Second Checkup This Week

First, I went to the lab for a blood test and a urine test. After that, I had an appointment with a nurse at 9 AM. Since some of my medications were changed, they decided to do a kidney ultrasound for further evaluation. However, the ultrasound was scheduled for 1 PM, so even though my morning appointment ended at 10 AM, I spent the waiting time at the hospital cafeteria, having breakfast.

At 1 PM, I was called in for the ultrasound, which ended up taking a whole hour. I'm not sure if the technician was just slow or if it was supposed to take that long, but it felt like the same thing was being done over and over again. Just when I thought it was finally over, they asked me to go pee, and after that, they took another ultrasound of my bladder. By the time everything was finished, it was already 2:15 PM. It was a long session.

TRUMP GOLD CARD VISA

thread
TRUMP GOLD CARD VISA
Selling 1,000,000 of these—do you think that's even possible? But each one costs $5 million. If you think about it, a lot of wealthy Chinese buyers might jump on this opportunity, don’t you think?

They plan to sell 1,000,000 of these, which means a total revenue of $5 trillion flowing into the U.S. economy. Considering that Japan’s national budget is $770 billion, this is six times that amount coming in all at once. Isn’t this a genius idea? There are plenty of people who would love to buy a U.S. visa, right?

But here’s the key point—this is not about buying U.S. citizenship; it's about buying permanent residency. And permanent residency can be revoked at the airport upon entry. That means the only way to truly secure it is to actually move to the U.S.

Now, imagine 1,000,000 people who can afford a $5 million visa all moving to the U.S. Do you realize what kind of impact that would have?

US Stock Market

thread
US Stock Market
Recent Decline in U.S. Stock Prices
Lately, U.S. stock prices have been frequently declining. What is the major reason behind this? I believe it is related to the unemployment rate. In particular, it seems that not only private sector jobs but also government jobs are being lost, with more people voluntarily leaving their positions.

I am not an expert, so I do not claim to understand everything. However, to be honest, I question whether this is really such a serious issue. Many of these government employees are getting paid without actually working. A reduction in government workers leads to lower government spending, ultimately contributing to increased efficiency. Especially when unnecessary personnel are being cut, it should not necessarily be seen as a negative development.

Currently, more than 90% of U.S. government employees claim to be working remotely from home. However, it remains uncertain how many of them are genuinely working. This situation cannot be considered acceptable.

If their unemployment is causing stock prices to drop, it would imply that corporate layoffs should also result in stock declines. This reasoning seems overly simplistic. Perhaps American investors need to think more logically.

Ken Uchikura Newsletter Vol. 326 Advances in Human and Human Technology

thread
Ken Uchikura Newsletter Vol. ...

Advances in Human and Human Technology

Hello, this is Uchikura from PSPINC. How are you all doing? As I mentioned in my blog and social media pages, I’ve had a bad kidney for a long time, but I suddenly got a call from the hospital on January 31 that they had a kidney for me and that they needed to hospitalize me. On February 1, I was admitted to the hospital and left six days later. Many things happened, but I’ll tell you about those six days some other time.

Based on this experience, I will compare organs and human technology today. The kidneys clean the blood in the body and remove unwanted salt, potassium, potassium, potassium, and other unwanted substances from the body through urine. When the kidneys fail, dialysis can help supplement this function. The dialysis machine is about the size of a large photocopier and regulates the body's water and other substances that need to be eliminated. Patients who need dialysis generally go in to get it done two or three times a week for four to five hours.
The doctors showed us the actual kidney they were transplanting, which was about the size of a chicken breast. A kidney the size of a chicken breast naturally does what dialysis machines do over such a long period daily. I am truly grateful to the person who donated the kidney.

Although there have been remarkable technological advances in the medical field, they are only imitations of actual human organs and are therefore inferior to the actual organs. The human body is amazing, yet you can only use it once in a lifetime. Everyone, work is important, but please take care of your bodies and take good care of them for a long time. I, too, will be very careful from now on. I hope you all take good care of your health.

Vlog on Bloguru
Hello, this is Ken Uchikura, President of PSPINC.
Today is February 26, 2025, and it has been 26 days since my kidney transplant surgery.
I cannot say the recovery has been easy or pain-free. However, I have received so many kind messages on my blog and social media. The power of those messages has given me the strength and will to keep moving forward. The alternative is simply unthinkable.
I want to take this moment to personally thank each and every one of you.
First, I am deeply grateful to my family—my wife, my daughter, and my son-in-law. They recently welcomed their second child into the world. Due to my immune system’s condition, I have not yet been able to meet my grandchild, but I am looking forward to that special moment in about a month.
I also want to express my sincere gratitude to the incredible medical staff—the doctors, nurses, and everyone at Virginia Mason Medical Center—who took such great care of me.
Additionally, I want to thank everyone at Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. for their support.
I am not a particularly religious person, but I must thank God for giving me this incredible opportunity to receive a new kidney. And of course, I am deeply grateful to the donor who made this possible. Though I may not yet be well enough to express my thanks in person, I will be sure to do so through the kidney foundation when I am able.
My recovery journey is still long, but I wanted to take a moment to update you all—I am doing as well as I expected. Most importantly, I no longer need dialysis. That in itself is a miracle.
While I was undergoing dialysis, I had so many people to thank. I want to extend my appreciation to the Northwest Kidney Centers, as well as the dialysis centers in Japan, including the Shinbashi Clinic and St. Maria Clinic.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for your kindness and support.
Live long, take care of yourself, and prosper.

Lunch a Panera Bread

thread
Today's lunch was at a bakery chain called Panera Bread, where I bought a dozen freshly baked bagels. In the U.S., a dozen usually means 12, but at bakeries, a dozen actually means 13. Did you know that?

Among them, there were five freshly baked plain bagels, and I couldn’t resist eating one on the spot. It was so warm and delicious!

Although I bought 13 bagels, only these five plain ones were freshly baked. But they were by far the best. They were so good that I didn’t even need to put anything on them!

23rd Day

thread
23rd Day
This is a photo of the lab reception at Virginia Mason Hospital. Every time I visit, I undergo blood and urine tests here. It seems that my kidneys are steadily recovering, and I can feel my overall condition gradually improving. However, I still struggle with medications—some of them cause stomach issues, which can be quite difficult to deal with.

My urine output remains high, which reassures me that my kidneys are functioning well. However, my bladder still has trouble storing urine, so I have to visit the restroom frequently. As a result, I have difficulty getting a full night’s sleep. That being said, there has been some improvement—previously, I could hardly retain even 100cc of urine, but today, I managed to hold close to 200cc. Thanks to this, my sleep duration per session has nearly doubled, which is a great relief. Nevertheless, sleep deprivation is still an issue.

I have no choice but to keep pushing forward. I encourage everyone to take good care of their health. Even if you think, "It’s just a little discomfort, it should be fine," neglecting your health over time can lead to serious consequences. Please take care of your body and prioritize your well-being so that you don’t end up in the same situation as me.

One of the medications that I was prescribed does not agree with me at all. The medication in question is Sodium Bicarbonate, also known as Baking Soda. Unfortunately, it is causing me significant discomfort, primarily due to excessive gas buildup, which makes me feel extremely bloated and uneasy. The side effects have been persistent and bothersome, making it difficult to go about my daily routine comfortably. Given how uncomfortable this has been, I plan to discuss my symptoms with a nurse or doctor tomorrow to explore alternative options or adjustments to my treatment. Hopefully, they can provide a solution that alleviates these side effects while still addressing my medical needs.

what is the problem?

thread
what is the problem?
When a project does not go well, many managers tend to see it as a "people" problem. However, in many cases, the real issue lies in "communication" and "understanding."

For a project to succeed, it is crucial not only to convey "what needs to be done" but also to clarify "why it needs to be done." If team members understand the purpose behind their tasks and can work proactively, the project's progress will improve significantly.

Additionally, there are different types of project failures. Some may result from technical difficulties, while others may occur because team members simply followed instructions without fully grasping the project's objectives. If it is the latter, it is likely that the project's core purpose was not effectively communicated.

As a manager, you can increase the chances of project success by keeping the following points in mind:

1. Share the purpose
Clearly communicate not just "what to do" but also "why it needs to be done."

2. Encourage open communication
Create an environment where team members feel comfortable asking questions, ensuring they do not become mere task executors.

3. Monitor progress and make adjustments
Instead of just giving instructions, conduct regular reviews and make necessary course corrections.

4. Assess team members' suitability
If a project does not improve even after clarifying its intent, re-evaluate whether the assigned team members have the necessary skills and suitability.

When a project struggles, rather than focusing on "who is to blame," it is more important to ask, "how can we make it work?" Managers should reflect on their own actions and consider what they can do to facilitate success.

Wednesday Meals

Wednesday Meals Wednesday Meals Wednesday Meals
I was at the hospital from 8:30 AM until almost 4 PM today. I had breakfast at home, and for the first time since my hospitalization, I ate out for lunch. I had a grilled cheese sandwich at the hospital cafeteria—not exactly an exciting choice for my first meal out. For dinner, I had a stir-fry mixed with yakisoba at home.

At the hospital, I mentioned that I’ve been experiencing persistent diarrhea, so they decided to remove one of my current medications. Hopefully, this will help ease the issue.

The main event of the day was getting the stent removed from between my kidney and bladder in the afternoon. It was quite painful.

A Long Day
This morning, I had a blood test at the hospital at 8:30 AM, followed by a meeting with my nephrologist at 9:30 AM, where we adjusted my medication. Later, at 2:30 PM, I underwent the removal of a stent that had been placed from my kidney to my bladder. This procedure is typically done without anesthesia, so it was quite tough. However, it was successfully removed. Now that the stent is gone, I'm both curious and a bit concerned about how things will feel moving forward.

Ken Uchikura Newsletter Vol. 325 Is the Hosting Business Saturated in Japan?

thread
Ken Uchikura Newsletter Vol. ...

Is the Hosting Business Saturated in Japan?

There’s a discussion about how the hosting business is saturated in Japan, but is that really the case? By examining the domain registration numbers, we can determine whether this trend is true. If the market is saturated, the new registration demand numbers should decrease and the domain registration numbers should plateau. Below are the number of domain registrations in Japan from 2001 to 2024:

- 2001: 40,359
- 2002: 33,189
- 2003: 36,949
- 2004: 47,393
- 2005: 78,345
- 2006: 65,811
- 2007: 66,387
- 2008: 71,028
- 2009: 81,163
- 2010: 88,812
- 2011: 102,457
- 2012: 121,576
- 2013: 140,112
- 2014: 158,479
- 2015: 157,361
- 2016: 178,800
- 2017: 200,264
- 2018: 230,311
- 2019: 267,988
- 2020: 357,150
- 2021: 488,556
- 2022: 570,736
- 2023: 1,398,795
- 2024: 2,629,408

These figures clearly show the growth of domain registrations, indicating that the demand for online presence in Japan is still expanding. This data shows that the demand is not plateauing; on the contrary, they’re rapidly growing. Especially since 2020. The increase in new registrations suggests that many businesses and individuals are still seeking an online presence.

So, where are they hosting these registered domains?
The domain registration situation in Japan is as follows:

- Total number of Top-Level Domains (TLDs): 710
- Total number of registered domains: 7,712,091
- Global market share: 1.02%

This data reflects the scale of domains managed and operated within Japan and its international position.

The breakdown of domain registrations in Japan is as follows:

- .com: 48.74%
- .xyz: 7.68%
- .net: 7.32%
- .lol: 6.08%

Kidney Transplant

thread
Kidney Transplant
When you hear "kidney transplant," what do you think happens? I used to believe they removed the old kidney—the one that wasn’t working—and replaced it with the donor's kidney. But that’s not actually how it works. Unless the old kidney is infected or causing a problem, they leave it in place. Instead, they add the new kidney near the bladder, connecting it to both the bladder and the blood supply. They also place a stent to ensure urine flows properly from the new kidney to the bladder.

After about 20 days, they remove the stent.

Today is the day they will take out my stents. Due to complications after surgery, they had to insert two stents, and both are coming out today. It’s going to be a long day.

Stent Removal

thread
Stent Removal
Tomorrow, the 19th, will be the 18th day since my surgery was performed on February 1st. In the afternoon, the stent that was placed in the ureter connecting my new kidney to my bladder will be removed. The initial stent became immobile, so there are currently two stents in place. I have been told that both of these stents will be removed tomorrow.

Since the procedure will not be performed under general anesthesia, I am a bit concerned about how it will go. However, I have heard that once the stents are removed, the irritation to my bladder will decrease, making things more comfortable. Still, I can't help but feel a little nervous.

Not All Web & Email Hosting Are Created Equal

thread
Not All Web & Email Host...
Not All Web & Email Hosting Are Created Equal

In the world of web and email hosting, many providers claim to offer the same services. But the truth is, not all hosting solutions are created equal. While some companies rely on third-party infrastructure or pre-built platforms, PSPINC's web and email hosting is built from the ground up—designed to be faster, more secure, and offer maximum uptime for businesses that demand reliability.

 Built for Speed
Speed is everything in today’s digital world. Slow websites not only frustrate visitors but also negatively impact SEO rankings and business credibility. At PSPINC, we optimize our hosting infrastructure with performance in mind—leveraging our own custom-built hosting environment to ensure that websites and emails run smoothly, without the sluggish performance that comes with shared or outsourced solutions.

 Security at the Core
With rising cybersecurity threats, hosting security isn’t an option—it’s a necessity. Unlike many hosting providers that rely on third-party security measures, PSPINC has full control over its security infrastructure. We implement advanced firewalls, encrypted data storage, and proactive monitoring to keep websites and emails protected from cyber threats, phishing attempts, and malware.

 Reliability You Can Trust
Downtime means lost business, lost productivity, and lost revenue. That’s why PSPINC is committed to delivering the highest uptime possible. Our hosting is built with redundancy, backup systems, and real-time monitoring to ensure that your services stay up and running—even in the face of unexpected issues.

 Why PSPINC?
Many hosting companies take a "one-size-fits-all" approach, relying on generic hosting platforms. At PSPINC, we take a custom-engineered approach, fine-tuning every aspect of our hosting environment for businesses that need reliability, performance, and security.

If you’re looking for a hosting provider that prioritizes speed, security, and uptime, PSPINC is here to help. Get in touch today and experience the difference of hosting built from scratch for business success.

Too Much

thread
Too Much
Baking soda is used for the treatment of hyperkalemia, especially when kidney function is impaired. To alleviate hyperkalemia, a condition in which the potassium level in the blood is too high, I had been receiving sodium bicarbonate treatment starting about a week after surgery.

During yesterday's test, my potassium level was still slightly high, so the dosage was increased. However, as soon as the dosage was increased, I experienced an excessive amount of gas buildup, making me feel extremely uncomfortable for about half a day. It wasn’t that the medication didn’t suit me, but rather that the increased dosage was too high.

I immediately contacted the hospital, explaining that the situation was unbearable, and I asked them to return the dosage to its previous level. I haven’t received any further updates yet, but continuing with that higher dosage is simply not an option.

Although business and medical treatments are different, doing too much of something, even if it is beneficial, can have the opposite effect. Medications can be quite scary. Likewise, in business, when making course corrections, we must be careful not to overdo it. This experience has been an important lesson for me.

Sunday

thread
Sunday
These are my breakfast, lunch, and dinner photos from Sunday. I’ve never eaten so regularly and healthily before, but my body is gradually getting used to it. As I mentioned yesterday, I think it’s because of the steroids, but I feel hungry between meals. I need to be mindful of that.

Still, I’m happy to be able to eat proper meals every day. I'm keeping the seasoning light, but it’s not as completely flavorless as the food I used to eat in the past—I can actually enjoy the taste.

I don’t know how long this new kidney will last, but I hope to live with it for a long time.

Tomorrow, I have a hospital check-up at 10:30 AM. I’ll leave home around 9:00 AM, get a blood test and other tests at the hospital first, then have my appointment at 10:30 AM. That will be it for the day.

The next appointment is on Wednesday at 2:30 PM, when they will remove the stent connecting my kidney to my bladder. I’ve heard that I’ll feel much better after it’s removed, so I’m looking forward to it.

Thank you Fareboom
Just before my kidney surgery, I made two reservations to Japan on Japan. The first one was the day after my surgery and second one was going to be in April. Just after I made a reservations I found that I'll be having surgery and I won't be able to go. The first ticket was too close and I was not able to refund or change so I lost that ticket. However, for April, I purchased it through Fareboom website. It is also only refundable ticket but yesterday I called and confirmed that they will be able to postpone my trip. I have to make a reservation in march, but I will be able to postpone my trip till next year. Thank you very much.

PSPINC’s Data Center Strategy for Secure and High-Speed Web Hosting

thread
PSPINC’s Data C...
PSPINC’s Data Center Strategy for Secure and High-Speed Web Hosting

PSPINC operates its own data centers to provide stable web hosting and email services, prioritizing data security and optimal access speed. The company follows these strategic approaches:

 1. Core Data Center Policies

 ① U.S.-Based Data Center Operations
PSPINC’s primary data center is located in Seattle, Washington, ensuring compliance with strict U.S. data protection standards.

Key Features:
- Fully managed by PSPINC, eliminating dependency on third-party providers.
- Advanced backup systems with data mirroring and regular backups.
- 24/7 monitoring to prevent security breaches and system failures.
- HIPAA-compliant secure web messaging services for healthcare-related communication.

 ② Consideration of a Japan-Based Data Center
PSPINC is exploring the possibility of setting up a data center in Japan to improve access speed. However, due to security concerns, the expansion decision is being approached cautiously.

 2. Why PSPINC Avoids Chinese Data Centers

To ensure data security, PSPINC does not consider using Chinese-affiliated data centers, avoiding risks such as:

- Data sovereignty issues: Chinese laws (e.g., National Intelligence Law) may allow government access to stored data.
- Security vulnerabilities: Potential risks of backdoors or malware in China-based servers.
- Legal compliance risks: Using Chinese data centers in Japan might conflict with APPI (Japan's Personal Information Protection Law) and international standards.

Since identifying Chinese-owned data centers can be challenging, PSPINC remains cautious about expanding to Japan and continues to prioritize its U.S.-based data centers.

 3. Solutions for Faster Access in Japan

To enhance performance for Japanese users, PSPINC implements the following measures:

① CDN (Content Delivery Network) Usage
By utilizing CDN technology, PSPINC routes Japanese access requests to the nearest server, improving response speed.

 ② High-Speed DNS Server Deployment
Optimized DNS infrastructure helps reduce website loading times for Japan-based users.

③ Exploring Trusted Japanese Cloud Partnerships
PSPINC is considering partnerships with highly reliable Japanese cloud providers to maintain data security while improving access speed.

 Commitment to Security and Performance
PSPINC remains dedicated to balancing security and access speed, continuously evolving its data center strategy to ensure customer trust and satisfaction.

2 Weeks Since The Surgery

thread
2 Weeks Since The Surgery 2 Weeks Since The Surgery
It’s been two weeks today since my kidney transplant surgery on February 1. Time really flies—it’s already been two weeks. I still feel some pain at the incision site, but I’ve been gradually trying to move around more. Since being discharged, I’ve been going to the hospital every other day for blood tests and consultations with the nurses and doctors. My post-surgery recovery is progressing as expected.

To prevent rejection of the new kidney, I’m taking a variety of medications, including steroids, and I can feel my body constantly adjusting. One challenge I’m facing is dealing with the increased urine production. The steroids have also significantly increased my appetite; I feel like I’m always hungry. Interestingly, despite my increased appetite, my weight has been slowly decreasing each day. So, it’s not that I’m lacking appetite—it’s just how my body is responding.

At every hospital visit, the doctors continue adjusting my medications—some doses are increased, others reduced, and sometimes new medications are added. It’s a bit unsettling not having a set, stable medication regimen yet. However, overall, I feel like my condition is gradually improving.

I truly appreciate everyone’s support and encouragement. Once I regain a bit more strength, I hope to stop by the office occasionally, maybe once a week—unless, of course, I end up being more of a distraction than a help!

Please take care of yourselves and stay healthy. The cold weather continues, so stay warm and well.

Good Friday Morning

thread
Good Friday Morning
February 14, 7:00 AM. I woke up multiple times during the night, but I was still able to sleep for over an hour in a single stretch. That’s a wonderful improvement, and I just woke up a little while ago. I have a hospital visit today around 9:30 or 10:00, so I plan to leave the house around 8:30. It’s still dark outside, and today’s sunrise is expected at 7:15—about 10 more minutes from now.

Getting even a little more sleep at night makes a big difference for my body. I often feel hungry in the middle of the night, probably due to the steroids I’m currently taking, but I try my best not to eat. My weight has remained fairly consistent, and I feel like it might be best to maintain it around this level for now.

I’ll check my morning blood pressure, and then I’ll measure my temperature and blood sugar before having breakfast and getting ready to leave. It’s been exactly two weeks since I was discharged from the hospital on Friday night two weeks ago. I’ve received so many kind messages of encouragement, which keeps me going—thank you all so much.

Another week is coming to an end soon. Please take care of yourselves and stay warm to avoid catching a cold.

A Remarkable Recovery: One Step Closer to Better Health

I recently received great news—my creatinine levels dropped from nearly 10.0 mg/dL to 2.3 mg/dL in a short time. My doctor said, "You're almost there," which gave me hope and motivation.

This improvement shows that my kidney function is recovering, thanks to medical treatment, proper hydration, a kidney-friendly diet, and a positive mindset. While I haven’t reached the normal level of 1.3 mg/dL yet, I’m on the right path.

Health recovery takes time and persistence, but every small step matters. I’ll continue focusing on my well-being, knowing that progress is possible with dedication and care. The best is yet to come!

What Happens When You Start a Business

When considering starting a business, many people face a variety of uncertainties. Questions like, “How do I set up a company?”, “How much will it cost?”, and “How do I handle accounting?” can often become obstacles to taking that first step. However, overcoming these challenges brings the unique joy and fulfillment of defining your own value.

My Experience Starting a Business
I established a company for the first time in 1985. At the time, I founded “Sangrade” as a subsidiary of a Japanese company in Seattle. With the help of a lawyer, I registered the company, opened a bank account, and signed contracts with an accounting firm. This process made me realize the importance of laying a solid foundation for a company.

Later, in 1987, when the Japanese parent company decided to withdraw, I purchased its assets and established Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. Once again, I worked with lawyers, banks, and other trusted professionals to get started. In the early stages of the business, I not only worked to generate income but also focused on building a foundation for future growth through active sales efforts.

Key Points to Keep in Mind When Starting a Business
Starting a business is about more than just selling a product. One area that requires particular attention is accounting. As a business owner, you will handle sums of money on a completely different scale compared to personal finances. It is essential to monitor and manage cash flow daily. Expenses will inevitably arise, and careful planning and control are necessary to account for them.

Additionally, I’ve managed to operate without external investments. For this reason, I treat company expenses with the same mindset as personal expenses. I believe it is crucial to manage a business within your capacity and operate at a scale that aligns with your resources.

To Those Aspiring to Start a Business
Starting a business comes with uncertainties and risks, but it is also a tremendous opportunity to carve your own path through your efforts. I especially encourage young people and retirees to consider starting a business. By keeping track of expenses and proceeding with a well-thought-out plan, you can take on new challenges without excessive risk.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d be more than happy to share my experience and support your journey into entrepreneurship.

Message to our customers!

thread
Message to our customers!
I had a kidney transplant on February 1st, and today is February 12th. It feels both fast and slow at the same time—11 days have passed. Naturally, I haven’t been able to go to the office, and it looks like it will still be a while before I can return. However, I have been staying in touch with my staff through daily Zoom meetings and other updates. Everyone is working really hard.

As for our customers, I don’t think there have been any major issues despite my absence. If anything comes up, please feel free to contact the staff. You can also email me directly—I am checking my emails. The team is doing their best to ensure that things run smoothly while I’m away, so if you need anything, don’t hesitate to reach out to them. In fact, it seems like my absence has motivated them even more. Maybe I get in the way sometimes when I’m around!

I’ve been able to get a little more sleep recently. My strength is still far from 100%—to be honest, it’s probably not even at 50% yet—but I’m slowly improving. I’m truly sorry for any worries I’ve caused, and I deeply appreciate all your support. Thank you so much!

Wednesday Morining
It’s now 6 AM on Wednesday. I just woke up. I have a medical checkup at the hospital starting at 9 AM today, so I woke up a little earlier than usual. I still need to use the restroom frequently, but I’ve been able to sleep for nearly an hour at a time now. I feel like my condition is gradually returning to normal.

It’s amazing how much the body can change with just one kidney. I’m truly impressed by the power of medical science and the resilience of the human body.

Yesterday, our company held a workshop in collaboration with the Japan-America Society. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to participate, but I heard that all the staff worked really hard. I’m so grateful for their efforts.

If I could, I would love to treat them to something nice today, but I’m still unable to go out. That will have to wait for a little while. This workshop will continue for the next few months, so I encourage everyone to join. It’s free of charge!

Adding protein to my diet.

thread
Adding protein to my diet.
After I got off the surgery I was served protain jelly. I found same gelatin-based protein jelly on Amazon and bought it. Each one contains 20 grams of protein. Protein helps regenerate the body's cells, which can speed up wound healing. Besides this, I also bought protein shakes and protein bars. Somehow, it feels like I'm just buying a bunch of snacks, which is kind of fun. Each jelly costs $2.00, and since I bought a pack of over 30, it ended up costing me nearly $75.oo.

My parents are in Japan, but lately, they've only been eating soft foods like rice porridge, so I feel like they’re not getting enough protein at all. Since they spend a lot of time lying down at home, I’m also worried that their muscles might be deteriorating. So, I sent them protein shakes and protein soup as well. I'm an Amazon Prime member in both Japan and the U.S., so I can ship items quickly and for free in both countries. It's a really convenient system.

Cost Cut

thread
Cost Cut
The Trump administration and the way it operates, along with figures like Musk, who aim to reduce America's wasteful spending, are exhilarating to watch from the outside. It truly reveals just how much waste there has been until now. Even more satisfying is seeing the politicians, who squirm like maggots, screaming in response to these cost-cutting measures. It's amusing to see them desperately trying to use the judicial system to prevent cost reductions—how utterly ridiculous they look.

However, is this kind of waste limited to politics alone? It still exists within corporations as well. There are various laws in place to protect employees, but if a company can no longer sustain itself, such laws become meaningless. Yet, businesses are still bound by these regulations and must comply, making it difficult to implement such bold cost-cutting measures. In the U.S., layoffs for cost-saving purposes are still a possibility, but in Japan, reducing labor costs in this manner is far more difficult. If companies could implement these reductions more rationally and as a common practice, it would be incredibly beneficial. But then again, would that make one a dictator?

Diabetes to Kidney Transplant

thread
Diabetes to Kidney Transplant
After undergoing surgeries for diabetes, anemia, kidney disease, and liver cancer, I spent nearly three years on dialysis. I received dialysis on Mondays and Fridays most weeks, allowing me to schedule domestic business trips within the U.S. from Tuesday to Thursday. When traveling to Japan, I relied on dialysis clinics there and never missed my twice-weekly sessions. However, my condition never seemed to improve significantly.

After more than two years, doctors determined that my liver cancer was unlikely to recur, and I gradually became a candidate for a transplant. In 2025, I finally received approval to undergo a transplant. While I was happy about this, I had no prior experience with such a procedure.

On January 27, 2025, I received a call from the hospital informing me that my transplant was approaching. Honestly, I didn’t take it seriously enough at first. I had planned business trips to Japan in both February and April. Then, on January 31, 2025, I was informed that I needed to be hospitalized for the transplant. From that moment, the surgery took place, and my recovery process began. Naturally, all my trips to Japan were canceled, and I won’t be able to travel internationally for at least a year.

This is the journey of my illness and the path that led to my transplant. Now, I feel that my health is gradually improving. However, since I haven’t been able to rest adequately, I often feel a bit sleepy. Still, I believe my surgical wounds are healing well.

Although I’ve only written about the most recent events, this has been a battle against chronic illness for nearly 20 years. I always say this, but I truly hope none of you have to go through the same experience. However, I know that many people are heading down a similar path.

I was fortunate enough to receive a new kidney. More than just sharing my story, I want to encourage everyone to take care of their health. We only have one life and one body. Receiving a second chance, like I did, is rare.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

The Road to Kidney Transplant and an Unexpected Diagnosis

thread
 The Road to Ki...
The Road to Kidney Transplant and an Unexpected Diagnosis

In my previous accounts, I shared how I was diagnosed with diabetes, which later progressed to anemia and eventually led to declining kidney function. As my kidney function continued to deteriorate, I was finally placed on the kidney transplant list. Of course, before being listed, I had to go through numerous tests and procedures.

During one of these pre-transplant evaluations, doctors discovered a shadow on my liver.

This shadow had apparently been forming over many years and was about the size of a tennis ball. Additionally, my gallbladder was in poor condition, and I was advised to have it removed. Without giving it much thought, I asked, "Since I’m having surgery, can you also remove the shadow on my liver?" The doctors approved, and I was scheduled for liver and gallbladder surgery.

A Much Bigger Surgery Than Expected

Honestly, I didn't think liver issues were closely related to chronic illnesses like diabetes or kidney failure. On the day of the surgery, I was admitted to the hospital alone due to COVID-19 restrictions. I believed it would be a relatively simple procedure.

However, when I woke up, I felt tubes coming out of my abdomen, pain all over my body, and heard a nurse say, "The big surgery is over."

"Big surgery? How long did it take?" I asked.
"A little over five hours," they replied.

I was stunned.

Aside from a tonsillectomy when I was 20, I had never been hospitalized before. This was an entirely new and overwhelming experience. Back in my hospital room, I had tubes connected to my body from multiple places, and I was even given a pain relief button. The pain in my abdomen was excruciating.

 A Shocking Cancer Diagnosis

The next day, the doctors shared the results of the liver biopsy.
"It was cancer."

I was told there had been a tennis ball-sized tumor in my liver. My first thought was,
"How long do I have left to live...?"

What kind of treatment would I need? Chemotherapy? Radiation therapy? My mind was filled with anxiety.

But then, the doctor reassured me:

"The cancer was completely isolated within your liver, and there was no metastasis. Therefore, no further treatment is necessary."

Hearing that I didn't need treatment should have been a relief, yet I couldn't help but wonder, "Have they given up on me?" Still, I was grateful to be alive.

Sudden Knee Pain… and a Gout Diagnosis

Three days after the surgery, I began experiencing excruciating pain in my left knee. It was so severe that I couldn’t move at all.

I had undergone a ligament surgery on my left knee in the past, so I initially thought it might be related. However, the pain was unbearable. After being discharged from the hospital, I was rushed to the emergency room due to severe pain, where I was diagnosed with gout.

"Why am I getting gout now? I’ve never even thought about it before!"

It turned out that after the surgery, my failing kidneys were unable to properly remove toxins like uric acid from my body. These toxins accumulated in my knees and elbows, leading to gout.

 The Beginning of Dialysis

After receiving treatment for gout, I underwent dialysis for the first time.

My kidneys were already in poor condition, but I never imagined I would have to start dialysis while still hospitalized. Even after my gout treatment ended, I was informed that I would need regular dialysis sessions. I was scheduled to undergo dialysis twice a week at the Northwest Kidney Center.

And just like that, my dialysis life began.

A Downward Spiral of Chronic Illnesses

At this point, I had gone through diabetes, anemia, kidney failure, cancer, and dialysis—my health was steadily declining in the worst possible direction. And yet, I had no idea what I could do about it.

On top of that, because of my cancer diagnosis, I was informed that I would be removed from the kidney transplant list for at least two years.

From now on, I would have to continue my life on dialysis while undergoing liver cancer screenings every three months.

This routine is expected to continue until January 2025.

Kidney Transplant Record: Summary of the Past 10 Days

thread
Kidney Transplant Record: Su...
Kidney Transplant Record: Summary of the Past 10 Days

Starting from January 19, I underwent a kidney transplant. I want to reflect on these past 10 days for myself.

January 19: The Transplant Call and Hospital Admission
In the morning, I received a call from the hospital: “We have found a compatible kidney for you. Please come in for admission immediately.” I quickly canceled my scheduled business trip to Japan, including flights and hotel reservations, which was set for two days later. After completing my final 2.5-hour dialysis session, I arrived at Virginia Mason Hospital (Seattle) at 4:00 PM and began the admission process.

February 1: Surgery
The surgery was originally scheduled for 8:00 AM, but due to unstable blood levels, I had to undergo one last dialysis session. Around 3:00 PM, I was informed that the surgery would begin.

I remember lying on the operating table and receiving oxygen, but after that, I lost all memory. The next thing I knew, I woke up at 9:00 PM. A nurse greeted me with the words, “The surgery went well. Congratulations.”

February 2: From a Smooth Start to a Sudden Concern
When I woke up in the morning, I noticed that urine was continuously flowing through the catheter. I had no sensation of urinating on my own, but urine kept coming out of my body. I was also receiving IV fluids, and I was encouraged to drink plenty of water—2.5 to 3 liters per day. I was surprised, thinking, “Can I really drink that much?”

However, around 3:00 PM, urine suddenly stopped accumulating in the catheter. It completely stopped coming out. I became anxious, wondering if the kidney had stopped functioning. The nurses provided me with painkillers, and I waited to see how things would develop.

February 3: Identifying the Cause and Taking Action
Even in the morning, there was no urine output, and my abdomen felt extremely bloated. After conducting tests, the doctors confirmed that blood was flowing to the new kidney, but urine was not passing from the kidney to the bladder.

In the afternoon, they decided to examine the catheter inside my body using a camera. I underwent another procedure, and once again, I was unconscious on the operating table. When I woke up, urine had started flowing again. The kidney was alive.

February 4: Steady Recovery
The urine continued to flow, though it had a reddish tint, appearing mixed with blood. Despite this, I felt relieved knowing that urine was coming out. In the evening, the doctors decided to remove the catheter. After its removal, I had to use a urinal for the first time.

However, this resulted in an issue—I couldn't stop urinating. I had to use the urinal every 15 to 30 minutes throughout the night.

February 5: Discharge
By morning, everything seemed stable, though the frequent urination continued. Before discharge, I met with a pharmacist and a nutritionist who explained how to take my medications and manage my diet. I was shocked by the number of medications I had to take, but I understood that this was necessary for post-transplant life.

By around 7:30 PM, I left the hospital. However, I was constantly worried: "Will I make it home without needing to urinate?"

When I lay down in my bed at home, I realized that, unlike the hospital bed, my home bed was flat, which made my surgical wounds hurt more. The battle with frequent urination continued, requiring me to use the urinal every 15 minutes throughout the night.

February 6: First Full Day at Home
This was my first full day at home. The urination issue persisted, making it impossible to sleep properly. Still, I kept myself occupied by writing blog posts and updating my social media.

I didn’t have much appetite, likely because I was drinking so much water. I didn’t feel as hungry as before.

February 7: First Outpatient Visit
I went to the hospital for blood and urine tests, followed by a consultation with my doctor. The medications I was taking required adjustments to manage my blood pressure and blood sugar levels. However, the doctor who was supposed to prescribe new medications was out sick, so the next appointment was scheduled for February 10.

February 8: Some Progress
Despite ongoing sleep deprivation, I finally managed to sleep for about an hour in the morning. However, when I woke up, urinating was not as smooth, and I felt some discomfort in my abdomen. I noticed that my urine output in the morning was lower than usual, which made me anxious. All I could do was hope that my kidney continued to function properly.

Final Thoughts
These past 10 days have been all about dealing with urination. Time has felt both fast and slow at the same time. I feel the lack of exercise, but because of my frequent urination, I can’t go far from home. This morning, I walked about 800 steps around the house, pacing like an animal in a zoo.

I don’t know what will happen next, but I plan to take care of myself and not push too hard. I hope everyone reading this also takes care of their health and avoids going through something like this.

Cut what's not needed ... No more waist !!!

Cut what's not needed ... No ...
 What is USAID.GOV?

USAID (United States Agency for International Development) was a U.S. government agency that provided aid to developing countries. Its main roles included:

- Humanitarian Assistance - Emergency aid for regions affected by disasters and conflicts
- Economic Development - Support for poverty reduction and job creation
- Healthcare & Education - Improvements in public health and education support
- Promotion of Democracy - Assistance in political stability and human rights protection

Through these activities, USAID aimed to promote global stability and development.

 Annual Budget and Abolition

USAID's annual budget for the 2023 fiscal year was approximately $40 billion (about ¥6.6 trillion). This massive budget was fully funded by taxpayer money, yet there were frequent concerns about unclear expenditures and misalignments with U.S. national interests. As a result, the agency was effectively abolished on February 7, 2025.

Following this decision, nearly all of the more than 10,000 employees were laid off, leaving only about 300 staff members to handle remaining administrative tasks. Additionally, the official USAID website (USAID.GOV) was shut down and is no longer accessible.

Do Similar Tax-Funded Agencies Exist in Japan?

Could there be similar tax-dependent organizations in Japan? If vast amounts of taxpayer money are being allocated to unnecessary agencies, a reform similar to that of USAID may also be needed in Japan. Wouldn’t cutting such wasteful expenditures be a welcome change for the public?

Diabetes to Kidney Problem

thread
Diabetes to Kidney Problem
Here is the English translation of your blog entry:

Yesterday, I shared my story about being diagnosed with diabetes. Today, I’d like to talk about what happened next.

It had been quite some time since I was diagnosed with diabetes, and I believed I was managing it fairly well. However, one day while playing golf, I suddenly became short of breath. I felt dizzy and unsteady. At first, I thought maybe I hadn't eaten enough, but in reality, I was experiencing anemia.

Diabetes causing anemia? I had never heard of such a thing. I went to the hospital, but they couldn’t determine the cause. Eventually, they referred me to a nephrologist. That’s how I ended up visiting the BelleVue Kidney Center in Bellevue, where I met Dr. Phil King. He diagnosed my symptoms as early-stage anemia caused by kidney disease.

To manage the anemia, I started receiving injections of medication, similar to how I had been managing my diabetes. However, it was also at this point that I was told my kidney function was declining. From then on, I had to undergo monthly blood tests and kidney function assessments. By that time, my kidneys were probably functioning at less than 35% of their full capacity.

At one of my checkups, the doctor told me, “If this continues, you will eventually need dialysis.”

Seriously? That had never even crossed my mind. At that point, I didn’t fully understand what dialysis entailed. But one thing was clear—I didn’t want it. The idea of spending hours at the hospital for treatment was something I wanted to avoid at all costs.

So, I continued managing my condition by “tricking” my kidneys while relying on anemia medication. However, it goes without saying that I could no longer live as energetically as before. My kidney function gradually declined to the point where dialysis became inevitable.

Now, I’m beginning to accept the reality that I will eventually need dialysis.

My New Home Office

thread
My New Home Office
I've been setting up a home office over the past few days by purchasing various items from Amazon to create a productive work environment, making up for the time I can't be in the office. Today, the setup is finally complete with the arrival of a 28-inch Samsung monitor.

Here’s a picture of my new setup. The biggest change is switching from using my MacBook Air M4's built-in display to this larger external monitor, which has made navigating menus and working much more convenient. Instead of the built-in keyboard, I’m now using an Apple Bluetooth keyboard and a Bluetooth mouse, making the overall experience much more comfortable.

I've also adjusted the monitor settings to display eye-friendly colors, allowing for long working hours without strain. Once everything is properly set up, it naturally boosts my motivation. While I won’t be going to the office, I plan to do as much work as possible from home.

New Prescription ... New Like

thread
New Prescription ... New Like New Prescription ... New Like
As a result of the organ transplant, my previous medications are no longer needed, and I have to switch to new ones. I was already taking a lot of medication, but it looks like I will be taking even more from now on.

Since the surgery, my urine production has increased significantly, forcing me to go to the bathroom multiple times during the night. However, it's not just a simple process—I struggle to urinate, and it takes time and effort, which makes me feel like my strength is gradually being drained. Additionally, as of this morning, my weight has dropped by 5.352 kg compared to before the surgery. I haven’t been dieting, but my appetite has decreased, which might be the cause. However, if this continues, I might lose muscle mass as well, so I need to consciously ensure that I consume enough protein.

The road to recovery seems long, but I am determined to push through so that one day, I can look back and say, "I remember those tough times." Please support me as I work toward that day.

Also, ever since the surgery, I’ve had a sore throat and lost my voice. I was told that it’s due to the breathing tube inserted into my airway during the two surgeries. This has been quite tough as well, but I believe I will recover little by little.

How to Make Your Website More Widely Known

thread
How to Make Your Website M...
To make a website more widely known, it is essential to find a way to reach a large audience. When considering how to achieve this, what comes to mind? Advertising, perhaps?

There are various types of advertising, including traditional methods such as newspapers, TV, and radio, as well as modern online ads on platforms like Google, Yahoo!, YouTube, and Facebook. These online advertisements typically operate on a pay-per-click basis, where advertisers pay a fee for each click on their banner ads, directing users to their website. While this method incurs costs similar to traditional advertising, there is no guarantee that the results will directly translate into success.

The Shift Toward Organic Promotion
Recently, instead of spending money on advertisements, many businesses and individuals have taken a different approach—creating their own blogs, websites, social media accounts, or YouTube channels to promote their content. While this approach does not require direct advertising costs, it still demands significant time and effort.

In fact, some companies specialize in these services, offering content creation and promotion for a fee. However, outsourcing promotion may not always be the most exciting or cost-effective option.

Can You Do It All In-House?
I believe it is possible. My company is currently testing this approach. While the growth rate may not be as fast as paid advertising, it certainly delivers results. Since my company is not an advertising agency, I want to establish a system that enables us to offer this kind of support to our clients as well.

How my Diabetes Started.

thread
How my Diabetes Started.
Here is my photo from 20 years ago. Even now, I look at it and see how bloated I was. I was eating hamburgers, drinking Coca-Cola, drinking Gatorade, and working hard with love for what I did. Then one day, I started feeling extremely thirsty. My mouth was always dry, and I constantly needed something to drink. But water didn’t quench my thirst. I kept Coca-Cola and Gatorade next to my desk, drinking them frequently while working. On top of that, I could no longer eat spicy food at all.

I knew then—I had developed diabetes. So, I went to the hospital, and sure enough, the doctor confirmed it. My blood sugar level was over 350. I realized this was serious, but the doctor prescribed me Metformin, and once I started taking it, my thirst disappeared. It felt as if nothing had ever been wrong. As a result, I continued living the same unhealthy lifestyle while taking the medication. That was the beginning of my life with diabetes. Yet, at the time, I didn’t think of it as the beginning of a diabetic life.

If I had done something at this early stage, things might not have gotten progressively worse. But maybe that was my weakness. No, I don’t think it’s just me—when symptoms disappear, many people tend to believe everything is fine again. Looking back, I probably had other warning signs before reaching this point. But this was 20 years ago, and from here, it took another 15 years for the problems to reach my kidneys. This is the true danger of lifestyle diseases—you don’t feel the symptoms, yet they are silently damaging your body.

I don’t want anyone else to go through what I did. If you start experiencing even minor symptoms or if a doctor warns you that you are prediabetic, take it seriously. Control yourself, hold back, and do everything you can to avoid developing diabetes. But even if it seems difficult, it’s still not too late. Always keep it in mind—it’s a tough battle, but please do your best.

This is the story of how my life with diabetes began. I’m not a health advisor—in fact, I am the very definition of an unhealthy person. That’s why I am only sharing my own mistakes. I don’t want anyone else to make the same ones. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me anytime.

Be Healthy

thread
Be Healthy Be Healthy Be Healthy
I visited Virginia Mason Hospital for the first time since being discharged. As soon as I arrived, I went to the lab for blood and urine tests, then waited about 30 minutes for my doctor's appointment. The first thing the doctor said to me was, "Congratulations on your new kidney!" I’m still in recovery and haven’t fully grasped the feeling of celebration yet, but it’s definitely something to be grateful for. My kidney is working well—perhaps too well, as I keep running to the bathroom! But even that makes me happy. I can feel excess fluids leaving my body, and my hands even seem a bit wrinkled. But that’s a good thing.

I had been on dialysis for nearly three years, waiting for this day to come. It was impossible to know when it would happen, but as soon as I was told, the very next day, I was in surgery. Because of this, I had to cancel my business trips to Japan in February and April. It was a big expense, but that doesn’t bother me at all.

There are many people like me who were once told they were prediabetic, later developed diabetes, and eventually suffered kidney failure, requiring dialysis and, ultimately, a transplant. Looking back, if I had put in even one-tenth of the effort when I was first diagnosed as prediabetic, I might not have ended up here. Many people today are either prediabetic or have mild diabetes. People often associate diabetes with the risk of limb amputation, but the truly frightening part is how it silently damages vital organs like the kidneys. I was lucky to be given a second chance through a kidney transplant, but this is not something everyone gets.

I am not a health expert, but in a way, I might be an expert in chronic illness. I have experienced diabetes, kidney disease, dialysis, and now a kidney transplant. I sincerely hope that none of you ever have to go through the same thing. That’s why, if there is anything you can do to prevent it, please do. If you can reduce your alcohol intake even slightly or cut back on smoking, please do so. Your future self will thank you.

I never drank alcohol, and I didn’t eat many sweets, yet I still developed diabetes. It was likely due to consuming too many carbohydrates. I truly wish you all good health. Please take care of yourselves. And if you ever want to hear from a health expert, feel free to reach out anytime.

Isn't human great!

thread
Isn't human great!
During my recent kidney transplant, I had the opportunity to see my new kidney with my own eyes. It was about the size of a chicken breast. Looking at it, I thought, "This is a kidney, and it's about to become a part of my body." At that moment, I reflected on the dialysis treatments I had been undergoing due to my failing kidney.

Dialysis is a medical technology that partially replaces the kidney’s function by mechanically filtering the blood. Typically, it requires three sessions per week, each lasting four to five hours. The dialysis machine itself is about the size of two office copiers. Even with such a large device, it can only replicate a small fraction of what this tiny, chicken breast-sized kidney does naturally.

The human body is truly incredible. No matter how advanced AI or computer technology becomes, it still cannot fully replicate the complex functions of the human body. Nature’s power continues to amaze me.

I hope my new kidney functions well and keeps me healthy. Keep up the good work, kidney!

Ken Uchikura Newsletter Vol. 323 Pros and Cons of Using a Free Email Services for Business

thread
Ken Uchikura Newsletter Vol. ...

Pros and Cons of Using a Free Email Services for Business

If you use free email services like Gmail or Yahoo Mail for your small business, it could leave the following impressions:

Positive Impressions

  • Convenience and Efficiency
Free email services are widely recognized and easy to use. For small businesses, where speed and convenience often take priority, they can be seen as a practical choice.
  • Cost consciousness
Using free email demonstrates efforts to minimize expenses, which is often understandable for startups and individual entrepreneurs.

Negative Impressions

  • Lack of Professionalism
Free email accounts are commonly associated with personal use. When used for business, they may give the impression of lacking reliability or seriousness.
  • Weak Brand Presence
An email address with a custom domain (e.g., info@yourcompany.com) represents your business or brand. In contrast, free email accounts might fail to convey your brand’s identity, leaving an impression that your business is small or not formally established.
  • Security Concerns
Free email services are sometimes perceived as less secure. For businesses handling customer or confidential information, custom email accounts tend to inspire greater trust.
  • Risk of Being Flagged as Spam
Emails sent from free email addresses are more likely to get caught in spam filters, increasing the risk of delivery failure.

Tips for Professional Email Practices

  • Use a Custom Domain Email
Investing in a custom domain email address (e.g., contact@yourcompany.com) enhances your professional image. Although it involves a cost, it significantly improves trust and strengthens your brand identity.
  • Supplement Free Email Usage
You can use free email as a backup or for personal communication while relying on a custom domain email as your primary business address.
  • Start Simple with Reliable Hosting Services
By using hosting services like PSPINC, setting up a custom domain email becomes quick and easy. Our Dreamersi service is designed to be user-friendly and cost-effective, making it an excellent option for small businesses.
Conclusion
While free email services offer convenience, custom domain emails are preferable when it comes to business trustworthiness and professionalism. First impressions matter, especially when dealing with new clients, and a small investment in a professional email address can deliver significant returns.
