When you want to start something

I think many people have trouble starting something they want to do right away. When they want to do something, they immediately start thinking about why they can't do it. And the more you think about it, the more you fall into the trap of thinking you won't or can't do it. When I start thinking about creating a new product or business, there are three things I do:

1. Research the competition
2. Consider the cost.
3. Ask others (including experts) for their opinion.

Research the competition

It's important to know what competition exists out there. But solely thinking about how you won’t be able to offer the same features or sell them for as low as other companies is a negative thought. You need to think about how you can make something better or more distinctive compared to others, instead of thinking you can’t do it because someone else already is. There’s a market for similar products and services because perhaps the ones on the market aren’t addressing or aren’t able to address a common customer frustration. Therefore, we shouldn’t think we can’t do something just because there are similar products and services out there. Rather, we can see that there’s a market for it because it already exists. No matter how great a company is, it will never have 100% of the market share.

Consider the cost.

You can’t spend money you don’t have. But instead of giving up because you can’t afford it, do the best you can with the money you have and seek investment and financing later. If you don’t take any risks and completely rely on outside capital, you won’t be able to attract capital or loans. Think about what you can do to help.

Ask for other people's opinions.

Even when you ask for other people’s opinions, it’s still your project. Outside experts won’t have the same motivations as you. So, be careful of people who both praise and disagree with you. Because they could steal your ideas. The same goes for family members. I know many people who have been betrayed by family members. When asking for an outsider’s opinion, ask them about the intention behind those details, rather than the idea itself or the project as a whole.

Whether you do what you set out to do is up to you. What you need is action and determination. I’ve often failed by trying to do it half-heartedly. Even so, I’m glad I did it rather than not doing it. After all, isn’t it better to do it and learn along the way rather than regret what you never tried?

EVs are not very popular in Japan

People might think country like Japan might be moving rapidly toward EV but the fact is that EVs are not very popular in Japan. In last two weeks I only saw less than 10 Teslas in Japan. I think mainly Teslas are too large for Japan. Also, gas is cheaper and people drive less in Japan. Also there are many hybrids as Japan is the leader in hybrid technologies.

We designed Pacific Software Publishing, Inc.’s (PSPINC) website creation tool, WebdeXpress (WDX), with a different concept compared to many other websites, design, and management tools. They generally use content management systems (CMS) or a What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get (WYSIWYG) system. Unlike other CMS-based software focusing on appearance, WDX is designed that user can choose from pre-created design templates and complete creating a website by following the necessary steps.

WDX is a standard CMS function that comes with Dreamersi, PSPINC’s hosting service. And it’s available in Japan through Alpha Mail 2, which is a hosting service that Otsuka Shokai sells.

Additionally, websites created with WDX are compatible with mobile devices, like smartphones. Therefore, you can easily create a website that will rate highly on search engines in a short amount of time. And of course, you don’t have to know any coding languages like HTML or CSS to create the website with WDX.

If you do have some website design knowledge, for example, WDX offers a regular menu (dashboard) in addition to the simplified menu. In addition to all the functions offered in the simplified menu, you can also make minor changes and settings to your website with the regular menu. And of course, you can also edit your site with HTML and CSS.

The biggest hurdle in creating a website is content creation. Design is only meaningful after determining the content. Since WDX is CMS-designed, it allows you to create web pages by writing content, which other companies don’t have as an available feature. If you’re looking to update your website but don’t know where to start, this is a reminder that WDX is a free service.

What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get (WYSIWYG) is a technology that displays content in the same way it’s displayed on the screen. Hence why the acronym stands for “What You See is What You Get”.

Content management systems (CMS) manage digital content such as the text and images that make up web content in an integrated and systematic manner. It’s a general term and performs necessary processing such as distribution.

One of the most significant things about speeding time in Japan is the amount of time you spend walking. You use public grasportaion like trains to move one place to the other and the rest is walking. Since I got to Japan 4 days ago, I am averaging over 3 miles of walking everyday.

I think cities like Seattle are trying to be that way but there is one big difference that make public transportation like light-rail will fail. Most cities in Japan are create around railroad stations instead of railroad being build to the locations where they are not design to be. And the population of the cities like Seattle are not big enough to have enough rail cars to be more effective.

You are asked to wear mask all the time on board ANA flight to Japan. It is also custom to wear mask anywhere in Japan. It is so odd to see everyone is wearing mask in Japan except some foreigners. Those who are not wearing mask look very out of place in Japan but I do not know if it is really doing any good.

I also heard, you are not ask to wear masks when you are flying from Japan to the USA. I will let you know if that is true when I go home.

The call sign for All Nippon Airways is NH ... It used to be called Nippon Helicopter.

I really enjoy the flight to Japan. The immigration line was little long but I wen through very smoothly. Bags were ready out when I got to customs. I was able to exchange some dollars to Yen at 144 yen = $1.00 ... Very good rate. I am starting to report from Japan now.

What is Dialysis?

When I was hospitalized for liver surgery, I had my first dialysis treatment. At first, I went twice a week for three hours. Then, it became twice a week for four hours after leaving the hospital. For many people, they have to undergo treatment three times a week. In that sense, I can call myself lucky because I only go twice a week. But going for four hours twice a week is tiring. When I first started my dialysis treatment, I was so tired I couldn’t move for several hours afterwards. But now, I can drive myself to work after dialysis. Sometimes, I wonder if I really need it anymore, but I go just to be sure.

Dialysis is a treatment used to purify the blood in place of your kidneys when your kidneys’ ability to cleanse your blood’s toxins is impaired. In 1960, the University of Washington developed the procedure in Washington State. In 1962, the procedure went public. The clinic that I go to, the Northwest Kidney Center, for my dialysis treatments also happens to be the first clinic that opened its doors to the public, making it the oldest dialysis center in the world. Before they developed dialysis, kidney disease was a death sentence. When dialysis treatments started, there were only a few seats available. And I’ve heard that life and death depended on who could receive dialysis treatment.

A survey from 2015 showed that about 1,500 per million people in the U.S receive dialysis treatments. When calculated from the population, there are almost 500,000 people who receive dialysis treatments in the United States. In Japan, 2,500 per million people receive dialysis treatments. So, there are more than 300,000 people as a whole who receive dialysis treatments as a whole in Japan. In Taiwan, 3,200 per million people go to dialysis, which is over 75,000 people in total. There are many causes for kidney disease, but I’ve heard diabetes is the most significant cause. In addition to not being able to cleanse toxins in the blood, kidney disease can also cause kidneys to shut down and no longer produce urine. I don’t have that problem, but dialysis has the ability to remove water from the blood in addition to removing toxins. Since your diseased kidneys can’t produce urine, there must be a way to remove water from somewhere. That is the role of dialysis.

In my case, my kidney function declined after my surgery, so I started dialysis. I believe I’m still less dependent on dialysis than others, and I think I should try to maintain this state. The first steps to achieve that is getting more control over my weight and reducing my salt intake. In the U.S, two grams (or ½ teaspoon) is a good rule of thumb. In Japan, it’s said to be six grams. This is because it isn’t as easy to reduce salt in Japan compared to the United States. So, why is it necessary for me to reduce my salt intake?

When your kidneys function normally, your kidneys excrete the excess salt. In the case of kidney disease, salt accumulates in the body because of how impaired this function is. And this is one of the causes of high blood pressure. If high blood pressure persists, your kidney’s blood flow becomes blocked, further deteriorating kidney function. When the kidneys deteriorate, feet swelling and other symptoms occur. I used to have swollen feet, but not anymore. Does this mean that dialysis is helping me?

Since starting dialysis, I’ve found it’s difficult to travel abroad. In the U.S., insurance won’t cover you overseas. In short, if you receive dialysis abroad, you have to pay everything for the treatment. It’s strange how there are so many people receiving dialysis in the world yet there are borders in the dialysis network. Dialysis has been around for about 60 years, but there still seems to be room for evolution.

I am on law or reduced salt diet, and Japan is one of the most difficult places to find reduced salt diet.

Foods in Japan are very good and inexpensive due to the exchange rate.

Yesterday, it cost me almost $80 to fill up my Subaru at $5.199 per gallon even at Costco. I cannot imagine people driving full size truck for living like landscapers and construction workers. Based on the data from the website (https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/Japan/gasoline_prices/) the gas price in Japan is about $4.35 per gallon) ... That is insane. Japan has no oil production and must import 100% of oil it uses. The US has one of the most oil rich nations and still imports most of its oil. Why is it hat gas prices in Japan are lower than the US?

Something is very wrong!!!

Recently, there’s been a lot of talk about the lack of interest in Facebook, especially among younger generations. So, it’s not surprising that Meta’s (Facebook’s parent company) stock continues to fall.

As Facebook’s popularity wanes, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram gain traction. Each of these services has its own specialties.

YouTube has long-form videos, TikTok has short-form videos, and Instagram has photos and videos.

But now, Instagram’s trying to compete with TikTok by introducing Reels, or short-form videos. But it, unfortunately, has the opposite effect of halting user growth.

Facebook allows users to post all of it: long-form videos, short-form videos, and photos. Therefore, Facebook, overall, is not a unique service.

But I don’t want to talk about these social media platforms. I want to talk about your business. For my company, we offer so many services that we’ve lost sight of what our specialty is. My company needs to re-evaluate what makes us unique right now. Even though we’re doing well now, it’ll be hard to survive in the future if we aren’t unique as a company.
