just arrived today, will be perfect for her next Japanese dance rehearsal of "Wisteria Flower".
Prior to the dance practice, we practiced reading and writing the Japanese lyrics of the song.
We laughed about how the "dancing sister" in the song refers to Akemi herself.

本日は成人式がありまして、娘もその式に参列できました。
はいシアトルにも総領事館や日系コミュニティーからの全面バックアップを受けた成人式が行われます。昨年がその第一回目。
パンデミック最中の今年は一堂に集まることができませんでしたので、ズームでの参加となりました。
それでも娘は浴衣に着替えての参加です。
米国シアトルからの参加はもちろん、カリフォルニアやニューヨーク長崎や横浜など日本各地からシアトル滞在経験のある新成人が参加。
ローリー・マツカワさんや友人の隻眼パイロット前田シンジさんからも先輩からの熱きエールが送られて娘も感激です。
来年こそ一堂に会した新成人たちの振袖姿・袴姿を見てみたいものです。
There was a coming-of-age ceremony today, and my daughter was able to attend it.
Yes, Seattle has a coming-of-age ceremony that is fully supported by the Consulate General and the Japanese American community.
Last year was the first one.
This year, during the pandemic, we were not able to get together, so we had to zoom in.
Even so, my daughter changed into a yukata to participate.
There were new adults from Seattle, USA, as well as from California, New York, Nagasaki, Yokohama, and other parts of Japan who had lived in Seattle.
Laurie Matsukawa and my friend Shinji Maeda, a pilot with single eye, gave us enthusiastic encouragement as their seniors, and my daughter was thrilled.
Next year, I would like to see all the new adults together in kimono and hakama.

数週間ぶりに太陽の光を見ました。
ようやくシアトル上空にも青空が広がり、大げさに言えば太陽が存在していたのを視覚的に確認できたのです。
夕方を待たずに高台へ上り、いつもの角度から山の稜線を眺めました。
オリンピック山脈の山頂の雪化粧は、山々の半分近くまでその裾野をおろしていました。
日光に我が身を照らすのがこれほど爽快なことかと感動ものです。
その山を眺めた直前の午前中、定例シアトル地区日本人日系人牧師会にズーム参加。
この牧師会は3ヶ月毎に開かれていて、言わば同業者たちと顔を合わせての情報や祈りの交換ができた久方ぶりの貴重な時でした。
昨今の大統領選挙に絡む政治的分断が教会内にも大きく影響していること。
教会リーダーとして各個人が政治的スタンスとどのような距離を置いて、教会内でどのような言動がふさわしいのか。
パンデミックの中でのオンラインを用いての集会のあり方と課題。
各教団教派の伝統や各教会の運営手法に見られる型枠。
それらは決して退けるものではなく尊いものではあるが、普遍的なものでもないとの認識。結局牧師とはその型枠の中に自らを律したり、群の信者を閉じ込めようとする組織運営者に過ぎなかったのではないかとの反省。
そのような意味の「牧師」は新約聖書には登場していないとの発見。
ある牧師からそのような真摯なお話が聞けて、神聖な光に心探られ温められたような時間となりました。
そして夕刻に再びその高台に上がってみると、やはり美しい夕焼け空が広がっていました。
For the first time in weeks, I saw the light of the sun.

It was the first time in a long time that I was able to meet with my peers and exchange information and prayers.
The political divide related to the recent presidential election is having a great impact on the church.
As a church leader, what kind of distance should each individual keep from political stances, and what kind of words and actions are appropriate in the church?
How to conduct online meetings in the midst of a pandemic.
The traditions of each denomination and the patterns found in the operational methods of each church.
The recognition that these are not universal, though they are precious and not to be dismissed. In the end, the pastor was just an administrator who tried to discipline himself or confine his flock of believers within the framework.
Discovered that "pastor" in that sense does not appear in the New Testament.
Hearing such a sincere talk from a pastor was like being searched and warmed by the divine light.
In the evening, I went up to the hill again and found a beautiful sunset sky.

究極的な意味で信頼できる方とは、私たちを造られた方しかありません。
今日1日は、創造主の懐に抱かれるような大自然の中で、昨日までの緊張を癒していただきました。
湖の上で朝日と戯れました。
カヌーの先のほうに見える秀麗な山は、富士山のような孤峰でレニア山です。
高台から遠くを見渡し、夕日を眺めました。

(Isaiah 2:22), the Bible tells us this way.
The only One we can trust in the ultimate sense is the One who created us.
Today, we spent the day in the great outdoors, embraced by the bosom of our Creator, healing the tensions of yesterday.
We played with the morning sun on the lake.
The beautiful mountain at the end of the canoe is Mount Rainier, a solitary peak like Mt.Fuji.
We looked out into the distance from a hill and watched the sunset this evening.
I remembered God's words in the Psalms, "Open your mouth wide and I will fill it," and I did just that with my son.
かつて13世紀にドイツのハーメルンと言う街に笛吹男がやってきたそうです。この男が笛を吹くと街中の子供たちがその笛の音につられて男の後について行き、街から忽然と姿を消したそうです。
シアトルにも笛を吹く乙女がいまして、同様の魔女の力を持っているようです。
彼女が笛を吹き続けると、抵抗することもできずに体が動き出し、踊りだし、気づいてみたら冷たい湖に飛び込んでしまいました。笑。
でもこちらの魔女さんは優しい女性でして、そのあとおいしい夕食でもてなしてくれました。
この乙女の笛を聴いたら、皆さん気をつけてください。

主は私の人生に、そして私の関わっている世界に新たな創造をなされるお方だ
新春の稽古始め。
本日が初稽古のため、先生の配慮で通常の浴衣ではなく晴れ着を着ての稽古となりました。踊り用の帯も締めていただきました。このまま成人式に行けそうです。
日本舞踊の仕草の端端に見える、なでしこの備えるべき理想人の資質。
師匠の指導からそのことが伺いしれます。
しとやかであり、
かつ、
たおやかであらねばならない。
しとやかさは、常に両膝を合わせながら内股気味に歩くことに。
そしてたおやかさは、扇子で口元を半分だけ隠す仕草に表されるように感じました。
娘は本来野生のような激しさを持って生まれたはずなのに、稽古を通じて真逆にある繊細で清楚な表現方法を学ぶ。
それは日常の生き方自体にもつながるものでしょう。
ここに何か大きな意義があるような気がする。
そんなことを帰りの車中で、二人して話していました。
家に着くと早速娘は夕食にピザを作ってくれました。
昨晩のうちにその生地は用意しておいたものです。
つまり全てが彼女の手作り。
彼女のピアノ演奏をBGMにしていただきました。
The first practice of the new year.

My daughter was naturally born with wild and fierce, but through her training, she learned how to express herself in a delicate and innocent way that is the exact opposite.
It would be something that would lead to her daily life itself.
