Pet Bottle Crayfish Trap

thread
Pet Bottle Crayfish Trap
At Kawashima Water Eco Park, I found out how to make a crayfish (zarigani) trap using a plastic pet bottle. I really wanted to see if it would work, so last week I made one & put it in the creek near my house.

As you can see, it worked pretty well!

If you make one, please let me know what you catch. And if your wife tells you it`s a stupid hobby for an adult, please ignore her. She`s probably just envious.

This type of fish is pretty common, but I don`t know the name, & even though I searched on the internet, I couldn`t find it. I caught two & released both.

What did I do with the crayfish? Ah... I was afraid someone would ask me that question... American crayfish are not native to Japan, so by law it is illegal to keep or release them...

Yeh - pretty easy. Why don`t you make it for a craft activity in kids` classes? I`m sure the mums will be so happy.

Is that an upside-down toilet cistern lid that your yabbies (freshwater crayfish) are in? Maybe that is why someone didn't like your hobby.

Did you eat the crayfish before they ate the fish? Remember cousin Stewart? I gave him some little pet yabbies once, which he put in his fish tank. The next time we visited he was angry at me because the yabbies had eaten all his fish!
