Songs of Hope Japan Benefit Concert - Five Years after the Tohoku Earthquake
"Hand in Hand - Into the Future"
Songs of Hope will be holding the final annual benefit concert for the March 11 Earthquake and Tsunami back in 2011. Megumi students and graduate will participate in the concert as members of the childrens choir. Please send your thoughts and support their way with us.
We had a teacher talk about Korean culture. She introduced us to traditional New Year’s foods and games. We also learned that some of the games are like the traditional Japanese traditions like tops and kites. Children hit drums to the rhythms of the songs “Arirang” and traditional Japanese new year’s songs. In the end we dressed in Chimachogori and Pajichogori which are the traditional costumes. The costumes were colorful and beautiful and they caught the eyes of many of the kids.

Friday was the day that was long awaited for, the fire fighters and fire engine came to Megumi. Many of the kids have been waiting all morning to go see the truck outside. We were told about the clothing that is worn by the fire fighters and everyone had a serious face in the beginning. The kids were able to ask questions just as they learned “what is ____” the fire truck was out in the parking lot and the kids were so excited and couldn’t wait. They told us why they have things like a ladder and hose and even let us touch them. At the end we waved at the fire fighters and said thank you for coming, it became a really good experience for the kids.
