春分の日を越え、
夏時間が始まり、
来週はいよいよイースター(復活節)を迎えます。
明るい陽光の注ぐ庭先で、
ほんの1時だけ青く澄み切った弥生の空の下、
桜の木をバックに
魔女のお姉さんが桜の踊りを披露してくれました。

Under the clear blue sky of March for just a moment, my witch sister performed a cherry blossom dance with a cherry tree in the background.
ここ数ヶ月間で初めてオリンピック山脈が全容を現してくれました。数百マイルも遠く離れている山容が、ここまでくっきり見える事は冬季には珍しいことです。
この日の午後になると、シアトルの空には薄い雲が再び広がり、再び山山はそれに隠れてしまいました。
遠い世界の気象を私たち人間はコントロールできません。
パンデミックに対応する政府や企業の施策にも、1個人としてはそれに翻弄せざるを得ないでしょう。
シアトルと日本を結ぶ航空便では、JALがこの3月で運行再開を始めました。しかし以前のような毎日就航ではなく、週に3回ほどの直行便での運行再開です。
ANAでは通常運行再開は来月中旬まで待たねばならないようです。
本日、神奈川県知事を東京都知事が欺くような形で緊急事態宣言の延長を決めたとかの報道に接しました。
私たちは遠い世界への力は及びませんが、すぐ近くにいる人たちと楽しんじゃえば良いんですよね。
今日も踊りのお姉さんは、着物を着こなし、お琴を演奏しながら私どもを迎えてくれました。夕食まで振る舞ってくれてありがとさまです。
彼らが夕食準備をしている時でした。私が満身の力を込めても、ある瓶のスクリューキャップを開けることができないことがありました。
脳の血管がブチ切れる位に満身の筋肉を使ったのです。お姉さんがその瓶を取り上げた時は、彼女にできるわけないと、皆さんもわかっていただけるでしょう。
しかしお姉さんは難なくと蓋を開けてしまったのです。
やはり魔女だった。

娘の日本舞踊の師匠は、地域の日系コミュニティー新聞から先日、インタビューを受けたことをお話しくださいました。
彼女の亡きお父様は、平川唯一さんと言われ、「カムカム・エブリバディー」のブロードキャスターだったのです。
それは、大戦後の混乱期を生きた人には良く知られているラジオ英語教育番組のようです。
インターネットはもちろんテレビもなかった当時、ラジオが唯一の公共放送で、人々は英語学習のために毎日15分間、平川さんが教える生の英語放送を楽しみにしていたようです。食糧事情にも乏しかった当時の娯楽でもあり、また明日への希望を与える英語教育として親しまれていたそうです。
戦後の1945年から10年間続いた人気ラジオ番組でした。平均視聴率が22%と言いますから、驚異的な数値です。
日本では、この秋から朝のNHK連続ドラマ番組でこの平川さんとその家族の物語が取り上げられる事となりました。
踊りの師匠であるメリー先生は、そのラジオ放送が始まったほとんど同時期の45年の11月に平川家にお生まれになっています。
さらに、これはよく知られていないことなのですが、平川氏は、天皇が終戦を国民に告げた玉音放送を英訳されました。その上で全世界に向けてこれをラジオ放送したのだそうです。
これらの彼女の家庭のことが、連続ドラマではどれほど取り上げられるでしょうか。
我が家にはテレビは無いのですが、この朝ドラ放送のためにテレビとTVJapan放送を準備しないといけないかなぁ、なんて思っています。
My daughter's Japanese dance teacher told us about a recent interview she had with the local Nikkei community newspaper.
Her late father, known as Hirakawa, was a broadcaster on “Come Come Everybody”.
It seems to be a radio English education program well known to those who lived through the confusion of the post-war period.
At that time, when there was no television, let alone the Internet, radio was the only public broadcasting system, and people looked forward to the daily 15-minute live English broadcasts taught by Mr. Hirakawa to learn English. In those days, when food was scarce, the radio was a source of entertainment, and it was also a popular source of English education that gave people hope for tomorrow.
It was a popular radio program that lasted for 10 years after the war, starting in 1945. The average listening rating was 22%, which is an astounding figure.
In Japan, the story of Ms. Hirakawa and her family will be featured in a morning drama series on NHK starting this fall.
Ms. Mary, the master of the dance, was born in the Hirakawa family in November of 1945, almost the same time the radio broadcast started.
Another little known fact is that Mr. Hirakawa translated the Emperor's announcement of the end of the war into English. He then broadcasted it to the whole world on the radio.
I wonder how much of these things about her family will be covered in the drama series.
I don't have a TV at home, but I'm thinking that I should prepare a TV and TVJapan for this morning drama broadcast.

トトロに会いに行って来ました。
魔女の住む家の一部屋がトトロために聖別されていました。
生まれてから3週間の男の子だそうです。
人間と同じものを食べてとても幸せそう。
大人になれば60キロから100キロほどに成長するそうです。
トイレのことが気になりましたが、「とても賢い」とのことで既にトイレ・トレーニングを終えたそうです。
その鳴き声を日本語では「ブーブー」といますが、英語では「オインク オインク」ですね。英語の方がより現実に近いように感じました。

He will grow from 60 to 100 kilograms when he becomes an adult.
I was worried about his toilet, but she said he was "very smart" and had already finished his toilet training.

今日は我が娘が持っていた知られざるもう一つ魔力を発見しました。
彼女はいつの間に覚えたのか、マッサージを取得してたのです。
本格的なマッサージテーブルまで用意してあり、今日は初めて施術してもらいました。
私自身がマッサージを受けることが生まれて初めてだったからでしょうか。彼女の力強い指や拳で押される背中がくすぐったくてなりません。耐えられずに何度も背中をねじ曲げて抵抗しました。
息子も同様にくすぐったさを耐えられない様子。
こうして2人してその直前にカヤッキングで疲労した腕や背中、両足をほぐしてもらいました。
その施術後は血行も良て軽やかな感じです。
これは病みつきとなりそうです。
魔女のお姉さん、今後も老体ケアをよろしく。
I discovered an another unknown magical power that my daughter possessed today.
I don't know when she learned it, but she has acquired a massage.
She even has a full-fledged massage table, and today was the first time she was given a massage.
Perhaps it was because it was the first time in my life that I myself had received a massage. I couldn't help but be tickled by her powerful fingers and fists pressing on my back. I couldn't stand it and resisted by twisting my back several times.
My son seemed to be unable to bear the tickling as well.
Thus, we both had our arms, legs, feet and backs relaxed after the exhausting kayaking session just before.
After the treatment, my blood circulation was good and I felt light.
I think I'm going to be addicted to this.
Witch sister, please continue to take care of my old body.
本日からなでしこのお姉さんは「お江戸日本橋」のお稽古に入りました。
日本橋から東海道を上って京都にまで至る、53次の宿場町の様子が唄に詠われています。
その旅人の姿が踊りで表現されるところが見ていて楽しいです。
さらにお姉さんは先週仕入れたばかりのお琴を師匠の前で演奏披露しました。
やがて日本の伝統楽器であるお琴、三味線、尺八なども使いこなすようになるかと思います。
我が子がここまでなでしこ道に精進しているのに、私はそれを横目で見ているだけで良いのだろうか？
そんなことを考えながら帰宅後に湖のほとりに立ちました。
すると、そのすぐ側にあの魔女さんも現れたのです。
しかも今回はあの笛を吹きだすではありませんか。
今日は冷たい強風が吹く寒い日なのです。
ピンチです。
いやはや今日のその笛の音色は、カヤックで漕ぎ出すように命じるものでした。
そこで私は笛の奏でる魔術に抗うこともできないまま、カヤックを漕ぎ出しました。湖上からは空の一画に虹がかかっているのが見えます。
魔女のお姉さんが笛を吹き続け、さらに歌い始めると、
いよいよその魔力が空にも及んだようです。
途切れていた虹が見事に結びついて、地表から地表に至る半円をつくり始めたのです。しかも7つの色がくっきりと現れ始めました。
寒中水泳で達成感を得て満足するよりも、この偉大な自然美に魅せられた方が無難な生き方と言うものです。
魔女のお姉さん、ありがとう。
Today, the Nadeshiko started to practice "Oedo Nihonbashi".
The song is about the 53 inn towns along the Tokaido highway from Nihonbashi to Kyoto.
It was fun to see how the dancer expressed the travelers.
She also played the koto, which she had just bought last week, in front of the master.
I'm sure that she will soon be able to use traditional Japanese instruments such as the koto, shamisen, and shakuhachi.
I wondered if it was all right for me to just watch from the side as my daughter devoted herself to Nadeshiko-do.
Thinking about this, I stood by the lake after returning home.
Then, the witch appeared right beside me.
And this time, she started blowing her flute.
It's a cold day with a strong wind.
I'm in a pinch......
However, The sound of the flute today was like a command to paddle out in a kayak.
So, unable to resist the magic of the flute, I set off in my kayak. From the lake, I could see a rainbow in the sky.
The witch's sister kept blowing her flute and even started singing.
It seemed that the magic had finally reached the sky.
The rainbows, which had been interrupted before her blowing, began to come together to form a semicircle from the surface of the earth to the other side of the earth. Moreover, the seven colors began to appear clearly.
It's a safer way of life to be enchanted by this great natural beauty than to be satisfied with a sense of accomplishment from swimming in the cold.

今日も魔女は踊りのお姉さんの着物姿で迎えてくれました。
いつの間にかお琴を探し出しては取り寄せていて、すでにその練習を始めています。誰からも教わったことがないのに音を聞き分けながら踊りの教室で習った曲を弾いていました。
踊りの師匠からは、明日の稽古から新しい曲目「お江戸日本橋」を始めると伺っています。
そこで夕食後、これからその曲の歌詞の漢字や意味を特訓するところです。
東海道五十三次の出発地点日本橋から京都へ向かう宿場町の様子が歌われています。私の地元の保土ヶ谷も出てくるなど、楽しいこと、懐かしいこといっぱいです。
Today, the pretty witch welcomed me again in the kimono as a dancing sister.
Before I knew it, she had found and ordered a koto and had already started practicing on it. She was playing the songs she had learned in the dance class, distinguishing the sounds even though no one had ever taught her.
The dance master told us that tomorrow's practice would be the start of a new piece, "Oedo Nihonbashi".
So after dinner, we are going to practice the kanji characters and meanings of the lyrics of the song.
The song is about a town on the way to Kyoto from Nihonbashi, the starting point of the Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido.
Hodogaya, my hometown, also appears in the song, and so there are many fun and nostalgic things in the song.
今日の天気は変わりやすかった。
雲間からわずかにお日様が照っているのを見つけ急いで靴を履いてひなたぼっこをしようとした時、再び雲間に隠れてしまったり、、、
今やこの時期、日光浴びるのは高価な医薬品を手にするような貴重な営みです。鬱にならないためにしっかりとセロトニンを生成しなくてはなりません。
ここ1ヵ月間ほど謎の故障で使えなくなっていたプリンター。
今日も作動しなければ新しく買うしかないと決意を固めてそのプリンターをひっくり返していろいろと調査。
「トレイに用紙がしっかり設置されていない」とのエラーメッセージ。
どれだけマシンをひっくり返して調べても異常が見つからない。
試しにもう一度作動させたところ、見事に印字に成功。
お天気屋さんがここにもいたようです。
とにかくプリンターが使えるようになってうれしかった。

My printer has been mysteriously malfunctioning for about a month now.
Determined to buy a new one if it doesn't work today, I turn the printer over and investigate.
An error message that said, "Paper is not seated in the tray.
No matter how many times I turned the machine over, I couldn't find anything wrong.
I turned the machine on again to try it out, and it printed successfully.
It seems that the weather man was here too.
Anyway, I was happy to be able to use the printer again.
気がつけば、なでしこ道特訓の日がまたもや来ていました。
この日娘は日ごろから熱心に指導してくださっている師匠に日本語での感謝状を渡しました。曰く、
「これからもなでしこへの道を精進して行きます」
この言葉に違わず、熱心な生徒と師匠との切磋琢磨する稽古が始まりました。
この日は高校生になったばかりの新人も来ていて、入門2ヶ月にしかならない娘が既に先輩の立場に。
張りつめた緊張の1時間の稽古は瞬く間に過ぎて行きます。
この日師匠のメリー先生は朝9時から午後4時まで6コマの授業を1人で教えられます。ランチ休憩も取らずに70歳を遥かに超える方が、どこからかのような精力的なパワーを得ているのでしょうか。彼女こそ西洋文化にも通じながら、なでしこ道を極めた国宝的な存在です。
娘らがこうしてなでしこ道へ精進している時、私はそれを眺めているだけでいいのだろうか。
そんなことを考えながら帰宅後、湖畔立った時でした。
その時娘もその場に居合わせたのですが、例の魔女の笛を持っていなかったのです。
おお、危ない、危ない。
もしあの笛を吹かれていたら魔術に取り付かれるまま、体は動き出し、踊りだし、湖へ突き落とされていたことでしょう。
そうしたら覚醒しアドレナリンが放出してしまい、その後の昼寝は実現しなかったはずです。
日本の東北に住む友人方は日曜日の礼拝を前にして、皆さん雪かきに精を出していらっしゃるとの事。ご苦労様でございます。
こちらではストレスフリーの、ゆっくりまったりした時間を楽しませていただいています。
I realized that the day of Nadeshiko-do special training had come again today.
On this day, my daughter gave a letter of appreciation in Japanese to her teacher who has been teaching her diligently. She said,
I will continue to devote myself to becoming a Nadeshiko.
True to these words, the friendly competition between the enthusiastic students and the master began.
On this day, there was a newcomer who had just entered high school, and my daughter, who had only been in the class for two months, was already in the position of a senior.
The tense hour-long practice went by in the blink of an eye.
On this day, Mary-sensei, the master, taught six classes from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. by herself. I wondered where she got such energetic power for someone who is well over 70 years old without taking a lunch break. She is a national treasure who has mastered the way of Nadeshiko, while also being familiar with Western culture.
I wonder if I should just watch my daughter as they devote themselves to the Nadeshiko Way.
It was while I was standing by the lake after returning home, thinking about such things.
My daughter was also there, but she didn't have her witch's flute with her.
Oh, watch out, watch out.
If she had blown that flute, I would have been possessed by the magic, my body would have started moving and dancing, and I would have been thrown into the lake.
Then I would have been awakened and my adrenaline would have kicked in and I would not have been able to take a nap afterwards.
My friends in Tohoku, Japan are shoveling the snow before the Sunday service. Thank you for your hard work.
I'm enjoying a stress-free and relaxing time here.
