PSPINC What's New Newsletter Vol. 99 "Authenticating companies with domain names"

thread
PSPINC What's New Newslette...
Why do companies, organizations, and sole proprietors have websites with their own domain names? Have you ever wondered why you need a unique domain name for your website? The answer is simple. It’s to drive awareness towards the existence of your company.

There are many ways to share information about your company. There are numerous social media platforms like Facebook, Yelp, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and many more to do just that. However, it’s hard to authenticate your company’s presence just on these platforms. It’s easy to create a page on any of these social networks. Anyone can do it, and they can do it for free. So, it’s unfortunately not clear proof that the company really exists just from social media profiles alone.

A domain name, on the other hand, belongs to the company or organization that registered it. No one else can have it because of that. Additionally, SSL certification guarantees the company’s existence while also encrypting communications. To authenticate the information you have on Facebook, Yelp, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and any other platforms you use, you’ll need to operate a website with your own domain name. So, naturally, you should also run your email on the same domain.

While Gmail is convenient, it goes without saying that it’s more trustworthy to use your domain name in your email. But it’s also useful to note that you can use your domain name for your email but still use Gmail to send and receive emails. If you have any questions about getting a domain name and creating a website, please contact Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. at any time.

5 Benefits of Social Media For Your Business

thread
5 Benefits of Social Media For...
Most of us have seen and used social media. If you are reading this article that is almost a certainty. We use it to share vacation photos, life updates, birthdays, anniversaries, cat photos, etc. However, there is a business application for social media. If you aren’t considering the benefits of social media for your business, you may be short changing yourself.

Today we are talking about 5 benefits of using social media for your business - let’s get started!

Smiling business woman

Make human connections with your customers

In most cases, your website is there to present information for your customer. From there, they will make an independent decision based on what you are offering. Unlike a traditional brick and mortar store, you have limited opportunities to engage with your customers.

By using social media, you have the opportunity to converse with your customers in comments and direct messages. In many cases this will allow you to offer superior customer support and really let your customers get to know you.

Woman with megaphone

Bring attention to your brand

The more spaces that users see your brand, the more they will grow to know and trust it. Using your brand identity (both visually and written) repetitiously over time will help customers keep your business in mind when they need it.

However, be careful not to overdo it. Your posts should seem organic, helpful, and entertaining. Simply advertising your products and services on a daily basis won’t likely lead to the brand recognition you are looking for.

Woman leading a meeting

Present yourself as a knowledgeable industry leader

Social media is a fantastic space to present yourself as a leader of your field. Share tips, industry studies, etc. to not just sell yourself, but actively help your customers.

For more long form content you can share links to blog posts. Not only will you help your customers, but you will drive more traffic to your website through your blog. Which is a fantastic opportunity to encourage them to click around and see what you have to offer.

Busy road with traffic

Increase traffic to your website

We just touched on it, but driving website traffic is super important. Whether it is through blog posts, direct links to products you have on sale, etc.

Make sure you are tracking website traffic with Google Analytics so you can directly observe where your referral traffic is coming from. This will help you in determining which social media platforms are the most effective for your target demographic. Allowing you to focus on what works to best grow your business.

Shopping cart next to monitor

Generate leads and potential sales

The ultimate goal of any business is to make sales and generate revenue. Social media is a great way to communicate directly with your customers, or those considering becoming a customer. If you are running a sale or special event, you can provide links or details on those as well.

It’s a fantastic way to capture leads, and potentially generate more sales. Making social media a fantastic sales tool to help grow your business.

If you have yet to set up the necessary social media accounts, or you have neglected focusing on it, you may want to consider revisiting it again. With such a large segment of your customers likely on social media, it’s a tool that is worth paying attention to.

If you have any additional questions, need help getting started, or want to level up your social efforts - please let us know. We can be reached by email or you can call us toll-free at 1-800-232-3989.

PSPINC What's New Newsletter Vol.78 "DENREI Project"

thread
PSPINC What's New Newslette...
Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. has developed a new social communication tool called DENREI. This system will be available as part of our beta release soon. In this newsletter, I would like to briefly introduce this system.

DENREI is the Japanese word for messenger. However, this is not a messaging application or system like WhatsApp or Line. When you register with DENREI, an email address of xxxxxxxx@denrei.com will be created. This is an email address that only the registrant has, and you can set it up in your current mailer application to use as an email account. However, this email account can only send emails to other @denrei.com accounts.

Over on denrei.com, you will see currently registered users to whom you can subscribe if you are interested in receiving their communications. Once your subscription is approved, you can email each other using your @denrei.com email accounts. You can think of this as a closed email connection - this is where denrei.com comes in.

When you send an email to your own @denrei.com email account, the content will be emailed to all of your DENREI followers. This is the same as publishing a newsletter. Of course, the followers who receive your email can reply to the communication. In this case, the email will only be sent to the DENREI user who performed the initial broadcast and not to every other follower.

Think of DENREI as an email-based social network. Since it is email-based, we, the system administrators, are not able to ban or censor the content. Also, messages will not be delivered to non-subscribers. It is truly a system for delivering messages as a messenger. This is an unprecedented Internet system, but we believe it is similar to the way messages are delivered in the real world.

It is currently free to apply to join this invite-only community. Once we receive your application we will issue you a signup link. So please try it out and let us know what you think.

PSPINC What's New Newsletter Vol.74 "DENREI"

thread
PSPINC What's New Newslette...
Vol. 74

We are currently developing a system called DENREI at Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. DENREI is an email-based social media platform. I’m sure you don't understand what I'm talking about. I'd like to start by telling you what social media is.

The job of the media is to communicate your ideas and information to others. Social media is an easy way to communicate information to people who are interested in what you have to say. Social media in general refers to systems like Twitter and Facebook. These systems use a browser-based website or an App on your phone as a means of communicating information.

The current problem is that the companies running these services are censoring information as if they are publishers, not media. There have been many instances of deleting users' posts and revoking users' access rights. The first of these major problems is that anyone can see what a user posts. You can specify that you don't want to see it, but that can be a pain in the ass.

DENREI is not a social media service like Twitter or Facebook, where anyone can see what you post at any time. Creating an account with DENREI means having an @DENREI.COM email address. Only people with an @DENREI.COM account will be able to read the information you send out via email. Of course, @DENREI.COM users can freely exchange emails with each other.

You can't send emails to @DENREI.COM from any email address other than @DENREI.COM. If you want DENREI to send email to your subscribers, just send an email from your @DENREI.COM address to your @DENREI.COM address.

This is an overview of DENREI. More information will be released soon, and we hope you will join us for the beta test.

PSPINC What's New Newsletter Vol. 72 "How do you deal with bad reviews?"

thread
PSPINC What's New Newslette...
Vol. 72

The Internet has surpassed media such as television and newspapers in terms of being seen by many people. It has become commonplace to use social media and other mediums to promote a company. When you use social media in this way, you have to understand that it is not a one-way platform like TV or traditional print material.

What I mean by that is with social media, not only the sender but also the receiver can write comments and evaluations. Naturally, some of the comments and feedback are positive (favorable), but there is also negative (unfavorable). Naturally, you would want to erase the bad comments. However, there is no value in a social media platform that can erase all bad reviews. Social media is a place to create opportunities for those who send out information to improve if there is room for improvement.

Often, the first response to a bad review or a problem is to defend oneself: "That's not true,” or "We don't have a problem.” This is the same as deleting bad reviews, which can cause what is often called "flaming." When a flare-up occurs, the story expands to something completely different from the facts, this should never happen.

If you receive a bad review, the right thing to do is to apologize to the other person. Even if you did what you thought was correct, if you made the other person feel bad, the proper way of handling it is to apologize. After that, it is necessary to conduct an actual investigation to clarify what went wrong. Even if it turns out to be a misunderstanding on the part of the other party, don't just say, "That's it.”

I believe that bad publicity is not always a bad thing. If you are in business, it is very difficult to be liked by all people. Try to understand where the other person is coming from, and think about how to respond in a way that is understandable to them and you, so that a response will not cause a flame war.

Using Hashtags on Social Media

thread
Using Hashtags on Social Media

What are hashtags?

Let's start there - it is a word or phrase that begins with a hash/pound symbol (#). It is something you have undoubtedly seen, or maybe even used on social media.

But what is it for?

Great question! Hashtags are clickable links that allow one to categorize their content to make it discoverable. If you include a hashtag in your social media post, and somebody sees and clicks it - they will find other posts that also include that hashtag.

Tips for effective hashtag use

  • Make sure your account is public, otherwise people outside of your sphere of followers will not see your posts.

  • Use a mix of very common and more niche/specific hashtags on your posts. If you use only common hashtags, you are going to compete with a TON of other content, use only niche hashtags, and not enough people will ever find your post. Using a blend gives you the right balance, but make sure you...

  • Don’t use too many hashtags. Your posts will come across looking spammy, which isn’t great.

  • Research your hashtags! Twitter will actually show you which hashtags are trending, so if you see something that fits your post - include it. Instagram is a bit different, but if you search for a specific hashtag you can see how many people are using it to help you gauge its effectiveness.

Social media engagement

Why you should use hashtags

Promote your business

Using hashtags allows you to possibly expand who sees your posts. It is a way to get more eyes on your posts/products/content outside of your existing followers.

Increased engagement

When you include a trending hashtag you are actively taking part in a popular conversation. This encourages others to respond to your posts, helping to make them more visible/popular, in turn - getting more eyes on your brand.

Support a cause

The ability to stay connected and help support those that are struggling is so important. Especially in the socially distanced pandemic life that we have all been living. You can use a hashtag to spread awareness and help others.

This is something we are actively doing right now with our Restaurants Are Back promotion. We wanted to support restaurants that are struggling due to the restrictions of Covid-19. One way we are doing this is by offering free and heavily discounted software solutions to restaurants. The other way we are doing this is by spreading awareness through the use of the hashtag #RestaurantsAreBack.
Woman eating pizza
We are encouraging dining enthusiasts to post their dishes, include the hashtag #RestaurantsAreBack, as well as tag and/or mention the name of the restaurant they are getting their food from. Now people can use the hashtag to discover new restaurants and it allows the restaurants to get added exposure and generate more business!

Do you have any questions?

If you have any questions or comments about hashtags, please contact us. And for more information on Restaurants Are Back you can visit our informational site, or search the hashtag on Twitter or Instagram!
If you are using the hashtag #RestaurantsAreBack, share your post with us! We would love to see what delicious food you are eating and shout you out for supporting a good cause!

4 Marketing Tips That DON’T Work

thread
4 Marketing Tip...
1. Posting as Frequently as Possible

This is a common marketing tip – “post often and consistently so your followers are constantly seeing your content.” At one point, this was a legitimate marketing tactic that worked for the most part. But now, users and social media platforms are more sophisticated – they promote and engage with QUALITY content, not quantity.

Instead, focus on creating quality content with a purpose and focus less on the quantity of posts.

2. Posting the Same Content Across Platforms

It’s SO easy to link your social media platforms with services like Hootsuite that it seems wrong not to. But, posting the same content on all your platforms can be repetitive and can bore your audience. And many people follow social media platforms for different reasons, so what works for one may not be the right message for another.

Try to think of the types of content that people like to see on each platform and create content to geared toward that audience. For example, users might follow your Twitter for quick updates, so posting long content on Twitter might have a negative effect.

3. Hashtagging Everything

How will users find my content if I don’t #hashtag everything? Yes, hashtags are a great way to organize similar content and find similar posts, but it can also be harmful. Users tend to find content with minimal or no hashtags.

Instead of trying to figure out the perfect hashtags to boost your posts, focus on creating content that answers a question, solves a problem, or brings value to end users. If you create content that is good enough to be shared by users and therefore reaches more people, you know you’re doing it right.

4. Optimizing for SEO

SEO is still very important, and so are long-tail keywords.

But, writing a blog post or creating a new page on your website that is ONLY optimized for SEO is a mistake. Stuffing your text with keywords will only make your content less relevant and ultimately rank lower.

Instead, focus on creating good quality content that again answers a question, solves a problem, or brings value to its readers. Quality content will naturally rank higher on search and social platforms.
