With our latest update, emails sent via
NewsMAIL now automatically include a List-Unsubscribe header. This lets recipients
unsubscribe instantly using the “Unsubscribe” button displayed at the top of the email, making the process quick and effortless.
*Note: While we provide the header, the final decision to display the button rests with the email provider (like Google or Apple), so it may not appear in every single inbox.
What is the "List-Unsubscribe" Header?
A List-Unsubscribe header is a hidden piece of code added to your emails that lets recipients opt-out of a mailing list with a single click.
For Gmail and Apple Mail users, this feature adds a clear "Unsubscribe" button right at the top of the email interface. This means subscribers don’t have to hunt through the footer to find an opt-out link; they can manage their preferences instantly.
Just like before, recipients can also unsubscribe using the unsubscribe link in the email footer.
How This Feature Also Benefits Senders
At first glance, making it easier for customers to leave might seem counterintuitive. However, this feature offers significant strategic advantages for your brand:
- Protects Your Sender Reputation: When users can’t find an unsubscribe link, they often hit the "Report Spam" button instead. Fewer spam reports help protect your sender reputation.
- Improves Deliverability: A cleaner reputation means your emails are more likely to land in the Primary inbox rather than the Junk folder.
- Compliance Made Easy: Modern guidelines (like Gmail’s 2024 sender requirements) and laws like the US CAN-SPAM Act now emphasize the importance of one-click unsubscribes. NewsMAIL helps you stay ahead of these regulations automatically.
Zero Setup Required
There’s nothing for you to toggle or configure. Moving forward,
NewsMAIL will automatically include this header in all Themes, HTML, and Text-Based emails.

Important Details to Keep in Mind
To ensure this feature works correctly, please note the following:
- This feature only works when your email client uses a DKIM signing server, and only if the sender address matches the default From address.
- You can confirm your default sender address here:
Compose Email → Select any format → Check the “From” address shown
The address automatically filled in when creating a new email is the default sender address.
Additional points to keep in mind:
- If a recipient reports an email as spam, some email clients may automatically unsubscribe them or prompt them to do so.
- The language of the unsubscribe button depends on the recipient’s email client language settings.
- If the unsubscribe link setting is turned off, NewsMAIL will not add the List-Unsubscribe header.
- The email client ultimately controls the button display
- Display of the button is ultimately controlled by the email client and is not guaranteed in all environments.
What Happens When a Recipient Unsubscribes?
When a recipient unsubscribes using the one-click option:
- The mailing list automatically removes their email address
- Recipients will no longer receive future emails sent to this list
- NewsMAIL doesn't require manual list management with this new feature, making list maintenance more efficient.
