Meaning what are you going to do in one or three years - what are you preparing for?

In my company, we are always working on new development for the future. We are constantly thinking and creating something that we have never done before. In many cases, we don't know if it will be successful, but we won’t know until we try it. Regardless, we are always working on the next project.

We aren’t always just thinking about innovations. There is also a constant push to make our current systems better, which is also a big challenge. Using Hashtags on Social Media

What are hashtags?

Let's start there - it is a word or phrase that begins with a hash/pound symbol (#). It is something you have undoubtedly seen, or maybe even used on social media.

But what is it for?

Great question! Hashtags are clickable links that allow one to categorize their content to make it discoverable. If you include a hashtag in your social media post, and somebody sees and clicks it - they will find other posts that also include that hashtag.

Tips for effective hashtag use

Make sure your account is public, otherwise people outside of your sphere of followers will not see your posts.

Use a mix of very common and more niche/specific hashtags on your posts. If you use only common hashtags, you are going to compete with a TON of other content, use only niche hashtags, and not enough people will ever find your post. Using a blend gives you the right balance, but make sure you...

Don’t use too many hashtags. Your posts will come across looking spammy, which isn’t great.

Research your hashtags! Twitter will actually show you which hashtags are trending, so if you see something that fits your post - include it. Instagram is a bit different, but if you search for a specific hashtag you can see how many people are using it to help you gauge its effectiveness.

Promote your business

Using hashtags allows you to possibly expand who sees your posts. It is a way to get more eyes on your posts/products/content outside of your existing followers.

Increased engagement

When you include a trending hashtag you are actively taking part in a popular conversation. This encourages others to respond to your posts, helping to make them more visible/popular, in turn - getting more eyes on your brand.

Support a cause

The ability to stay connected and help support those that are struggling is so important. Especially in the socially distanced pandemic life that we have all been living. You can use a hashtag to spread awareness and help others.

This is something we are actively doing right now with our Restaurants Are Back promotion. We wanted to support restaurants that are struggling due to the restrictions of Covid-19. One way we are doing this is by offering free and heavily discounted software solutions to restaurants. The other way we are doing this is by spreading awareness through the use of the hashtag #RestaurantsAreBack.

We are encouraging dining enthusiasts to post their dishes, include the hashtag #RestaurantsAreBack, as well as tag and/or mention the name of the restaurant they are getting their food from. Now people can use the hashtag to discover new restaurants and it allows the restaurants to get added exposure and generate more business!

How to backup your WordPress website

Your WordPress website consists of files, images, and a database. Your database contains all of the content within your website. This includes every post, every link, and every comment. If your database gets corrupted, you could lose everything without a backup. Backing up your WordPress website regularly will ensure peace of mind.

Automated WordPress Backup Plugins

To automatically backup your WordPress website, you will need to install a plugin. One highly rated plugin is the UpdraftPlus WordPress Backup Plugin. In your WordPress admin, click on Plugins -> Add New. Under search keyword, type in Updraft.

Click Install Now, then Activate. Once activated, you can find UpdraftPlus under Settings -> UpdraftPlus Backups.

The first thing you will want to do is to click on the Settings tab and set up your backup schedules. Weekly backups should suffice for most websites. However, if you make frequent daily updates, you may opt for daily backups.

By default, backups are saved locally for your website. You should choose a remote storage option so your backups are safe from drive crashes. Plus saving backups locally could fill up your disk quota for your website, giving you less space to work with. UpdraftPlus Backups let you choose from a wide selection of remote storage options. Select the option that works for you.

Manual Backups

We recommend that you make a manual backup prior to making a large update to your WordPress website. This way if you make a mistake, or installed a plugin/theme that breaks your website, you can easily revert your changes.

Click on Backup Now on the main UpdraftPlus page. If something happens after a large update, and you wish to revert your site to a prior state, select the backup you wish to restore to and click on Restore.

Tip: Upgrading your WordPress version and plugins is critical to maintaining security, but it does come with risks to what it does to your website’s look and functionality. Contact PSPinc if you want help updating your WordPress installation. We will test the upgrade in advance and take a backup of your website before we perform the upgrade.

PSPinc What’s New Newsletter Vol. 52 "Mail V5"

Dreamersi, the email hosting service of Pacific Software Publishing, Inc., is getting a new mail server. The mail server currently used for dreamersi.com hosting was originally developed as mail hosting software for Windows Server under the code name ST Mail. Since its initial release, it has been upgraded over time.

The next release of our mail software will be a POP/IMAP server developed from scratch by PSPinc on Linux OS. This version has been in development for more than two years. It has been tested and has operated as the mail server for PSPinc for the past year, and bugs have been fixed to make it more complete. We are now ready to release it as dreamersi.com's mail service.

As a multi-domain mail server running on Windows Server, ST Mail (which we have been using until now) is still several times more powerful than what other companies offer. Our new mail server has proven to have processing power and stability that surpasses it. We will continue to provide more stable services on Dreamersi - we hope you enjoy it!

Email V5 is the current code name, and we are still looking for a product name. If you have a good name, please let us know.
