Japan Business Trip

I will be traveling to Japan a week from today on WestJet. This will be my first time flying with WestJet from Seattle to Calgary and then to Narita, Japan. Compared to other airlines, the price I got from WestJet for a full-flat business class seat was the best ever. For now, I am okay with being in a different class from Seattle to Calgary, and I may have to pay for checked baggage. However, it seems that the baggage fee is waived for the Calgary to Narita segment. I'll keep you posted.

Testing Out T-Mobile Home Internet: First Impressions and Initial Setup

Yesterday, I received my T-Mobile Home Internet box, and I was eager to test it out. The setup process was incredibly simple—almost too simple. The box comes equipped with its own Wi-Fi, so all I had to do was plug it into a power source. As soon as it was plugged in, the system was ready to go.

However, after setting everything up, I quickly realized that the internet connection was far from ideal. The best speeds I could achieve were 6 Mbps for downloads and 2 Mbps for uploads. To put it mildly, that’s not nearly enough for any serious online activities, whether it's streaming, video conferencing, or even just browsing the web efficiently.

Given these disappointing speeds, my plan is to try placing the T-Mobile Home Internet box in different locations around my house tonight. Sometimes, a different spot can make all the difference in signal strength and speed. I’m hopeful that I can find a location that provides a more stable and faster connection.

While many may be satisfied with the status quo, even the most successful businesses need to continually make small improvements, refinements, and reforms. Without this, their success may fade over time, and risk losing their competitive edge. In today’s rapidly changing society, the ability to continuously adapt is crucial. Every aspect of our environment, from technological advancements to shifting customer needs and market trends, is constantly evolving.

So, what specifically should we change, and how should we go about it? The first step in finding the answer is to thoroughly understand your current situation. It’s also essential to identify the gap between our current state and the goals we want to achieve, or the needs of our customers. This gap identifies where change is necessary, and where to focus.

This morning, I was at Costco and was surprised to see that Halloween goods are already on display. Halloween is on October 31st, which is still two and a half months away. It feels a bit too early for this, doesn't it? While I understand that stores like to get a head start on holiday promotions, seeing Halloween items out in early August seems premature. It makes me wonder if we’re rushing through the seasons too quickly, not giving ourselves enough time to enjoy the present before moving on to the next big event. I suppose it’s all about marketing and getting people in the mood for the upcoming holidays, but it does feel like we’re fast-forwarding through the year.

Two More Japan Business Trips This Year!!!

I've planned a business trip to Japan to coincide with an event on November 2. This time, instead of my usual airline, I've decided to try Zipair, operated by Japan Airlines, for the first time. Since there aren't any flights from Seattle, I booked a round-trip ticket from Vancouver to Narita with a full-flat seat, which is the closest departure option. I added several options, including the ability to check in two bags, and the total cost came to around $2,850. It's quite affordable, right? However, since Zipair is not a full-service airline, you have to purchase meals and entertainment separately. But honestly, I'm just happy to have a full-flat seat where I can sleep comfortably. I've heard there's no in-flight entertainment system, so I'll be using my iPad during the flight. The rumor that Wi-Fi is free on Zipair is definitely a plus!

My next trip to Japan will be from September 4 to September 19, and I'll be flying with WestJet, another first for me, via Calgary to Narita. This ticket includes full service, and with insurance, it cost around $2,350. It's another very affordable business class ticket with a full-flat seat, so I'm looking forward to it. The only downside is the long layover in Calgary—5 hours on the way there and 7 hours on the way back. Even so, I'm excited and will report back on the experience. Lately, I've been putting a lot of effort into finding affordable tickets for trips to Japan.

Finding these budget-friendly tickets has become one of the highlights of my business trips to Japan.

Ford Mach-e Problem Update

Due to the issue we had with the Ford Mustang Mach-E, we had it towed to the Ford dealership on August 1. However, we have not received any updates on its status for more than a week. I visited the Ford dealership this morning to get an update. The person in charge of my car's service was not available, but I was able to speak with someone else. He informed me that they are currently working on the High Voltage Battery Junction Box and addressing other recalls. I requested that they provide us with regular updates.

Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for Certain 2021-2022 model year Mustang Mach-E extended range and GTs built between May 27, 2020 to May 24, 2022 related to failures of the High Voltage Battery Junction Box

Business Networking

I was fortunate to join the Seattle Executive Association (SEA) in 2003. The purpose of this association is for members, who run businesses in the Seattle area, to support each other. Therefore, only one company per industry can join the association. Members are expected to prioritize purchasing services and products from fellow member companies whenever possible.

Over the past 21 years, I have served in various roles, including officer, treasurer, and president. Additionally, a manager from my company was the first Japanese woman to be selected as president. As of the end of this July, I have stepped down from SEA, and my position has been handed over to a company manager at PSPINC. He has already served as the president of the associate group and is scheduled to become the president of the main group in January 2025. This marks the third president from our company, which is a great honor.

There are many executive associations across the United States, and they form an organization called the International Executives Association (IEA). In September, an IEA conference will be held in Las Vegas.

Introducing Biznomos
At PSPINC, we developed a portal site system called Biznomos to manage executive associations. This system strengthens the collaboration among association members and facilitates smoother business networking. At the upcoming conference in Las Vegas, PSPINC will present Biznomos as a sponsor.

Looks like Kamala Harris seleced her running mate. I am not politically active but I am nopt happy with (1) Current Ecomony (Cost of Living), (2) War in both Ularina and Gaza, (3) Mass Illigail Migration, (4) Higher Taxes, (5) Free Tax Momey Goveaway by The Governmmet (Student Loan Forgiveness). None of which existed until the current administartion. If the Kamala Harris thinks we are doing just fine, I am not buying it.

How important is SDG & Carbon Nutral?

I have been wondering how important SDGs and carbon neutrality are. I am not ignoring the importance of these initiatives, but I question how much it costs to implement them. Additionally, without government leadership in SDGs and carbon neutrality, progress is unlikely. However, many of the measures governments worldwide are pushing are not sustainable.

Change is important, but not all changes constitute progress. For instance, EVs might be good for the environment, but their limited range and charging time prevent some people from owning them. Furthermore, I hear that building EVs has a greater environmental impact than producing ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) cars. Additionally, a lot of electricity is still generated using fossil fuels such as coal. Is that really beneficial?

Regarding the Olympics, why don't athletes have air-conditioned rooms? Why are they eating vegan meals? It seems that SDGs are prioritized over the athletes' comfort. If this is becoming the new normal, I need to rethink how we operate our business.
