I think playing golf in Japan is much more formal. Some courses ask you to wear Jacket when you arrive at the course. Some courses do not allow shorts unless you wear knee high socks.
Also, you do not play 18 holes through. You play 9 holes and have lunch at the club house before you start your back 9. This enables the courses to have more people play as they let people start on both front and back 9 holes.
Also, you do not usually carry your own bags. They are either set on the cart and have one caddy.
