アイヌ語で棘のあるイラクサを「あい」という、これからきた言葉。

背鰭（せびれ）、尻鰭（しりびれ）の棘には毒があるので注意！

白身魚で身質はタンパク質に富み、水っぽくなく美味。

卵巣（たまご）、白子（精巣）は特に美味！
