ガソリン満タン

いつもはコストコでガソリンを入れるのだが、今日はコストコに行くヒマがないので近くのセーフウェイ（スーパーマーケット）が運営するガソリンスタンドで満タンにした。コストコと比較すると1ガロン２５セント高い。満タンで$3.65 高い計算になります。大きいな。

今日テキサスにいるスタッフにガソリン価格を確認したら $3.00 ぐらいということ、シアトルと $2.00 以上の差があります。何が違うのだろう。民主党（Democratic Party）と共和党（Republican Party）の州で価格の違いが顕著です。民主党はカーボンニュートラルを目指すためにガソリン消費を控えさせようとガソリンの価格が高いのでしょう。まるでタバコをやめさせようとタバコの価格を高くするのと同じです。

私の家では１台が EV で、もう一台がガソリン車。ちょい乗りには EV で良のですが、長距離に EV は使えません。ちょい乗りに最適な EV ですが、そのためにだけには値段が高すぎます。また最近よく EV を作るときに発生する炭素が多くて、EV = 脱炭素という公式にはならないと言われています。EV の方が炭素効率が良くなるためには 10万マイルならないと行けないという話ですよね。ちょい乗りで10万マイルは無理があるような気がします。

次の車何にしようかな？　EV はもういいです。

I usually fill up my gas at Costco, but today I didn't have the time to go there. Instead, I went to a nearby Safeway-operated gas station and filled up my tank. Comparing it to Costco, it was 25 cents more per gallon. It adds up to $3.65 for a full tank, which is quite significant.

Today, I asked my staff in Texas about gas prices, and they mentioned it's around $3.00. That's more than a $2.00 difference compared to Seattle. I wonder what causes this disparity. It appears that the price difference is more pronounced between Democratic and Republican states. It's possible that Democratic states, in their pursuit of carbon neutrality, are raising gas prices to discourage consumption, much like raising cigarette prices to discourage smoking.

In my household, we have one electric vehicle (EV) and another gas-powered vehicle. The EV is great for short trips, but it's not suitable for long distances. It's an ideal choice for short commutes, but the price seems excessive for that sole purpose. Additionally, there's a growing concern about the carbon footprint generated during the production of EVs, so they might not be a direct path to decarbonization as previously thought. It's been suggested that an EV becomes more carbon-efficient than traditional vehicles after driving over 100,000 miles. Achieving that on short trips seems challenging.

So, what should I consider for my next vehicle? I think I'm done with EVs.
