This post is the prequel to that meal. Before I had the pulled pork sandwich I had an appetizer of their signature Blazer Wings! They seemed like must have when I saw that every table had a bottle of their in-house hot sauce for sale on it.
These wings did not disappoint. The sauce was savory, spicy, and sweet all rolled into 1. Served with some carrots, celery, and ranch dip - it is the perfect shareable appetizer.
First, this is right near the Seatac Airport, an area I don't normally associate with great dining experience. Second, this isn't a chain yet the entire operation looked very professional, clean and most importantly unique.
When you walk in you see they have whiskey barrels rotating as they are oak aging their own blend of bourbon whiskey. I was there for lunch so I didn't get a chance to sample that. Nevertheless I am sure I will be back soon to give it a taste.
For lunch I had the Kansas City "Pulled Pig" sandwich and french fries. The fries were seasoned and fried to perfection. It was a great blend of light and crispy. The sandwich itself was their pulled pork soaked in their homemade KC sauce. It was topped with coleslaw, fried onion strings, and mayonnaise and served on a delicious bun.
These ingredients sound extremely simple, but the way it was put together and the quality of the meat in question created an amazing sandwich. My only complaint (and a compliment at the same time) is that there was so much meat that it came spilling out the back. What is BBQ without getting your hands dirty, right?
I highly recommend checking out Sharps Roast House, and I am super excited to come back to see what other delicious meals they have on the menu!
It's really great, you choose your noodles, veggies, meats, sauce - and they fry it there for you on the spot! It's fantastic! When I do my stir fry I like to use 2 different kinds of noodles (thin and thick). I like to fry a fresh egg in it, with jalapeños, mushrooms, and a bit of chicken.
Unfortunately I found the chicken not very flavorful this time around. In the future I think I will request double sauce - which in this case was spicy garlic.
The 2 gyoza I grabbed from another tray at the buffet, I couldn't help myself they were so delicious!
A little tip, if you are doing the grill I recommend filling 2 plates and frying them together. You get more food and it is much quicker than going back for seconds!
Today's entry is on the Tom Kah (coconut chicken) soup. Full disclaimer, I don't consider soup a meal. It is a side/appetizer at best. That being said, the portion they give you at Thai Kitchen is pretty impressive.
This soup contains chicken and mushrooms cooked in a coconut broth. The number of mushrooms and chicken present give it almost a hearty appearance, which helps me as far as the perception of this being more than an appetizer. Within the soup you will also find galanga (of the ginger family), lime leaves, and lemon grass. It is topped with cilantro to add to the presentation.
Like the Panang Curry in part 1, this is a great Fall dish when the weather starts cooling down. The portion is perfect for sharing if you want to split this with somebody else and still order an entree, which I am likely to do on my next visit.

Which Thai Kitchen Alternative do you think looks the best?
Normally when I visit Thai Kitchen I stick with water. That is generally due to my love of all things spice. On a scale of 1-5 stars, I eat my food at a 5 star level. During this particular visit to Thai Kitchen I stuck to a more mild temperature for these dishes.
To wash down the epic flavors of Thai food, I decided to have a Thai Iced Tea. Not only is this drink a lovely orange color, but it is very refreshing. It may look rather creamy but like the Yum Neuh Beef Salad featured in part 2 - it was very light.
While I will continue to stick with water for the majority of my visits - a Thai Iced Tea is a nice change of pace when you want something different.
Today I will cover Yum Neuh Beef Salad. Please don't quote me that I have the name correct - I was calling it 'beef salad' while I ate it (how North American of me). Generally I associate rice noodles, rice, and curries with Thai cuisine. Not often do I think of ordering a salad.
I was glad to have tried this one out. It would make a great appetizer split amongst several people for sure. It was a light fragrant meal. A bed of romaine lettuce topped with tomatoes, cilantro, mint, lime juice, and smoked chili sauce - what a great way to start a meal.
While yesterday's dish isn't an alternative I would be adding to my rotation, this salad made a great shareable portion for the next time I am out eating with my wife. Well done Thai Kitchen!

Today's entry is Panang Beef Curry. Admittedly, when I do eat curry it is almost always Green Curry. I find the flavor of the curry and the combination of vegetables to be right up my alley. This one had a much more rich flavor in the curry itself. While I didn't love that the beef came in huge blocks (I prefer thinly sliced) it did have that 'melt in your mouth' quality as it fell apart with each bite.
Served with tomatoes and basil - it almost had a soup-like quality perfect for those chilly Fall days. While not my favorite, it was still an enjoyable dish and I was glad to have tried it.
On the last day of the convention I paid a visit to Specialty's. They make handcrafted sandwiches that are awesome and fresh. In fact, they even bake their own break on premises!
At a little over $5.00 I was hoping this would be one of the better sandwiches I have had. Boy, was I not disappointed! It was 2 sausage patties surrounding a huge chunk of egg, cheese, and amazingly flavored bread. The picture here only shows 1 HALF of the sandwich. It was an amazing amount of food so I would deem this a great value.
They have a number of locations in California, Washington, and a few in Chicago. If you find yourself in the neighborhood of a Specialty's - check it out. You won't be disappointed!
What kind of breakfast sandwhich do you prefer?
On a beautiful evening I was lucky enough to be able to eat this juicy medium rare filet mignon. It was served with prawns, rice pilaf, and green beans. The green beans were admittedly my least favorite part of this meal - yet still turned out really well.
While a glass of red wine would have paired very nicely with this lovely meal, I am more of a beer lover. Specifically, I love IPA's and they happened to have my favorite IPA on tap - Black Raven Trickster IPA. If you find yourself in western Washington, I recommend you checking it out. And if you enjoy golf and good food, the Aldarra Golf Club in Sammamish, WA is a great location.
