“寒椿”《襍木 ・/・古往今来259》


カンツバキ（寒椿） ツバキ科（Theaceae）
学名：Camellia ×hiemalis Nakai

サザンカの園芸種とか、ヤブツバキとサザンカとの雑種後代ともいわれる。
若枝や葉柄、葉の裏に毛があるが、サザンカより少ない。
葉は長さ2.5～6cmの長楕円形で先は尖り基部はくさび形。
葉の表面は光沢のある濃緑色で、縁には鈍い鋸歯がある。花は桃紅色の八重で直径7～9cm。花弁は大小14～18個あり、先端が浅く裂け、縁は波打つ。
冬の寒い時期に咲く貴重な花！！
花が丸ごと落ちるのがツバキで、
花びらが一枚一枚散るのがサザンカと教わった！！
