Cat fleas (the most common around homes) can jump up to 8 inches and as far as 19 inches. Relatively speaking a human would have to jump upward the length of a football field and forward about two and a half city blocks to match their athleticism. An adult flea can take as many as 15 blood meals a day and consume up to 15 times body weight.
Rat mites are tiny parasites that live on rats and inside their nests and feed off rat blood. But sometimes, when they can't find rats to infest, they resort to making a meal out of the blood of humans. They are capable of surviving for long periods without a host and they can travel several hundred feet from a rat or a rat's nest to find a new host. When they bite your skin they cause a dermatitis similar to bedbugs. You may notice raised, red, itchy bumps on a specific section of your skin. A similar problem exists with bird mites. Of course, the long-term solution is to eliminate rodent and bird nests. There are thousands of species of mites and some cause allergic reactions. If you need professional help give us a call.

It's GNARLY-TOOTHED, FOUR-LEGGED, BEADY-EYED, FUZZY-BELLIED SCURRIER - and, we have a lot of them in the Pacific Northwest.
While we have been trying very hard to capture a pink-eyed snout beetle and hold it still long enough to take a good picture it has been simply too fast for us - or anyone else for that matter. Hence, we commissioned a professional artist to render an artist description. Beware if you see the real thing.!
They claim the pink-eyed snout beetle is SO FAST it is almost impossible to take a picture. But, we will keep trying. We looked on the internet for something that seemed like what was described to us and this is the only thing that even came close. We'll keep trying so expect something closer to the real thing soon.
While we are working to provide our followers with a picture of the destructive pink-eyed snout beetle (they are so fast it's hard to catch one) we thought we'd show you a picture of an interesting weevil that is really quite attractive. As you know a snout beetle is technically a weevil. And, a weevil is technically a beetle (and so forth and so on). The metallic Eurhinus Magnificus does not have pink eyes, but it does have a long snout. And it is quite attractive actually. You are more likely to find it on a plant in Costa Rica than anywhere in the Pacific Northwest so don't worry about it - just enjoy it.
The US Census Bureau released the results of an American Housing Survey in June of this year and Seattle had the dubious honor of being the rattiest major city in American. The leader with the most mice was Philadelphia and the city with the most cockroaches was Tampa. New York City scored fairly high in all three categories.
