Ramen is not an expensive food.

Negi Ramen
This picture is few years old ... It is in Asakusa, Tokyo
290 yen is an old price.
Here in the US, we often spend $10+ for a bowl of ramen. Plus tip and tax makes it $12 ~ $14. Of cause you can find some expensive ramen in Japan, but ramen in general are considered cheap and fast.

Some of the places I go, a bowl of Ramen starts 350 yen ... many places sell their base ramen for 500 yen.

Japanese Loves Western Culture and Foods

I do not know if Hooters was a good example of western foods in Japan.
Of cause when you go to Japan, you want to eat Japanese food. They are so good and much cheaper in Japan (usually). But if you really need to eat wester food, they are there as well.

This is not something you can find in Japan

Jimmy John's
You cannot find huge meals like in the USA in Japan. That might be one of the reasons people in Japan in general are smaller than the people in the US. In addition, people rely on the public transportation and do o drive as much in the cities in Japan. That contribute to more expertise.

Bullet Train ... Shinkansen 新幹線

There are three class of bullet trains between Tokyo and Osaka.

- Nozomi
- Hikari
- Kodama

Your Japan Rail Pass covers Hikari and Kodama but Nozomi is excluded. Nozomi covers Tokyo to Shin-Osaka (552.6km or 345 miles) in about 2 hours 30 minutes. Hikari takes about 3 hours (depending on the number of stops) and Kodama takes about 4 hours.

Most trains require you to have seat reservation. You should be able to get the reservation at any station.

I recommend you seat at the north side of the train for two reasons. Sun shines from the south most of the time and you need to lower your shade to block the sun. North side, you get to see Mt. Fuji ... if you are lucky.

Cleanness

When you go to Japan, one of the first things that you find there would be how clean the street is. Another thing that you notice would be ... where is the trash bin? (There is usual none.)

Do you know why there is not rash bin? Take a guess.
