日本では学生などがパートタイムで仕事をすることをアルバイト（またはバイト）と言います。実はこのアルバイトという言葉は Arbeit という仕事を表すドイツ語なのです。日本語ではこのようにいろいろな国の言葉を取り込んで日常的に使っているのです。
例えば男性がビジネスのときに着る「背広」ですが、元々は英語の Civil Clothes が日本語の語源と言われています。あと、経理で「簿記」は Book Keeping が元になった日本語だそうです。なんとなく発音が似ていませんか。
また、男っぽい女性（英語では tomboy）を日本語では「お転婆」と言います。これは実はオランダ語の Ontembaar が語源なのです。日本語は、非常にいろいろな国の言葉を取り入れて変化し続けているのです。
日本語の会話を聞いていると時々、分かる言葉も出てくるかもしれません。
ARUBAITO
In Japan, part-time work is called “arubaito” (or “baito”). The word “arubaito” came from the German word for Arbeit (work). In Japanese, we adopt words from various countries and use them on a daily basis.
For example, “sebiro”, which is men’s wear in business situations, is said to have originated in English from the phrase “civil clothes”. Also, in accounting, "boki" is said to be based on bookkeeping. Somehow the pronunciation between the two is similar.
Another example, a tomboy in English is called "otenba" in Japanese. This word actually comes from the Dutch word “ontembaar”. The Japanese language is evolving and creating new words every year.
Sometimes, when you are listening to a Japanese conversation, you may recognize some words as having originated in your country.
