April 22nd is the Earth Day. We have been talking about the place we live, the earth. When we asked the children, “what do you think we can do for the earth?”, they said “getting along well with my friends” “don’t fight” “don’t play with fire.” They came up with ideas from a child’s point of view.
March 3rd is Japan’s Girls Day, a day dedicated to the health and happiness of girls. Today, Megumi kitchen staff arranged three colored rice dishes into a chirashi-sushi style served with fruit jelly. The children loved eating these sweets so it was a special lunch.
On Tuesday, February 7th, Seattle Megumi Preschool will be open at 9:30a.m. instead 7:30a.m.
Bellevue Megumi Preschool will be closed.
We had fall fruits and sweet potatoes during snack time. We ate apples and cut pears and sweet potatoes. It was a simple snack but the children enjoyed the seasonal taste.
Megumi purchased new commercial grade Taiyaki Grill from Japan. Megumi children loves home-made Taiyaki with sweet red beans. I also made vanilla custard and Matcha custard Taiyaki. We also served Takoyaki, shaved ice and Yakisoba as well during week of MATSURI at Bellevue Megumi.
We also build "YAGURA". The children enjoyed to BON Dance around the Yagura.
It's great opportunity to introduced "Traditional Japanese MATSURI".
We had a dentist come in to Megumi preschool last week. Why do we get cavities? She also taught us how to brush our teeth in order to not get cavities. We each got a brand new tooth brush and we learned to brush every nook and cranny as well as the back of every tooth in class! The kids all were so interested and listened to the dentist very well.
We had a guest teacher come to our class and talk to us about Taiwan culture. We talked about the climate over in Taiwan as well as the a little introduction of foods and traditional events. For the boys festival many people have necklaces that have smell in them. We made a necklace and it is known to repel insect and diseases. They have all kinds of food like fruits, rice cakes and shaved ice with many toppings which make it beautiful.
