One Man`s Trash #11

One Man`s Trash #11

2 years ago I made this bird-house from beach driftwood. I put it in a tree, but no birds came to live in it. I moved it to another tree, but later I checked it & wasps (hornets?) were living in it! I got rid of them, and last autumn I put it in a new place. I hope that this spring some birds will move in.

Otto, is the hole a suitable size for the local birds? I think different kinds of birds are fussy about the size of the hole, and will not live in a birdbox if the hole is too big (or too small).

Yes - I read that birds can be fussy about the hole size, but because I wasn`t really targeting one specific kind of bird, I just kind of guessed the size (though of course I made sure it was too small for crows!).

I might make another one with a smaller hole & see if it`s more successful.

It is good that some birds will live in the bird-house. I hope so. But I think that it is a little deep, isn't it? And there is a watering place, birds will delight it. Do you think that what kind of bird will move in it?
