Learning Japanese-Online

thread
Learning Japanese-Online
Vol. 09

Back in the mid 90’s we were publishing software products enabling non-Japanese Windows PC’s to display and input Japanese characters called KanjiKit and KanjiWORD. It was used by a variety of people outside of Japan. Nowadays, there is no need for you to buy a Japanese version of Windows to display and input Japanese.

As an extension of that service, we started Japanese-Online.com on November 11th, 1996. Yes, this site has been in operation for the last 24 years. It has been revised many times in the past but for the last few years, it had not been updated, and as a result subscriptions went down.

Recently, we started updating, modernizing, and reviving the website. We are now collaborating with a company in Japan to resell Japanese learning video lessons. If you have time please take a look at the site. We also have a blog using Bloguru, another service of PSPinc, to post Japanese related information.

Additionally, we have been broadcasting weekly newsletters. In these newsletters we talk about a wide range of topics including Japanese language, expressions, culture, food, unique items, etc. You can sign up to the JOL newsletter for free by visiting Japanese-Online.com. Please let us know if you have a topic that you would like to see in our newsletters. We would be happy to hear your suggestions!

Simple Data Pool / New Product

thread
Simple Data Pool / New Product
Vol. 08

We are in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and many of us are forced to work remotely from our homes. In this current climate we need to work differently than the way we used to. We are a datacenter and server operation company, so we have plenty of storage space to share files. However, I imagine our customers may be having difficulties managing and sharing files.

We have dedicated a portion of our storage capacity for people to share within their company. This service has been available for years and we are charging $99 for 10GB of storage. We have now increased the capacity by 10 times to 100GB of space for $99. This storage space can be upgraded to 1TB and is the best option available with complete and personalized customer support.

Being such a versatile solution, with account access you can backup and share any type of file. You can use it as an offsite backup, it is all up to you and your company’s needs. For more information, please call us or visit https://www.simpledatapool.com

Please be advised that the system may not be ready as we are currently testing this storage application. If you are interested in becoming a test user, please contact me. I have a limited number of users who can use the system for a free evaluation period.

It’s Time to Think Recovery

thread
It’s Time to Th...
Vol. 07

We are in the middle of the fight with COVID-19 and the news outlets are very depressing. All companies are trying to weather this storm. We are hoping that somehow this pandemic will go away soon just like a Hollywood movie. The reality is, we may be dealing with this for a long time and our lives must adjust to this new normal. What is happening in places like Italy and France is people are getting tired of the “Stay-Home” order and are starting to move around. This will happen in the US as well, we are not as patient as we would like to be.

As business owners and managers, you have to adjust to this new reality soon. Yes, this thing will be over in one way or another. When it is over, companies that prepared for recovery now will have a better chance to excel.

Person-to-person contact is out of the question right now, so you need to update your website. Since you have more time now, learning how to build your website is not a bad option. I am not asking you to go out and buy a book to learn how to create a website. I am asking you to take a look at easy tools to create or update your website. Replacing a few pictures and changing the copyright notice from 2012 to 2020 are good starting points.

You can update your corporate history or product information. Contact information is also important to maintain. You can also check to see if your website is mobile device ready. Nowadays, more people are looking at your website from their cellular phones. Oh, for restaurant owners, did you change your operating hours? Do you provide “Pickup” and “Delivery” services? Do you have special menus? Did you contact businesses near you to let them know you are open?

These are simple changes that you can make to your website. People won’t know you are open if you don’t tell them you are open, they will assume you are closed … that is the new normal. By the way, our company is open for business taking care of your web and email. If you call, we will pick up the phone. Stay healthy and connected virtually.

Do what others do not like to do

thread
Do what others do not like to do
Vol. 6

You can choose to do a job that everybody wants to do or choose one that everybody does not want to do. I am not talking about dream jobs like “Professional Athletes”, “Movie Stars”, “Singers” and so on. I am also excluding any job that requires specialized education like “Doctors”, “Nurses”, “Pilots”, etc. - I am talking about ordinary jobs.

When growing up, you may not have wanted to be a Garbage Collector, Undertaker, Septic Tank Maintenance Technician, or Janitor. However, some people choose or are forced into doing these types of jobs that people usually do not like.

Why?

There is something called the “3Ks” in Japan. (1) きつい Kitsui (2) 汚い Kitanai (3) 危険 Kiken. Which can be translated to (1) Hard, (2) Dirty, and (3) Dangerous. Based on those three factors, people stay away from these types of jobs, but society needs these positions filled. In reality, the jobs that people do not like often pay better and are much more secure than the jobs that people like.

When you look for a job… better yet, when you are looking to start a new business, you should look for what people really need instead of what you want to do. If people need your work, you can make a living. It is the choice I made when I started my company … find the needs and fill them … the hard way.

Company Website

thread
Company Website
Vol. 05

There are many types of websites around the world, but I have been saying that creating a long marketing message is bad. People do not have a long enough attention span to read lengthy text and messaging. The same can be said for websites. If your website is long, no matter how useful the information is, people will not spend the time to read through it.

You need to understand what people are looking for when they visit your website. Here are some general things people look for:

(1) Your location
(2) Your email address, telephone number or contact form
(3) Business hours
(4) Product information
(5) Company history / background
(6) Employment information

You should be careful how you place “Product Information” on your website, this is where it can get out of control. You want to explain what your product does and write a lot about it. This approach will make your website very busy. I recommend you write a summary or introduction on your company website and create a separate website for the product.

This way people who need more information about a product can get it without making your company website huge. There is no rule saying that you must have everything under 1 website. Many Web Consultants tell you that having multiple websites is not good for SEO (search engine optimization). That may be true but do you want a Google Crawler to visit your website, or have people visit and understand it? I think you should organize your website by having a core company website and satellite websites for your key products.

History of PSPinc’s Logo

thread
History of PSPi...
Vol. 4

Today let’s talk about the history of the PSPinc logo. A company logo gives people a first impression of what that company is like. It also tells a vivid story of the company’s philosophy.
PSP logo now

This is the current PSPinc logo. At first glance, the meaning looks a little bit vague, however, you will find the sloped spelling of PSP after taking a closer look. It was designed on purpose to convey the philosophy and history of PSPinc.

PSP logo before

This was the original logo from when PSPinc was first founded, which has a more intuitive design. Back in the late 1990s, PSPinc had been providing services targeting the Japanese market through retailers. It was requested by the retailers that the products be more like their branding, so the logo was changed to the current one and then placed on product packaging. Since that time, PSPinc’s President, Kenichi Uchikura, has held the philosophy that work should always be carried with pride and responsibility, even if it is not seen by other people.

After Mayumi Nakamura took the position of President in 2009, the「」were added to the logo to convey the meaning of “outside-the-box”. With the hope that more original ideas can surpass existing restrictions.

A quick fun fact about the company color of PSPinc. The idea of choosing a brick red color came from the university Kenichi Uchikura had previously attended.

All of that being said, you can learn about PSPinc by how the company logo has changed over the years.

Opinion Stand Text Message Feedback

thread
Opinion Stand Text Message Fe...
Vol.2

We developed the Opinion Stand as a way for business owners to determine what their customers think of their company and to gather contact information for marketing purposes. What sets Opinion Stand apart from traditional paper and online surveys is the ease-of-use and minimum required customer commitment to get true business insight. Meaning your customers will not have to invest a large amount of time to provide data critical to your business growth.

Opinion Stand Papyrus is a versatile application that puts the power of the Opinion Stand into your customer’s hands. You can print flyers, menus, table tents, and receipts with QR codes they can scan with their smartphones. From there they can do all of the Opinion Stand operations in the palm of their hands.

Previously users would need to scan a QR code to gain access to the Opinion Stand on their mobile device. Which is a fantastic and simple feature. Though if you were unfamiliar with QR code technology, it involves educating yourself a bit on it.

Since we are so focused on making this the absolute simplest and quickest way of gathering feedback from your customers, we are always thinking of new features to lean into that mindset.

With that in mind we just released the text message feature!

The vast majority of smartphone owners know how to send text messages, even if you are unfamiliar with QR codes. With Opinion Stand Papyrus you can now define a unique text code for each of your Stands. Simply add the text message code and the phone number to your print collateral and you are set! Customers can now text the code and instantly receive a reply with a link to the Opinion Stand.

Does this type of tool sound useful to your business? If so, please don’ hesitate to contact us. We would love the opportunity to learn more about your business and see if Opinion Stand is the right fit for you.
