This month’s “Megumi’s Garden Lunch” menu was “Chikuwa mixed yakisoba.” The main ingredient of chikuwa is white fish. It is very popular food in Japan and good source of protein like meat. We enjoyed yummy yakisoba noodle with chikuwa.
Zo (Pre-K) and Kujira (K) students from Megumi Preschool joined the mini concert by Japanese rock singer and song writer Shinji Harada during Aki Matsuri held at Bellevue College last weekend. Students sang 2 songs with him on the stage. At the end of the stage, he sang his famous song “Candy” enthusiastically. His performance created by his voice and guitar was great! One of the students told us she could felt the stage was shaking with his voice.
Summer’s here nothing compared to the soaring temperature in Japan. None the less this year’s summer camp found a way to squeeze out every little bit of summer fun possible out of every day. This week, summer camp students held Summer Festival. On the day of the festival, the sky looked dark and the clouds looked heavy with rain. This did not stop the summer festival from being fun for every class that joined. Everyone danced energetically to the beat of a drum, there was even an omikoshi made by the kids, and before long it started to feel like a full of festival. As part of the festival, there were student run booths selling toys, accessories. Eating piping hot takoyaki and cool shaved ice was a huge treat for everyone.
This month's local dish was yaki-udon, stir-fried udon noodles with pork and vegetables, from Fukuoka prefecture. Yaki-udon was started about 60 years ago there, because one cook found udon noodles in his kitchen instead of yakisoba noodles. Our version of Yaki-Udon is very nutritious since it contains a lot of vegetables!
