How Illness Changed My Perspective

It’s been five months since my surgery. I went into the hospital the day after Russia launched its attack on Ukraine, so it’s been five months since then as well. The Ukrainian convergence is far from over. For my recovery, I’ve set a goal of walking a mile every day as part of my post-surgery rehabilitation. I’m amazed at the power of human resilience when I think about how much progress I’ve made since last March. At that point, I found it hard to even go to the bathroom, let alone walk a mile.

However, I’m afraid that if I hadn’t done anything, I still wouldn’t be able to move. Thankfully, I can walk now. But there were many times when I thought I would never get out of bed. Those who knew me at the time may have thought that I may not be able to walk or live a normal life again. That’s why I continue to walk and exercise. Even if I have to push myself a little harder every day. That way, I can be a little stronger than the day before.

When recovering, I slept at home. Therefore, I didn’t have time to think about my company because I was so busy taking care of myself. I attended internal company meetings via Zoom, but I couldn’t afford it at the time. However, I started thinking more about the company as I gradually got better. At first, I attended Zoom meetings while lying in bed. Then, I improved and started sitting up in bed and then on a chair. Eventually, I could come to work for a few hours at the office.

Now, I can come to the office almost every day. I spend every day wanting to be better than the day before. All of this was possible because I wanted to be able to move on my own as possible and I didn’t want to be a nuisance. Next, I’ll try flying out to San Diego for a business trip. Then, Japan. Everything will come to an end one day, but that day is not today. I now want to live, learn, and work as healthily and physically fit as possible. I’ve never been happy about being sick, but it gave me a chance to change my way of thinking. Moving forward, I’ll work a little harder. This is my soliloquy. Thank you for reading until the end. I wish you all the best and good health.
