SPAM Filtering

thread
SPAM Filtering
We have developed SPAM and Virus filtering system, which we have installed in our hosting environment for last few weeks. We have intentionally set the detection level low to make sure it does not stamp any valid email as SPAM. We have been slowly increasing the security level of this software.

Yesterday, we may have increased the security level too much. We have two resellers reported that we filtered out too much email and they would like to know what we did. Well, to make it more transparent, we have decided to start a blog explaining what exactly we are doing. I will let you know the blog address as soon as it becomes available.

Harry Brelsford

thread
Harry Brelsford
Do you know Harry Brelsford?

For most people, the answer will be “NO”. However, for many people in IT industry, the answer will be similar to asking, “Do you know Arnold Palmer?” to golfers. He runs a company called SMB NATION. This company is the Mecca for Small Medium Business IT consultants who use Microsoft Solutions. Ask you IT companies of they know SMB NATION and Harry Brelsford.

He brought us gifts. The gifts are two of the latest book he wrote called Microsoft Response Point Prime and The Small Business Server 2008 Blueprint. You do not need to buy them unless you are an IT consultant. But for IT consultants, those books are like bible.

He told me he’d be post the picture on his FACEBOOK today. (Sh_t, I just closed my FACEBOOK account.) He is nice enough to visit us every time he comes to Seattle.)

Sending a large file over Internet

thread
Sending a large file over Inter...
If you have 1MB picture you want to send to your friend, you just email it.

What if you had 100 of those 1MB pictures that you want to send to your supplier in Boston, what do you do? How about sending 200MB CAD file you need to transfer to your branch in Hong Kong? Can your email handle that much load? How about email on the receiving end? Can they handle that?

The answer is most likely “No”. Then what are you going to do? Call your IT department to setup a file sharing option like FTP or Exchange Server?

There is a easy way to solve this. It is called MegaMAIL. MegaMAIL allows you to send large file or large amount of files to anyone with the email and browser. MegaMAIL is a server based application works like email software. This is a very cost effective and easy alternative than anything in the market.

PSPINC designed and developed this service and is hosted at secure PSPINC data center in Seattle. This link will take you to the free trial application page.

What time is it there???

thread
We have a service called ClockLink.com (http://www.clocklink.com/). This service enables you to select the clock from the library and place it on your blog or web page. This is the only free clock service that allows you to select the time zone and display the time based on the time zone of your choice.

We originally develop this service to use clock as a median to carry advertisement. Whenever a user moves the mouse cursor over the clock, the advertisement popup over the clock. When they click on the advertisement, they will be taken to the advertiser’s site. This is the idea behind ClockLink.com.

Here is the example of the clock that you can download from ClockLink.com.

Do you know how many times the clock like this is displayed on someone’s blog or web page everyday? Can you believe 26 million times? That is how popular ClockLink.com is. We can custom create a clock with your advertisement for your business and have it available from ClockLink.com.

For more information, please contact me directly. You can click on the clock above, you will be taken to ClockLink.com.

Cooling Pad for your Laptop

thread
Cooling Pad for your Laptop
Have you ever noticed that your laptop (notebook) computer gets hotter and hotter as you use it? Especially when you are running tasks like defragmentation and virus check. Unlike desktop computers, portable computers do not have strong fan to cool the system down.

I have purchased the cooling pad for my Macintosh at Costco last summer. It keeps my Mac cool to the touch. If you are using portable computer, you should consider buying one. It only costs around $20. My is Belkin and I think it is still available at Costco.

ANTI SPAM AND VIRUS --- Our Way!

thread
ANTI SPAM AND VIRUS --- Ou...
We have been using several SPAM filtering devices and software for our email hosting services. However, those devices and software are causing more problems than what they solve. They sometime could not handle the volume of email that we process. To improve our customer’s experience with our email hosting, we have decided to develop our own SPAM and Virus filtering system.

We have installed this new system in our network and having work along with other commercial SPAM and Virus filtering system. We will continue to use both systems until one we created is fine-tuned enough to handle all SPAM and Viruses. Our system is one of the fastest SPAM filter in the market (actually for our internal use only) and combined with the load balancing system that we created last year will make it most reliable as well.

Also to speed up the email processing, we have created our own SMTP server. SMTP server is a piece of software that process email and deliver to the mail server. The fastest SMTP server that we have tested on out server can process around 70 emails per second. Ours processed over 400 emails. We are now building SPAM filtering function into this SMTP server. Even with the SMTP server, we should be able to process over 60 email every second.

We provide Web & Email hosting for companies. But we are difference from other hosting companies because we provide Web and Email hosting service using our own software at our datacenter. We are software research and Development Company and that makes us unique.

SSD | Next Storage Device for Your PC.

thread
SSD | Next Storage Device for...
What is next in computer hardware technology?

No.1 thing that I would like to have for my computer is SSD. SSD stand for Solid State Drive. It is a replacement to hard disk drive. Instead of having the disk store data magnetically, SSD uses memory to store data. It is faster, more durable (because there is no moving parts), uses less power to operate but more expensive. It is a perfect storage for portable computers.

Right now you can get 256GB SSD for about $500 to $600. It is down from $5,000 just one year ago. Like any other computer hardware, the prices are going down fast. Just wait one more year; you will be able to purchase SSD for $1 per 1GB. The only problem is that you can buy hard disk storage for $0.10 per 1GB now.

Temporary Out

thread
Temporary Out
I received couple of messages on mu Linked In account. I logged in and saw my message and wrote a reply and hit [SEND]. Then it happened. Actually, nothing happened. About 10 seconds later, screen turned in to the image that you see on the top. The mail server is down at Linked In. I cannot send any mail.

It does not happen often, but it shows even the company like Linked In can get this kind of problem. I saw this happened to Gmail before. As a hosting company, I know what must be going on to recover this at Linked In. I do really can relate to that.
