How to get people to listen to you

I write this newsletter based on my own experiences and thoughts, not because I know what people want to hear. Therefore, there are many times when I write about things that may not be of interest to you. If there is a subject you would like to hear about, please let me know.

Today's topic is about how to get people to listen to what you have to say. For example, if you ask me to talk about the entertainment industry, I don't know enough to understand it. Nor do I have the desire or interest to learn more about the entertainment industry. Therefore, if you talk to me about it, you’ll find that I’m not listening to you at all.

This is natural. No one pretends to listen when someone talks about something they’re not interested in. They just aren’t listening. So, let's talk about how to get people to listen to you. First of all, there is no point in talking about something the other person isn’t interested in. Instead of forcing them to listen to you, you should keep the conversation as short as possible.

However, even if they’re not interested in the topic, it’s possible to make it seem interesting to the other person. To do this, you adjust the way you talk based on how the other person reacts. But you need to know the other person in order to do this effectively. So, listening as much as possible and letting the other person talk is important. Then, you can understand them and use that knowledge to better engage with them when you speak. If you say what you want to say without keeping the other person’s reaction in mind, they won’t listen to you.

If you want people to listen to you, listen to them first.
