Why do companies, organizations, and sole proprietors have websites with their own domain names? Have you ever wondered why you need a unique domain name for your website? The answer is simple. It’s to drive awareness towards the existence of your company.

There are many ways to share information about your company. There are numerous social media platforms like Facebook, Yelp, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and many more to do just that. However, it’s hard to authenticate your company’s presence just on these platforms. It’s easy to create a page on any of these social networks. Anyone can do it, and they can do it for free. So, it’s unfortunately not clear proof that the company really exists just from social media profiles alone.

While Gmail is convenient, it goes without saying that it’s more trustworthy to use your domain name in your email. But it’s also useful to note that you can use your domain name for your email but still use Gmail to send and receive emails. PSPINC What's New Newsletter Vol. 87 "I want to use my domain for email."

Vol. 87

Many private businesses use Gmail to send and receive emails. Indeed, Gmail is accessible from all devices and has the advantage of being free and large. As I write this newsletter, I, Ken Uchikura, CEO of Pacific Software Publishing, Inc., also have a Gmail account for personal use instead of using a company email account. In addition to myself, many of our staff and managers also have Gmail accounts.

However, I don't think I can use Gmail to send out work-related e-mails to potential clients or vendors that I haven't gotten to know yet. It's not a problem with the way Gmail works. The problem is that Gmail can't identify the user, and there's no proof that the email address used in Gmail belongs to the company it says it does. So if there is a problem, you can't identify the person.

Gmail may be fine if you are buying and selling privately, but do you think it is a good idea to use Gmail if you are meeting with a company? The same is true if you are a sole proprietor. I believe that if you are going to work, you should at least have your domain name, and use that domain name to send and receive e-mails. If you have a domain name, you should also have a simple website to increase your credibility.
