民宿すぎもとさんは、常神半島の先端の集落「常神」にあります。
常神は天然の良港で、集落名は延喜式にも記載のある若狭「常」社からと思われます。
昔は陸路は困難でしたが、日本海航路（北前船）時代には殷賑を極めてと予想されます。
常神半島には小川・遊子・神子などの集落と港がありますが、常神が最も懐が深く、この良港ゆえに寄港地として栄えたと予想します。
常神社はその港の一番奥の高台にあります・・・・
