雲の流れと車の流れ

本日のシアトル地方の日の入りは4時15分。
その時の北西の空の模様をどうぞ。
ご覧の通りに太陽の光が全く見えません。

はるか数キロ先の上空では黒い雨雲に覆われていて、
そこから滝のように降り注ぐ水の塊が、カーテンのように黒く地表に伸びているのが何カ所も見届けられます。

私のいる上空では比較的明るい空でも、あちらの方角は黒い雨雲に覆われているという現象を何度も目にしました。

また雪が降るときには、まず第一にEverret南部に降るとか、決まったパタンがあるようです。

ここシアトル地方は湖や入江が複雑に絡みあっていて山も多いために、少し距離が離れると気象が異なるし、その推移にも提携型があるように感じます。

天候から話が変わって、車の流れについてです。

高速5号線を南下すると、タコマまで通常なら40分ほどです。
現在の夕刻ならその倍ほどはかかるはずです。
ピュージェットサンド広域で、最も渋滞が激しい路線ですし。

ところがコロナのおかげで交通量はめっきり減っていて、高速道路上が駐車場になるほどの渋滞はここ最近ありません。

それでも渋滞を避けるため夕食を終えて夜の9時ごろに出かけようかと思います。

A few kilometers away, the sky was covered with black rain clouds.
You can see the water cascading down from it in many places, stretching out like a black curtain to the surface.

I've seen this phenomenon many times, where the sky above me is relatively bright, but in that direction it is covered with black rain clouds.

Also, when it snows, it seems to have a certain pattern, like it falls first in the southern part of Everett.

Here in the Seattle area, there are many lakes, inlets, and mountains, so the weather varies depending on the location where you are.

Changing the subject from weather, let's talk about the flow of cars.

Going south on Interstate 5, it usually takes about 40 minutes to get to Tacoma.
On a current evening, it should take about twice that.
And it's the most congested route in the greater Puget Sound area.

However, thanks to Corona, the traffic has not been bad down considerably, and we haven't had any traffic jams lately that turned the highway into a parking lot.

Still, I think I'll go out around 9 p.m. after dinner to avoid the traffic completely.
