DepaChika = Depa (Department Store) Chika (Basement)

The basement of all major department stores are dedicated to food items. I went out to eat last night around 6:30pm but ended up being at DepaChika. They had after 6:00pm sale which most items are marked down.

I bought all those thing at DepaChina at 390yen each. I bought too much, I can't even eat half of them. I had more this morning, but I still have some left. When you visit Japan, visit department store after 6:00pm.

Look what happens when you access MACY'S web site from Japan. It says they will ship anything to Japan and the prices are fixed in Yen. How cool is that.

When I visit japan, I eat at Kaiten Sushi at least once. I had sushi for lunch today. Each plate, regardless what is on it is 105 yen which is about $1.20. What a deal.

FRANK MULLER WATCH

thread
FRANK MULLER WATCH
I saw this watch yesterday at Costco. It remind me if an incident few years ago. Mayumi went to China and met the graphics design company owned by an American. All the designers were Chinese and they seem to do a very good job.

We asked them to design a clock for http://www.clocklink.com as a sample. They came up with few good designs which we liked. So, we were getting ready to use them. Mayumi came to Japan and happen to walk in front of the watch store were she saw an exact same design. That was this Frank Muller watch.

It turned out Chinese designers did not design but just copied the existing designs. We learned quickly "Copyright" does not mean anything.

When we told the owner about this, he was not very happy ...

Costco Japan

thread
Costco Japan
I went to Costco Amagasaki in Japan today. They are one of the success business stories by the US companies in Japan. Although the business concept is the same between the US and Japan, Costco did amazing amount of localization to fit Japanese market.

The total opposite is the US Auto Manufacturers in Japan. They are still selling left hand steering cars in Japan where people drove on the left side like UK.
