日本で運転するときのために、知っておいていただきたいことをいくつかご紹介します。日本は英国と同じで道路の左側を走ります。運転席は車の右側にあり、ターンシグナルとワイパーのスイッチの位置もアメリカで売られている車とは反対になっています。
アメリカでは赤信号でも右折が許されていますが、日本でこれをやると信号無視になってしまいます。また、踏切の手前では必ず一旦停止をしなければいけません。速度表示はマイルではなくキロメール表示になっています。
ガソリンスタンドの多くはフルサービスで、セルフサービスはあまりありません。ガソリンスタンドに入るとスタッフが車を止める位置を指示してくれます。そして車を止めてエンジンを切って「レギュラー満タンにしてください。」とか「ハイオク30リットルお願いします。」という感じでお願いします。洗車中は車から降りて、待合室でコーヒーなどを飲むこともできます。

Driving in Japan
Here are a few things you should know if you have a chance to drive in Japan. In Japan, as in the UK, cars drive on the left side of the road. Therefore, the driver's seat is located on the right side of the car. The position of the turn signal and wiper switches are also opposite to the cars sold in the U.S.
In the U.S., you are allowed to turn right even when the light is red, but doing so in Japan will result in a ticket. Also, you must always pause at railroad crossings, and speed is displayed in kilometers instead of miles.
Most gas stations are full-service, and not many are self-service. As you enter a gas station, the staff will tell you where to park your car. When you get there, stop the car, turn off the engine, and say, "Please fill up the tank with regular" or "30 liters of high-octane gas, please." If you want to wash your car, you can do so at the car wash. While washing your car, you can get out and have a cup of coffee in the waiting room.
