ブランド

もう知らない人も少くはないと思うが、昔 Apple (当時 Apple Computer) はブランドを切り売りしていたことがあった。Apple Talk と言われた OS をライセンスして、Apple 以外のメーカーが Apple Talk を搭載したコンピュータを販売していた。また、Apple Computer のロゴもライセンスして、そのロゴを使った時計などが売られた時代があった。写真の時計は 1996年ごろ売りはじめられた AppleWatch で Apple 製ではないが、正式に Apple Computer のライセンスで作られたものだ。

ブランドを大切にする Apple としては考えられない事をしていたわけだ。ブランドを作ることは簡単ではない、だからことブランドを安売りしてはいけない。それが今日のメッセージだ。

ちなみに1996~1997 にかけてこの Apple Watch を日本に販売する権利をもらったのは Paocif Software Publishing, Inc. だった。たくさん売ったものだ。まだ、社内に新品の Aplle Watch が幾つか残っている。
