Tanabata (Japanese Star Festiv...
July 7th was Tanabata. The kitchen staff’s Tanabata wish was that “all the children at Megumi can eat well and have lots of energy to play,” and with that in mind they made a special Tanabata dessert of jelly with mango inside cut into the shape of stars. What did everyone else wish for?

Field Trip

Field Trip
During the first week of July, the summer camp class and Zo class students went hiking at Saint Edward State Park. Despite the bad weather, they managed to get by without rain and enjoy hiking in the park. Perhaps it was because of the rain, but there were many slugs out and about. Everyone tried their best hiking, and they managed to make it all the way to a lake! All the children were hungry after walking so much and it was great to see them eating their pack lunches so happily. Everyone had a fun day in the great outdoors!

Making own Mitarashi Dango
Today at the Megumi Summer Camp we held a Tanabata (Japanese Star Festival) Party. Everyone made their own mitarashi dango and yomogi daifuku (Japanese traditional sweet rice treats). Many of the children dressed in jinbei and yukata (traditional Japanese summer clothes) and enjoyed the fruits and snacks that students’ parents brought in for everyone. It was a great summer event!

Make Your Own Bento Lunch!

thread
Make Your Own Bento Lunch!
Today was a last activity lunch for this school year. In Kujira (Kindergarten) class, students made their own bento lunch box. Kitchen staff prepared some rice, two kinds of checken dishes to choose from, vegetables, fried eggs, and furikake to sprinkle on top of rice. Everybody made well-balance lunch box to themselves. After they finished eating their bento, they enjoyed strawberry shortcake as for dessert. Happy graduation!

Field Trip to the Zoo

thread
Field Trip to the Zoo
Kujira class (Kinergarten)went to the zoo for their final field trip. Everyone was so excited when we all assembled, laughing and jumping about. In the zoo, they went in order to go see all the animals they had written reports about in class. It was cloudy and fairly cold outside, but in exchange it seemed like the animals were more active than usual. Zebras, elephants, giraffes, bears… Everyone was able to see in real life the animals they had learned about. And finally, the much awaited lunch time. Everyone had brought a delicious lunch and it seemed like they all really enjoyed eating together. After eating lunch, as everyone played on the grass the sun came out, and so we finally got a taste of good weather as well. Thank you so much to all the parents who came along as volunteers!

Father's Weeks
In celebration of Father’s Day, this June we held “Father’s Weeks” in Zo and Kuma classes at Bellevue Megumi, and were glad to have many fathers come in to class.
Several fathers spoke about their memories of childhood to the class. Another father brought a real semi-truck from his work place and showed it to the children. Other fathers showed everyone thier hidden skills like playing the piano and juggling.
And all of the fathers played with everyone a lot! The children all really enjoyed spending this time with each other’s fathers, thank you all so much for coming in!
