What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

thread
What is Search Engine Optimiza...
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving your website to increase visibility in search engines, especially when people search for the products you sell, the services you provide, and/or the content you provide expertise on. As a website owner, especially those who double their website as their digital storefront, SEO is vital in driving organic traffic toward your website. Especially since organic search accounts for 53% of all website traffic, according to BrightEdge.

Types of SEO

Technical SEO: Refers to optimizing the technical aspects of a website, which includes making sure search engines can crawl and index your website.

On-Site SEO: Refers to optimizing website content for users and search engines, which ensures the content is relevant to users’ search queries and minimizes the chance of users bouncing off your page.

Off-Site SEO: Refers to activities that won’t directly impact your search engine ranking in the technical sense, but still indirectly contribute to your site’s SEO success.

How SEO Works

internet concept

Many different factors go into how SEO works, but what it really goes down to is using what we know about how search engines work to your advantage. Generally, we see traditional search engines like Google’s technical processes in four stages:

  1. Crawling: Search engines crawl web pages by using sitemaps and following links.
  2. Rendering: Search engines look at a web page’s HTML, JavaScript, and CSS information to render how the page will look.
  3. Indexing: Search engines analyze web page data like the content and metadata and index them by adding that information to a database.
  4. Ranking: Search engines rank web pages using their complex algorithms to determine whether a page is relevant to a searcher’s query.

Every website needs good SEO to succeed, which comes from a combination of good web design and quality website content. That’s exactly why we created our new website content creation packages, designed specifically to help small businesses develop strategically optimized content to grow their business. Paired with one of our custom web design packages, it’s never been easier to optimize your website for search engines.
