The corner where 28month old baby died last week is now full of flowers. It is a tragedy that the baby does, but it is amazing to see so much flower there. People cares. There is some hope.

Have a Good Weekend

thread

I have been hearing and seeing many sad things starting with Aurora Bridge Accident, Bellevue Car Accident and Shooting in Oregon Community College.

I heard this song when I came to the US to work 30 years ago and I thought this country is the best country in the world. Despite all the bad and sad news, I still believe this is the greatest country in the world. This song just make me feel good. I hope this song will make you feel better too.

Have a great weekend!

I drove 405 from Bellevue to Lynnwood and I watched how new toll HOV lanes are used (or not used). It was great to see they added one more lane without shrinking down the regular lanes. But, looking at it, they could kept the HOV to one lane and add one more lane to general purpose lanes. at just after 2:00pm 405 north was already congested.

Tipping

thread
Tipping Tipping Are you ready for some footba... Are you ready for some football?
Do you always tip after the service?
I sometime tip before the service is performed.
I left a tip in my car when I went to car wash before they start cleaning inside the car.
I tip the same amount anyway, but by tipping before, I think you get better service.

What do you think?

Something You Might Find Interesting

thread
Something You Might Find Inter...
In Japanese culture, "Services (サービス)" are considered something you don't have to pay for. Other words, if you use the word "Service" as a verb in Japanese, you are asking for something for free.

For instance, restaurant sign says "Drink Service" … It means, drinks are free provided you buy a meal. You can also say "Can you do this as a service?" That means, what you are asking is "Can you do this for free."

Why is that?

Well, in Japanese culture. good service is something you expect and is included in the price. Also, service often does not include physical item (labor is not an item in Japanese culture), and people do not pay for something you cannot see or touch.

This may be one of the reasons why you don't tip in Japan. So, be careful when you use the service in Japan. They may interpret it as something you give for free.
