Kenichi Uchikura is the founder and CEO of Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. (PSPINC), a technology company based in the Seattle area. Do you know Galapagos Island ... It developed its own species because the island was isolated from the rest of the world. That is exactly what happened to the cellular phone technologies in Japan. All Japanese cellular phones evolved technically but with no compatibility to the rest of the world.

Galapagos Keitai (Cellular Phone) = GalaKei

It is now being taken over by SmartPhones like iPhone and Android.
