Gaia string quartet
Hana Hwon Kim,violin
Most recently holding the position of Assistant Principal Second Violin of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Hana Hwon Kim has performance and educational experiences around the world. Originally from South Korea, she moved to London, England to study with Simon Fischer and Yfrah Neaman at The Purcell School of Music at the age of thirteen. From London she continued her professional education at The Juilliard School in New York City where she earned both her Bachelor of Music and her Master of Music under the guidance of Ron Copes, Earl Carlyss and Robert Mann. Hana has also studied with Robert Lipsett earning a Professional Studies Certificate from the Colburn Conservatory. She has participated in music festivals including Aspen Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, Tanglewood Music Festival, Spoleto Festival in Italy, and has performed with many prominent musicians and conductors. Hana is a member of Strada Piano Trio based in Los Angeles, California.
Mie Oh, violin
Mie Oh was born in Ashiya, a city in the Hyogo prefecture of Japan. She studied at Nishinomya Music High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from Osaka Music University. In Japan she studied with Hirohide Kosugi, Noriko Murata, and Tomotada Soh, and toured Austria, Germany, Italy, and Korea as a youth orchestra member. Following the Kobe earthquake in 1995, Oh worked with the Pasona Corporation as a music coordinator and violinist for many concerts in the affected areas. In 2002, she moved to Los Angeles, where she continued her violin performance studies under Alice Shoenfeld and Linda Wang. Oh currently lives in Orange County, California, where she has performed in a variety of chamber orchestras, quartets, and a variety of concerts.
Hanna Jinnouchi, viola
Originally from Japan, Hanna has performance and educational experiences around the world. She earned her musical degrees from Doshisha Women’s College of Liberal Arts in Japan, Conservatoire National de Boulogne de Region and Conservatoire National Superieur de Paris in France. Her viola studies were with Simonne Fayrabond, Christophe Gauge, Heinrich Koll, Werner Hink, Christian Ivaldi, Philippe Muller and world renowned Bruno Pasquier. Hanna has won prizes from music festivals such as International Academy of Maurice Ravel and Festival Pablo Casals de Prades. She has also performed under the great Leonard Bernstein with the Pacific Music Festival. Hanna was a violist of Nagaokakyo Chamber Ensemble which won awards from Exxon Mobile Music and Music Critic Club.
Masahiro Miyagawa, cello
Masahiro began his cello studies at age 11, later switching his primary instrument to tuba. While studying the tuba at The Juilliard School in New York, nerve damage in his lower lip put a halt to his tuba career. He then reverted to the cello and was readmitted to the prestigious school. Masahiro’s musical studies were with Lorne Munroe, Barbara Stein Mallow, Peter Stumpf, Warren Deck and Abe Torchinsky. He has participated in Tanglewood and Aspen Music Festivals.
