PSPinc What’s New Newsletter Vol.41 "Post-coronavirus"

thread
PSPinc What’s N...
Vol. 41

The United States and the world are in the midst of the coronavirus epidemic. The number of people infected with the disease is higher than when the virus first became widespread. The number of people not only infected, but also brought into the ICU, is seriously high. The presidential election was held during this current situation. There appears to be irregularities that have come out that are not being reported in the media. The United States is becoming more and more divided.

Even if Biden were to become the president, at least half of the country would not admit it. On the contrary, if Trump remains president, the other half will not. In that sense, the media will have no choice but to continue with its posture that there was no election fraud, but it is certain to backfire on itself as well.

Given this context, the good news is that the distribution of the vaccine has begun. This will reduce the number of people infected with the coronavirus and reduce its impact on the economy. It won't be long before people can leave the United States and go to Japan. I hope that this will happen soon.

What will your business do once the coronavirus pandemic is over? Are you going to do the same thing you did before coronavirus? Are you thinking of something new? My company is a software development company, so the only thing we do is think about and come up with new services. Also, the software we develop is designed to encourage more people to use our data centers and rental servers. Our post-coronavirus project is to think of new services, develop them, and introduce them to you before coronavirus is over.

What do you have in mind for post-coronavirus? By the way, if you need to update your website or develop a cloud database program, please contact us.

PSPinc What’s New Newsletter Vol.40 "Using a VPN"

thread
PSPinc What’s N...
Vol. 40

“Why didn't I do this before?”
Have you ever heard of a system called a VPN?

The Internet is a public system. As it is commonly used, it utilizes this public network to exchange information. With security concerns in mind, important information is transmitted over a dedicated line (private network). However, private networks are expensive.

This is where a VPN (Virtual Private Network) comes in. It is a mechanism to create a virtual private network on the public Internet. This VPN allows computers to communicate securely with each other.

Many companies are increasingly working remote amidst the Coronavirus disaster. They then set up a VPN between home and office to allow employees to work safely. The VPN I purchased this time does not establish a network between computers, but rather an access point to the Internet in a different country. This allows you to access the Internet by the way of the country you are connecting to.

If you are interested in setting up a VPN within your company, or a VPN to use as an overseas access point, please contact me.

PSPinc What’s New Newsletter Vol.39 "CEOs Work"

thread
PSPinc What’s N...
Vol 39

It is the case with any business project, one day it will come to an end. Sometimes you know if it's tomorrow, next month, a year from now, ten years from now, and sometimes it's going to end abruptly. That's why they say that "you can't put all of your eggs in one basket.”

Needless to say, as a business continues, there will be times when it is on an upswing and times when it is on a downswing. When it's on the upswing, how do you keep it going? If the opposite is true, you have to think about slowing down the speed of the fall, and you have to parachute out before you finally crash.

A CEO must always have a clear and calm assessment of what state the business is in. That's the difficult part about being a CEO. If you can't do that, you're not cut out to be a CEO. Anyone can manage a business when things are going well. When things are difficult and not going well, that's when a Manager's ability comes into play.

PSPinc What’s New Newsletter Vol. 38 "Dealing with Covid-19"

thread
PSPinc What’s N...
Vol 38

In the midst of the coronavirus crisis, the number of infected people in the United States is increasing rapidly. Our state of Washington is also experiencing an increase in the number of people infected. It is because of this, Washington state has responded by raising the quarantine level. For 4 weeks, starting at midnight on Monday the 16th, eating and drinking inside restaurants is tentatively banned. Gatherings of more than 5 people, even in the open air, are prohibited. Grocery markets and other places will also have a maximum of 25% capacity. Businesses have also been instructed to keep the attendance limit below 25%.

Needless to say, for many restaurants, the worst of the situation will continue for much longer. The problem is that no specific remedy for this closure has been offered despite the Governor saying it's necessary to keep the coronavirus in check. Needless to say, there will be an outcry from businesses.

Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. would like to help businesses affected by the disastrous coronavirus by offering a “Pay What You Can” pricing structure for some of the services we will be releasing soon. We'll be updating our blog and social media pages with more information on these products as they become available.

PSPinc What’s New Newsletter Vol. 37 "WordPress Hosting"

thread
PSPinc What’s N...
Vol37

Many web pages throughout the world are written using an open source engine called WordPress. It's easy to say that you can create a page with WordPress, but you have to learn a lot in order to create it. When you want to edit a page, you have to use WordPress to do it. It's not easy by any means, but it's much harder to make updates from scratch coding in CSS, HTML, and PHP.

Also, WordPress is open source and free-to-use. There are many books and classes available to help you get started. There are varying statistics, but it is reported that 70% of the world's websites are made with WordPress. Within our hosting environment, there are many WordPress users.

Although WordPress is so popular, it's not without its problems. With it being open source, it's also an easy target for hacking. To enhance security, you should always keep your WordPress version up-to-date. If you update your WordPress version, there is the possibility that plugins that you are using may not work anymore.

This process is quite difficult. We often focus on creating a website and forget to maintain and update it. The truth is that maintenance and updates are extremely important. This is why Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. has developed a new website hosting service that is specifically built for WordPress users, which includes important updates.

PSPinc What’s New Newsletter Vol. 35 "PCI DSS Compliance"

thread
PSPinc What’s N...
Vol. 35

When you receive payment card information online, there are set of rules you must follow to protect the security of the card holder’s information. PCI DSS stands for “Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard” and the rules are very strict.

How does PSPinc comply with PCI DSS?

We at PSPinc, make sure that we do not store any payment card information such as the “Card Number”, “Exp. Date”, or “Security Code”. We ask for those items when customers make a payment but they are either entered one time to pass to the card processing system and destroyed or we let the customer enter that information directly to the card processing company such as a bank, Authorize.net and PayPal.

During the online transaction, we will not store (save) any payment card information on our servers. In addition to that, we have limited number of people who can access the customer information. The information that we store about customers are accessed only on a “need-to-know” basis with secure login from within the company (or VPN environment) only.

This information is not accessible from the Internet. Our datacenter is also PCI DSS compliant. People without proper ID and authorization cannot have any physical access to our datacenter. We take PCI DSS seriously and we do our best to not store payment card information and protect customer information with a very strict, monitored environment.

If you have any questions regarding PCI DSS, please feel free to contact us.

PSP What's New Newsletter Vol. 34 "Password Handling"

thread
PSP What's New Newsletter Vo...
Vol. 34

By the time you read this newsletter, we will have began alpha testing for one of our new products currently in development. The name of this service is Pass Wizard and it is a secure password storage service.

We've been providing website and email hosting services since 1996. Since our initial launch, many websites and emails have been exploited by password leaks. In 2020, this trend shows no signs of stopping. Caused by advancements in technology, passwords are easier to break these days. In this environment, there is a growing movement to make passwords stronger.

The world of password security has changed as such that you have to use upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols in passwords. Whereas in the past you used your own easy-to-remember passwords such as birthdays, pet names, and family member names. However, passwords are now required to be hard to remember. For example, k$4kJ-K(776-><gvG) is a great password, but I don't think many people will be able to memorize something that complex by themselves.

The system we are developing is a password storage system. In addition to requiring valid login credentials to access stored passwords, you can also set up 2-factor authentication so your credentials can only be accessed with a valid mobile device. In short, the system is designed to prevent others from opening the vault, even if your password becomes compromised. There are many other things we did to keep your password data safe. PSP What's New Newsletter Vol. 33 "From a business trip to California"

thread
PSP What's New Newsletter Vo...
Vol. 33

On September 26th I left Bellevue and began my drive to San Diego. The 1,200 mile trip was not an easy one. However, what I felt during the 18-hour drive was the magnitude of America.

The Coronavirus has caused me to spend a lot of time at home and in the office, and I have lost perspective. Once I comprehended the size of the United States, I realized how narrow my thinking was.

Our company is a website creation and hosting company. This pandemic hasn't had a huge impact on our business, and for that we are very happy and grateful. We know that many companies are struggling during this time.

Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. runs a Japanese language community site in San Diego called SanDiegoTown. Here, we are offering discounts on advertising to the restaurants most affected by the pandemic. This is something we have not done before. We'll be doing everything else we can to help those who are struggling during this challenging time. Please give us a shout if we can be of assistance.

PSP What's New Newsletter Vol. 32 "Small Business Branding"

thread
PSP What's New Newsletter Vo...
Vol. 32

It's impossible and meaningless for a small business to do marketing with branding on the same scale as big companies like Coca-Cola, Starbucks, Ray-Ban and Apple. So let's think about what small business branding is all about. Today's challenge is to “Think Small”.

Small business branding is not the design of a logo or the image of an advertisement. Branding is about defining where you stand. The first thing to address is that you need to define what your company stands for. Here's what we call a mission statement or elevator speech to clarify the purpose of your company's existence. The mission statement of Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. is:

“As an independent software design and development company, we use our technology to create software to help companies save and/or make money. From the concept to the final product, we want to be a company that people think of when they need software solutions.”

https://www.pspinc.com/about

This is the first step in branding. The next thing you need to clarify is your target customer. If you think you can sell or are able to sell to anyone, you won't be able to focus your activities. By deciding as clearly as possible who it is for, your message and sales methods will be determined.

Some branding needs to be clearly differentiated from other companies. Not on a detailed level, but try to itemize who your competitors are and what makes you different from them. That way, you'll have a clearer idea of where you excel and where you need to work a little harder. Striving to develop your strengths and reduce your weaknesses as much as possible is also branding.

Finally, don't make your branding just about attracting new customers. Don't forget to make an effort to make sure that your current customers are also happy to hire your company. A lot of these humble tasks will not activate new costs. There's a lot to do in-house, but I believe this is all about branding.
