Gifts from Japan
On the last trip, I went to several 100 Yen shops and purchase whole bunch of many things.
Other time I went to many convenience stores and bought about 70 Omusubi and brought them back to the US.
Those are my best choices for the fights from Japan.

酒 / Sake
You can drink it hot, warm, cold or room temperature.
It goes well with many Japanese dishes.
For while, people did not drink Sake. Instead they drank more beer and distilled drinks like 焼酎 Shochu and ウイスキー Wisky. But lately more people are drinking Sake due to the introduction and promotion of brands like 獺祭 Dassai and 十四代 Jyuyondai, high end sake.

Another meal that is not so common in Japan
I don't remember ever seeing Mediterranean place in Japan ... I am sure there is but there i snot so many.
One good thing is that Japan is getting ready for 2020 Olympics. So many of restaurants are staring to get ready for more international tourists. That includes more HALAL and KOSHER meals.
