POMPOM & I

thread
POMPOM & I
PSPINC is a dog friendly company. At any given days, there are at least three dogs running around. Well, actually they sleep almost all day.

There is my dog POMPOM. I took this picture at newly finished executive office at the HQ.

BLOG STRATEGY
Making blog work for your business. Like any other web services, you need to spend time and put in some effort. You need to update your blog. People will not come to the web site that is not updated, so as your blog.

The amount of time that you need to spend has the direct relationship to how many people will visit your web site. Nothing will happen over night. But you need to work at it. Just because you will not get any response, do not quit.

SAS 70 Audit Completed

thread
SAS 70 Audit Completed
Web hosting and Internet solutions provider Pacific Software Publishing (www.pspinc.com) has successfully completed a Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70 (SAS 70) Type 1 Audit of its controls and processes, assuring customers their data is secure, based on specific standards.

According to PSP's Wednesday announcement, the successful audit demonstrates the company's commitment to server monitoring and security, and support service practices by an independent auditing firm.
Developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, SAS 70 is the part of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 that concerns data center operations and internal controls. While the Sarbanes-Oxley act was originally intended for the financial services industry (in response to a number of major corporate and accounting scandals such as those affecting Enron, Tyco International, WorldCom, and others), the SAS 70 element of it has become known as a high standard for evaluating outsourced data center solutions.

Founded in 1987 and based in Bellevue, Washington, PSP is currently one of the largest hosting companies for Japanese corporate domains. Its completion of the SAS 70 Type 1 audit provides assurance for customers both in the US and Japanese markets.

"We are proud of our successful completion of the SAS 70 Type 1 Audit," PSP president Ken Uchikura said in a statement. "We are committed to providing quality services to our customers and requested this audit to make sure that the objectives for the controls and processes we developed at PSP, Inc. follows specific standards. We are extremely pleased with our achievement."

No more Firefox

thread
No more Firefox
At PSPINC, we have banned the use of Firefox browser. We now asked everyone in Research and Development and Web Design to use Internet Explorer as their browser. There are people who hate this change. But it was necessary when some of the products that we have developed worked fine on Firefox and not on IE.

Firefox might be more flexible, but we must consider the market size of the browsers. So we have decided to ban the use of Firefox and asked everyone to uninstall it from the computer.

Now everyone is using IE except me.

No, I am not using Firefox. I uninstalled it from my Mac. There is no IE for Mac, so I am now using Safari. It is not too bad. It actually works very much like Firefox. Now, there is no more excuse saying, “It worked on Firefox.”

Gas Price Has Gone Up.

thread
Gas Price Has Gone Up.
I filled up my car yesterday at Shell station near by. This was the first time in a while it cost more than $50. When I left Seattle to Japan for a business two weeks ago, the gas price was less than $3.00 per gallon on premium. Now it has gone over the $3 mark again.

Also I have noticed that the price of diesel is now less than the regular gas. This is how it supposed to be since it require less refining. What was the deal with the diesel price when Mr. Bush was in the office?

Its time spend another $129 ... again

Its time spend another $129 ......
The new version of Macintosh OS X (10.6) Snow Leopard is coming this September. Unlike Microsoft, Apple upgrades their OS every year and have us all pay for it. There is no upgrade price either.

I wish they just make the upgrade available for free or cheaper price to current users.

Broadcasting Company in Tokyo

thread
Broadcasting Company in Tokyo
This is the HQ of Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) in Akasaka, Japan. It is a very large broadcasting company.

We have our data center at Fisher Plaza in Seattle, which is the home for KOMO 4 Seattle TV station. So I am used to the TV stations, but this facility is so large. There are many other buildings around to support TBS.

There are restaurants, hotels, coffee shops, and brand name merchandise shops for regular people like all the TV celebrities and us.

There were party going on near by with people wearing tuxedos and dresses. I don’ t see that very often anywhere.
