Japan as seen from America

Living in the U.S., I can see how Japan is viewed by Americans. In short, you can tell where America is looking based on the amount of topics that appear in American media.

To put it bluntly, there is no mention of Japan in the U.S., it is not a subject of news. The replacement of the Japanese Prime Minister is hardly reported. It’s not just Japan, Korea and Vietnam are also not mentioned. Even when it comes to China, they are not reported in the media that much. It's more common to hear about Hong Kong than China.

Europe, Africa, and India are not covered in the media. Canada, Mexico, Central America, South America, and even the Middle East (where problems are occurring) are not reported on. The U.S. doesn't see the world unless something big is going on. Many Americans probably can't even find Japan on a world map.

In any case, most people in the US do not have a global view. What is important in the U.S. is its own people, with freedom as the most important thing. If Japan really wants to ally itself with the U.S., it needs to deepen its relationship with the American people. However, Japanese people are not good at communicating. They are quiet, slow to make decisions, and no one takes responsibility. Moreover, Japan is now closed to the U.S. due to the Pandemic. More and more, the American people are forgetting about us. Some people may be okay with that, but I want Japan to stand out more.
