It was pain full. I am still having little difficult time walking today but I will try my best to put one mile in.

Ken Uchikura Newsletter Vol. 192 My Thoughts on Sales Jobs

thread
Ken Uchikura Newsletter Vol. ...

My Thoughts on Sales Jobs

I’ve been thinking lately about job postings. When I post non-technical sales jobs, many people are interested in marketing, social media, and public relations (PR) positions. But sales and marketing positions don’t seem to attract anyone. I think this may be because many people don’t understand what sales and marketing entail. I think it’s also because my ideas about sales and marketing differ from some other employers.

When selling products and services, we must remember that the internet exists now. Consumers, as well as companies, no longer do business the traditional way of talking to and ordering from a salesperson. Now, people can easily get product information on the internet, and they’ll already know what they want to buy. Therefore, product descriptions, as well as user reviews, are very helpful. Once consumers do their research online, read the reviews, and decide which product they want to buy, they can then compare prices. And in most cases, they’ll buy the cheapest offering.

Doesn’t this make you feel like salespeople are unnecessary? Online information gathering has indeed replaced a lot of what salespeople do. But is that all there is to sales? I believe salespeople still have several roles:

1. Provide customers with ideas they haven’t thought of before

The internet can be great for research. But customers can be singular-minded in what they’re looking for. In other words, I believe sales can provide ideas on what else they might want or need. Especially ones that they haven’t thought of before.

2. Sell trust, not products

On the internet, you can easily find product information as well as reviews, which will tell you how good or bad a product is to some extent. The same goes for information about the company. However, customers want to gain a sense of trust in the company. And I think they want it from people, not the internet.

Sales is the point of contact between the company and the customer, which isn’t utilized as much today. Therefore, I believe salespeople are the ones who can convey the desire to take care of customers. In a job description, it’s difficult to convey, but the decrease in contact points between the customer and company only makes salespeople that much more valuable now. Marketing is important, but sales is crucial in building relationships with customers.

It is too warm to walk a mile outside today. Instead, I went to IKEA and parked far away from the store and walked to the store and walked inside the IKEA. I was able to put in my mile today indoor. Nice.

July 29, Friday.

thread
It's nice to be able to come t... It's nice to be able to come to work.
This is an end of business day on July.
Time passes so fast it is unbelievable.

Because of the surgery and recovering from it, I feel like I have done very little work this year. I have to take it up. I have walked over a mile for almost 2 month. I exercise everyday trying to gain back the strength. I am b=getting there. I worked out at home yesterday and over stretched my knee yesterday, so I have a hard time walking today. I have to make up my lack of walking by doing more stationary exercise today.

At this point, all my focus has been being better than than the day before. I will try to do that. I just wish the weather is little more cooler but I should not complain about the things that I have no control. I will focus n what I can control.

One Mile Walk on Hot Days

thread
One Mile Walk on Hot Days
I thought it will be great idea to walk a mile before it gets too warm. So, I started my walk just before 10 am ... I did my one mile and back in the office now. It was already very warm out. I sat on the massage chair for 30 minutes before I got back to my office. I should do my walk early in the morning.

Ken Uchikura Newsletter Vol. 191 How Illness Changed My Perspective

thread
Ken Uchikura Newsletter Vol. ...

How Illness Changed My Perspective

It’s been five months since my surgery. I went into the hospital the day after Russia launched its attack on Ukraine, so it’s been five months since then as well. The Ukrainian convergence is far from over. For my recovery, I’ve set a goal of walking a mile every day as part of my post-surgery rehabilitation. I’m amazed at the power of human resilience when I think about how much progress I’ve made since last March. At that point, I found it hard to even go to the bathroom, let alone walk a mile.

However, I’m afraid that if I hadn’t done anything, I still wouldn’t be able to move. Thankfully, I can walk now. But there were many times when I thought I would never get out of bed. Those who knew me at the time may have thought that I may not be able to walk or live a normal life again. That’s why I continue to walk and exercise. Even if I have to push myself a little harder every day. That way, I can be a little stronger than the day before.

When recovering, I slept at home. Therefore, I didn’t have time to think about my company because I was so busy taking care of myself. I attended internal company meetings via Zoom, but I couldn’t afford it at the time. However, I started thinking more about the company as I gradually got better. At first, I attended Zoom meetings while lying in bed. Then, I improved and started sitting up in bed and then on a chair. Eventually, I could come to work for a few hours at the office.

Now, I can come to the office almost every day. I spend every day wanting to be better than the day before. All of this was possible because I wanted to be able to move on my own as possible and I didn’t want to be a nuisance. Next, I’ll try flying out to San Diego for a business trip. Then, Japan. Everything will come to an end one day, but that day is not today. I now want to live, learn, and work as healthily and physically fit as possible. I’ve never been happy about being sick, but it gave me a chance to change my way of thinking. Moving forward, I’ll work a little harder. This is my soliloquy. Thank you for reading until the end. I wish you all the best and good health.
