What’s New Newsletter Vol. 216 “Staying Safe Online”

thread
What’s New News...
Everyone spends so much time online that the number of online accounts and passwords can be overwhelming. As cybersecurity concerns continue to rise, experts recommend we have a different password for every account and add two-factor authentication (2FA) to make them even more secure. But committing all those passwords to memory is too hard to do and writing them all down on a Word document somewhere is just not secure. So, what’s the solution? A password manager.

We created Pass Wizard as a simple and inexpensive way to keep users’ online accounts secure. With a focus on security and a secure password generator, it couldn’t be easier to protect your online data. Just sign up for free or sign up for the Pro account, giving you access to more features and a bigger password storage. Get started today.

Pass Wizard OS Upgrade Announcement

thread
Pass Wizard OS Upgrade Anno...
We’re happy to announce that we’re upgrading our operating system (OS) for our password manager, Pass Wizard. We’re upgrading our OS from Cent OS7 to Alma Linux 8 since there will no longer be technical support for Cent OS7 after June 30, 2024, and we continue striving towards making sure our password manager is the safest it can be. With this new upgrade, it will help patch any vulnerabilities to defend users against cyber threats.

However, updating the Pass Wizard OS will result in about 15 minutes of downtime, so we thought you should know ahead of time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Update details

Before: Cent OS7
After: Alma Linux 8

This server upgrade will occur on:

*USA Pacific Daylight Time
- March 6 (Wednesday) 6:00-6:30am

*Japan Time
- March 6 (Wednesday) 11:00-11:30pm

If you have any questions about these changes or require more assistance, please email us at contact@pspinc.com or call us toll-free at 1-800-232-3989.

Dreamersi Mail V5: New In-Email Spam Reporting Feature!

thread
Dreamersi Mail V5: New In-E...
We’re happy to announce that Dreamersi, our premiere web and email hosting service, now has a new feature! We will now display an in-email warning for any incoming email that looks suspicious but isn’t caught by the spam filter.

screenshot of new in-email spam reporting feature
When you report an email as spam, it will lead you to a page where:

in-email spam email
·         The message removal option is checked by default
·         You can choose to add the sender to your personal spam filter

When you report an email as not spam (“Looks okay”), it will lead you to a page where:

report email as not spam
·    You can click on the “Submit” button to report the email as not spam to help our spam filter system improve its accuracy

In both instances, you’ll also receive a “Thank you for your report” page and a Thank you email.

The 'Report Spam Banner' option is also turned off by default, so unless you manually go in to turn it on, you won't see the report banner. To turn it on, go to 'Spam Filter Settings' and select 'On' in the 'Report spam banner' option at the bottom. Then click 'Save' and you will then see the banner the next time you receive an email that may look like spam.

AI-Generated Search Engines: Bing Chat vs. Google Bard

thread
AI-Generated Search Engines: ...
After Bing announced they’d integrate the AI-generated chatbot, ChatGPT, Google announced their own rival chatbot, Bard. Since then, Google opened access to Bard via a waitlist (much like Bing) in late March. Unsurprisingly, now that users have access to both, it begs the question of which one is better. In the search engine game, Google has always been the clear winner, with about 93% of the global search-engine market compared to Bing’s meager 3%, according to Statcounter

Now that Bing’s leveraging Bing Chat (their AI-powered assistant), Google may lose some of its longstanding power over the search engine market. Since releasing Bing Chat, there are now 100 million daily active Bing users, one-third of whom are using Bing Chat daily, according to Microsoft Bing Blogs as of early March. With that is also over 100 million recorded chats, according to Search Engine Journal. Both still insist they’re in their learning phase as Bing and Google figure out any major bugs and as they optimize each system. So, while both have their fair share of limitations and bugs, we’ll see that change as OpenAI (the company behind ChatGPT), Bing, and Google all work to improve their respective chatbots.

Differences Between Bing Chat and Google Bard

black samsung tablet display google browser on screen

While Bing Chat and Google Bard are both AI-generated, they’re distinctly different because while Bing uses the popular chatbot, ChatGPT, Google uses a LaMDA model, which results in less text-heavy responses. But it’s important to point out that Bing Chat and ChatGPT are not the same; Bing just uses the GPT-4 technology. The biggest difference between Bing Chat and ChatGPT is the fact that Bing Chat can generate images and offer sources that their AI is generating data from.

But so far, users who have tried both prefer Bing Chat over Google Bard. Google, however, hasn’t been out for nearly as long, so Bard is still in the early phases of optimizing the overall experience of the AI chatbot. Bing Chat, however, has the advantage of ChatGPT’s GPT-4 technology, which users have already proven to like, which we’ve seen from ChatGPT’s overall popularity. But regardless, one thing is clear: AI chatbots are here to stay. And we can only assume the technology will continue to grow as experts learn more about how to better optimize them.

What’s New Newsletter Vol. 151 “Email File Size Limits”

thread
What’s New News...
One of the most frustrating parts of email is when you click send, and it tells you your file attachment is too big. Emails limit file sizes mainly for security reasons. Email file size limits prevent users from bombarding the server with large emails. And that would cause it to stop working altogether. But from a business perspective, it also allows companies to create free and paid tiers with different prices and size limits. Generally, the more a customer pays, the more space they get.

To solve this problem, users usually attach the file as a link, a feature many major email clients like Gmail offer. But it creates an extra step where users view the file online, sometimes as a different file type, rather than just opening it. And depending on the file type, viewing it in a browser may undesirably alter the format. That’s why we created MegaMail, which lets users send or transfer large files to anyone. The best part is that it won’t change the file type and you can even add a password to the file, which would only allow those with a password to access it. Sign up for MegaMail to get started.

What’s New Newsletter Vol. 150 “The Restaurant Industry”

thread
What’s New News...
The restaurant industry today has changed drastically due to the Covid-19 pandemic. For a while, restaurants only offered delivery and takeout options. For restaurants that didn’t try to do either, they simply didn’t make it. Putting together a digital menu and adding ordering capabilities can be a long and expensive process for a small business. But making sure potential customers know what a restaurant offers is an important step in the customer journey for restaurants. After all, people won’t buy from your restaurant if they don’t know what you’re selling.

People can always call in to ask, but most people aren’t willing to do that. Especially after seeing your competitors. The pandemic changed the dine-in experience as well. Physical menus, while they still exist, aren’t utilized as much anymore. Instead, many restaurants place a QR code menu on the tables where users can scan in with their camera phones to see the menu. It provides customers with a much more sanitary and convenient experience. For restaurant owners, it also helps cut down servers’ workload, as they’re able to turn over tables faster. With ImaMenu, you can create digital menus for free and easily update menu items based on rotating specials and/or availability. Sign up for free to get started.
