米国のジョークは少し考えないとわからないことがありますが、わかると非常に面白いと思います。これは今の経済状況を風刺したジョークです。英語と日本語で書きます。

The economy is so bad that I got a pre-declined credit card in the mail.
景気が悪いのだろう、最初からデクラインされたクレジットカード届いた。


I ordered a burger at McDonald's, and the kid behind the counter asked, "Can you afford fries with that?"
マクドナルドでバーガーを注文したら、カウンターの向こうから「フライは買えますか？」と聞いてきた。

If the bank returns your check marked "Insufficient Funds," you have to call them and ask if they mean you or them .
銀行から「預金が足りない」とスタンプされた小切手が帰ってきた。銀行に電話して、預金が足りないのは小切手の発行者かそれとも銀行のことか尋ねた。

ビバリーヒルやマリブの家では、家政婦を解雇しはじめた。はじめて自分の子供達の名前を勉強しているそうだ。

The Mafia is laying off judges.
マフィアが裁判官をレイオフし始めた。

BP Oil laid off 25 Congressmen.
BP は、２５人の上院議員を解雇した。

Congress says they are looking into the Bernard Madoff scandal. Oh Great!! The guy who made $50 Billion disappear is being investigated by the people who made $1.5 Trillion disappear!
上院は、the Bernard Madoff スキャンダルを調査すると発表した。５兆ドルを紛失した人を１５０兆ドルを無駄にした上院が調査するのか・・・

最後に、色々なことを考えていたらすごく不安になって自殺したくなった。それではいけないと自殺ホットラインに電話をしたら、パキスタンのコールセンターにつながった。そこで、「自殺を考えている」と言ったら、相手は何故か興奮して「トラックは運転できるか？」と聞いてきた。

最後のジョークは、意味が分かりにくいかも知れませんね。わからなかったら聞いてください。写真はハリウッドにある COMDEY STORE です。
